They explained that they never knew their mom was a Pear because everyone called her Buttercup, never talked about the Pears or the feud, and her cutie mark wasn't obviously pear-related due to being pear-butter, which looks similar to apple butter.

In other words, they remembered their mom and dad, but never knew much about their past.

My personal favorite and best episode is the best night ever. That's a cliche plot done right, as opposed to Perfect Pear which took a character who has interacted with the Apples since season 1 and suddenly made her very important to their family making all of their strictly business interactions seem out of place. On top of that, you have 2 characters who no one should care about because they are given 0 buildup other than being the Apples dead relatives and you're supposed to care about their generic love story because they are related to a main character when instead something like the end of Apple Family Reunion and CotLM says all you need to about their parents and serves the 'feels' in a proper way.

Their subtle mentions in CotLM and Apple Family Reunion were all the buildup we needed. I enjoy them for their characters, not just because they are related to a main character. The feels come from knowing that it doesn't exactly work out for apple parents on the end and watching apple parents' friends and family's reactions and interactions involving Pear Butter and Bright Mac's story. Also, I wouldn't call it a generic love story by any means just because it has a few relations with Romeo and Juliet.

It's one of the episodes that Greg has down to a tee and fall within his 'new MLP flaws' comments where it was 1/3rd an episode that did nothing and went nowhere, which is something season 7 has avoided till now.

It's completely average, entirely predictable and does nothing but add pointless lore to something noone gave a shit about in the first place.

The episode is basically 'My mom and dad loved each other since childhood' and that's the ENTIRE episode and it was implemented with a jackhammer.

Except it does. They are friends and partners of the family, just like Filthy Rich is. AJ acting like the Cakes were completely normal and unrelated people doesn't fit her world view.

and this episode added nothing other than 'we wuz parents in lovelol'. People didn't want a shitty love plot. They wanted a full on explanation about the parents and where they were. Season 7 has therefore ruined TWO sets of parents with shitty writing by implying Scootaloo is an orphan and that Applemum/dad had a generic love story and not explaining their absence.

The only thing of quality from this episode is the comic about Grandpear getting letters from his daughter and not reading them until she stopped sending them, making for a much better emotional hook. But DHX wouldn't dare put something like that in the show because it's too restrictive on how a future episode plot might go.

Expect an episode in season 8 where AJ's parents come back and everyone going 'I thought they were GONE' with AJ going 'Aw shucks y'all. They were just on a 8 year honeymoon'.

You can't just through in the word "generic" because you don't like something. Also, there absent because they're dead. I prefer it like that, so that way people focus on their lives and not there deaths, which is the opposite of actual feels bait like in the beginning of Up or Musafa's death. People only care about those characters because they died. It was the same way with the apple parents before this episode.

It's generic because it's boring and outplayed hence why Romeo and Juliett was considered a fucking marvel of writing when it was just the same but they killed them at the end.

Neither matters. Originally Cadence was meant to be a unicorn but Hasbro demanded her to be an Alicorn for no reason other than toys. If they want the Apple parents in another episode to maximise merchandise and footprint, and if this episode stands out from the crowd in viewership then they will, then Hasbro gets what they want and the show suffers.

The Apple parents being dead was always and still is an assumption. Is it better that they are dead? Yes. It leaves a story to be told and a character moment for the Apples to have. But it doesn't mean that this episode was anything good because it aped the CMC episode that did the same formula but had a boring love story rather than explain how the characters are linked together.
