I'm still baffled and it's been years. If in S1,Twilight would spend an entire episode trying to vehemently prove Pinkie Pie wrong and gloat about it(Feeling Pinkie Keen), then in S5 she'd get discouraged by a spoiled villain without any nobility and honesty in her, who was openly out for simple revenge and nothing more.(Glimmer)
If someone else who isn't a "bratty, spoiled, sociopathic executive who thinks he's not an arrogant self-entitled prick for modifying every script" would have taken the reins of the show, Jason Rote for example, then the confrontation with Twilight and Starlight Glimmer would have ended up just like Nightmare Moon or something even more righteous and severe.

The hero would get serious and beat the living crap out of the villain and then deliver a speech about why being a hero is the responsible/right thing to do in contrast with why villains are despicable and should never win or be trusted. Like every cliche, trope, stereotype every written starting with Superman or any caped heroes. (Except for Batman, he somehow manages to berate his enemies and never give out morally correct speeches like the usual hero does, that's because Batman is an anti-hero)

The S1 characters are incredibly different from the S2+ characters in terms of intelligence, dialogue and cognitive level. Sadly intelligence and common sense was Twilight's main trait, which got removed in favor of stupidity. It can hardly be called flanderizing because she was never stupid to begin with.

Instead Rainbow Dash/Buttercup/Blooregard/Peter Pan/Ben Ten/(every asshole hero) was a case of flanderization when they would get too reckless, selfish, rough, antagonistic and would stop being charming or compelling to watch and impossible ignore their arrogant personalities.
