Well I've been here since early 2013. My least favorite year was 2014 by far. Even I was spending less and less time on it. My favorite is this year.

I know the doomsayers and others will constantly talk about how great the early years were for here, but they weren't as good as they're cracked up to be. So far this year it's been comfy. I like it.

Voting third party is irrational. The US uses a system called single member district plurality. That means that in any congressional or senate race, the candidate with the most votes wins. Not the candidate with a majority, the candidate with the most votes. So say in a highly competitive district a decent chunk, say 25% of Republican and 15% of Democratic voters suddenly decide to vote libertarian. Well that's all well and good, and the Libertarians will now get a lot of votes. But the district will now go blue, not gold. By that argument, voting for either of the main parties is just as irrational, as nothing changes there either. It just reinforces my argument; voting main is just as big of a waste as voting third party. Only, in addition to voting for the status quo, you're also selling your principles in exchange for popularity, so you're a hypocrite for doing so. The only reason to vote main is if you actually like the status quo, meaning you support cromy capitalists leeching off of the individual and stifling competition. For those of us that don't, voting main is worse than voting third party, specifically because you're voting not according to what you actually want your government to do, but instead giving up on your beliefs. That's like converting to Catholicism when you're a Hindu at heart, simply because it's more popular, rather, rather than having a genuine belief in God.

That is how we ended up choosing between two bowls of shit with only a slight difference in smell. The U.S. system is intrinsically flawed in that it forces people to sell out if their principles don't conform to a mainstream opinion. This contradicts the premise of representative democracy.

You can't even say that the only winning move is not to play, because you lose no matter what. No wonder voter turnouts are so low. Either way, my point stands. Voting main if you don't actually like main is just as big of a waste than voting Third party. Therefore, you cannot say that a third party vote is a waste compared to voting main.
