Person who posted that. Just letting you know that before you put too much into it, iirc Shakespear was one of the many artists who got famous after death and his works were not considered good at the time.
Main reason I mention this is that he made up new words (bed room stems from bed chamber, which wasn’t a phrase at the time)and fucked with grammar like changing subject-verb-object order around. Basically Yoda talk.
So, yes it was used at the time, but it probably had the same status of proper english as bed chamber or “Hamlet, thou hast thy father much offended” instead of “Thou hast offended thy father”. Trchnically it existed so it was “used”, but grammatically incorrect.
English is an evolving language, like all languages. So you have to look at facts on a word’s status. It is used, but still disputed and is only now coming into popular modern use. The Oxford Dictionary still has a footnote about it being still considered ungrammatical, and coming into use by people who identify as gender neutral. This trend of escaping binary genders is very recent.
Claiming that someone is uneducated for following standard English and not using something new that isn’t 100% accepted yet is silly. Let’s just draw some ponies instead, guys.
