symbol drawing, symbol drawing everywhere

copy something
copy it upside down
copy it upside down, obscuring parts you're not actively working on as to keep it abstract
ignore your brain's whines to let it interpret the shapes into symbols

try it and we'll see about that
>>
>>30080290
I don't think I understand, why is the symbol drawing obvious? How would I even draw without interpreting shapes? I don't get it

Everything's fine but Scoot's face. Her eyes are a little bit too close to the top right corner of her face, to the point where they protrude from her head. Basically, make the eyes smaller and move them to the left a bit. The line on the left of her neck should start where her shoulder ends. This should make both the neck and the head a bit thinner.

Also, is there anything wrong in my drawing? I'm pretty new to this. It took me ~6hours

So you need something for making vectors? Inkscape, It's designed to make vector graphics, also it's free but this doesn't even matter.

Shit I've stepped on mine a few times but it's pretty hardy and is fine. I'm sorry your dad fucked you. You can get cheaper tablets in the $50-$100 range though (yes that's "Cheaper") depending on the size of your monitor. I just use the smallest Intuous (5x3"?) but I also only have a 17" monitor because laptop.

I hope you can get back to digital soon, but while you wait, why not try more mediums? Watercolor/watercolor pencils aren't very forgiving but are fun to do. Charcoal is very forgiving and is probably my favorite traditional media and cheaper than watercolor/wawa pencils

- be aware of the curves of the neck, they can make it look tubby
- outline of back skull going over the neck line into the head's silhouette is not correct, makes the head look like a separate piece on a neck-shaped pillar
- nostrils backwards
- the farther nostril usually isn't drawn for 3/4ths views--you can draw it in if you want to, but know that this will make the end of the muzzle look squarer and flatter
- ear fluff originates from the edges of the ears, not the ear cavity--see photo refs for better ear fluff
- give forelock more volume to avoid the impression of flat rigid mane on top of a flattened skull
- forelock volume also affects the height of the horn intersection
- hair ties and bands work by squeezing a bunch of hair tighter at a point--as such the band should be the narrowest part in the hair detail, and the untied hair mass above and below should be wider to show the bunching up
- show style ears would be about one half wider and wouldn't have the inner edge drawn in, and becaus you have the show-accurate giant eyes here I recommend making the ears a bit larger to match the style
- remember to other eye lashes

Overall not even that bad tho.

Listen. You're not going to improve if just keep doing the same thing over and over again, because then that's the only thing you'll know how to do. You'll master one pose for one character and while, sure, it does look nice, you won't learn to do ANYTHING ELSE.
>>
>>30092147
I'm not sure what you mean by that, seeing as I've been changing the pose every day for the last week.
>>
>>30092174
Dude all you do is flip poses or change one thing, like an arm in a different place. Do something front the front or draw a pony flying. Be creative, fuck.
>>
>>30079498
Middle is definitely the best.
>>
>>30092174
Get radical, bruv. Draw different ponies and critters. Go outside and draw a tree.
>>
>>30092199
Just in the past couple weeks I've drawn her lying on her back, bucking, climbing stairs, and propped up against a wall. How is that not pose variety?
>>
>>30092235
Because it's all the same. It's just a pony in profile doing things. Like, it looks like you're just using a pony generator for poses right now and you can't improve if you don't try to do harder things, trust us bruh
>>
>>30092174
>>30092235
Okay, you're legitimately retarded. We've been saying the same shit ever since you first showed up here and you're just now starting to get it. If we need to hold your hand all the fucking time and tell you the same thing over and over again then you should just stop wasting your time and get the fuck out right now.
>>
>>30092247
>>30092496
If you wanted a different angle, you should've just fucking said that. Don't tell me to do different poses and get angry when I do that. Jesus Christ.
>>
>>30092653
>I can't think for myself
Jesus Christ, dude. It's not that difficult a concept. Draw some shit, then draw some other shit while learning why the first shit was shit and how to un-shit the second shit.
>>
>>30092653
Wow
Okay, I'm kind of retarded and bad at drawing, but even I thought to draw different angles when trying to improve.
>>
>>30092653
You don't listen to anyone, if you're improving it's at such a slow pace that we just can't honestly see it. It's not that we don't want to help you based on your skill level, it's that we don't want to deal with your shitty attitude and you not applying yourself to like dozens and dozens of critique. Don't blame us that you can't improve if you can't take critique.

I say this all the time, but I don't care what a person's skill level is as long as they actually want to put in the effort and learn and you don't appear to be in that position right now.
>>
>>30093128
This right here. Especially the 'effort > pre-existing skill' part. It's about applying yourself and genuinely working to improve. Not just expecting to get good at it within a few doodles. Art is a lifetime honed skill, and it takes hard work to progress.

bump?

So a question for the experienced guys:

Drawing something seems like a lot of planning.
You got an anatomical body on a picture plane at certain degrees and a light source and things that reflect light differently and you got gesture and maybe something like a story or message that picture can convey and composition and all that other stuff you need to think about.

How often do you draw something without thinking about all this stuff?
How long do you take for this stuff to plan out?
How do you plan?
>>
>>30097027
You must practice something conciously before it gets internalized.

Depending on the complexity of the work times will be different.
>>
>>30097027
>How often do you draw something without thinking about all this stuff?
90% of the time
>How long do you take for this stuff to plan out?
5 or 10 minutes
>How do you plan?
I draw a lot of sketches until I get something I like, but even planning doesn't mean it's what I'm going to stick with for the final piece
>>
>>30097027
idea first, then thumbnailing

all the thumbnailing

then sketch, then underdrawing

Someone commented on one of my pics that they felt the fact the only the ponies had outlines was a bit inconsistent. Now, I like using the black outlines, but I kinda agree about it being inconsistent. Is this a problem, and if so, how should I go about fixing it? Would maybe making things that are being interacted with outlined like in traditional animation work?
>>
>>30097667
>underdrawing
?
>>
>>30097726
the first thing you need to do... is work on that goddamn anatomy. starlight looks like a tumor
>>
>>30097749
Can you be more specific? I'm a bit retarded, you see.
>>
>>30097749
That's not because of his skills tho
:^)
>>
>>30097760
But yeah, your shimsham seems fine
but the head of starlight seems a bit weird, her muzzle is too low and the bridge not shallow enough, also her eyes aren't placed correctly.
Eyes should be a tad higher. And maybe they're a bit too big.

And about the outlines I'm not going to say shit, it's more of a stylizing question, do whatever you like IMO. I personally don't mind it if it's for cute pictures like that.
Maybe try to color them, just like in the show. That way you can keep them and still don't make them pop out as much.
>>
>>30094054
I like the simplicity of it. It's not so basic as the left and the right looks over detailed. The middle does everything it needs to to show lighting, give atmosphere, and add a little flare to the character.
>>

>>
>>30098284
First, bad references aren't an excuse. The hair you drew for Sunset looks really bad. I know her hair is tough, I've drawn it myself, but sometimes you just need to think how something works from a 3D world to a 2D one. Also you should pay more attention to AJ's face; it should be more like how you drew Glimmer's just a little pushed out. It shouldn't be that hard since your Glimmer looks fine

You know how ponies manes from a different side look different (I think they don't usually do this because their hair blocks their faces?) I was trying to do that.
I had made an estimation based off Rarity's mane before, but I dropped it in favor of the one based on the JEM comic. Does it look better, or is it still bad?

>>
>>30098918
You can, but you can also try to just shift it slightly so it isn't blocking the face. Alternately, you can just change the angle of the head so it's more of a 3/4 view than a profile view. Again, I'm going to draw on the stage comparison; you want the face to be as visible as possible when a character is being focused on, so if you need to "cheat" it a bit, do so.

This is internalized for me, I don't think about it as much. I just do.

>gesture and maybe something like a story or message that picture can convey
That's my main focus when I start something. I'll think of story and lore a lot.

If it's a really complicated scene and it's for a commission sometimes I'll use 3-D block-ins to make things move along a little faster though.

Is drawing from imagination the hardest thing about drawing? if you ignore depression and self loathing
>>
>>30102609
Well it depends how you take it. My ponies are shit because I always do them from imagination. When something comes to my mind I try to make it and if I can't figure out something I try to find refs. That is why my anatomy is often fucked. I know it but don't know exactly how it works from certain angles. And foreshortening is a nightmare...

Kind of a meta question, what's the best way to drawfag outside of Draw Thread?
Should I announce "Hey I drew this" every time I post my art and risk being called an attention whore, or should I not, and risk anons not realizing it's an original content and be ignored and feel like you wasted your time drawing that shit?
Is it normal that I feel ecstasy when I get (You)s on my art and completely miserable when I get none?

It's absolutely normal.

hey that's not half bad
see your brain CAN work when you make efficiency hard enough

getting rid of the "what I think I see" and entering the "what I actually see" needs work

our brains are built to recognise and stereotype patterns in the ceaseless data flood of our senses, it's how we've survived, so you gotta get clever and really analyse and concentrate on the pure geometry of shapes and proportions and angles and relative positions of whatever you're looking at

the upside down drawing exercise helps, since the brain isn't great at recognising patterns in unfamiliar views especially when it's wonky like that Picasso there

in a way, the pattern recognising part in your brain shrugs and says "idk wtf that thing is but it doesn't look dangerous, whatever" so your analytical part gets some goddamn peace and quiet

I googled a bit about symbolic drawing but most results turned out to be worthless so I downloaded "edwards-drawing-on-the-right-side-of-the-brain". Maybe it will help.

>getting rid of the "what I think I see" and entering the "what I actually see" needs work

Maybe I need to change perspective more often or something to avoid getting stuck in what I believe to be right at the moment I draw it or I need to change my state of mind when I draw.

The thing is when I draw stuff I draw it they way I believe it is right. Why would I draw it the way I think it is wrong? Guess I just can't spot my own mistakes because I am kind of stuck in my own way of perception when I draw. I just can't help it.

>>30110008
This is like an example of something that seems to be a fundamental problem.

Some of the stuff I posted gets literally picked apart then I try something different and it is not as shit.
So one thing means I am complete garbage and the other one I am doing acceptable.
Like I am trapped between two extremes, 1 and 0 if you want.

I think bad of myself when it comes to drawing and secretly hope that the perception others have of my stuff is better. When it matches my perception of my skills it feels like stab with a knife tbqh.

Some picts got strong negative responses while others weren't mentioned which gives me hope that not all were so fucked up.

This inconsistency of mine drives me crazy.
I know I make mistakes but I just can't spot them and I can't fix them. It is driving me crazy. Send help

No matter how hard I try and how much I learn about it, it won't just get through that thick head of mine.

And trying to find patterns and geometrical form of things that only exist in my imagination is an obstackle I find myself unable to pass in many situations.

How did you guys get to your level? I don't want to be shit anymore.

That's your problem right there. Or rather, your biggest problem right now. You draw what you believe is right because you think you know, but you don't. You need to work to get out of that mindset.

>You draw what you believe is right because you think you know, but you don't.

Not that anon but the biggest hurdle to gettin gud is letting go of what you think is correct and realize that you know next to nothing about art and it's many facets. Accept and embrace your ignorance and a lot of self-doubt goes away. The sooner you get out of this unconscious incompetent mindset the quicker you set yourself on a path to competency. Being consciously incompetent is a huge phase in art so you better get used to it.

This is a slow process and requires you to become a totally different person over the course of a few years. You have to become someone who can get good at drawing. The artist you are right now IS NOT the same artist you're going to be five years from now if you just keep at it.

It seems hard, yeah, but that’s actually a pretty small hurdle. The big one is learning to trust your very own intuition as a human being again after many months or even years of ignoring that voice in your head because you deemed it the biggest traitor to base skill level on. True fast gains seem to come after the first year of git gud when you learn to love yourself again, embrace your tastes instead of running away from them to try and do poor copies of what the “new you” think the baseline of “good” should be, and learn that your intuition and inner critique is not your enemy but your greatest and only real friend that knows the real you. ;_;

>You have to become someone who can get good at drawing.
This. Remember to forgive yourself when the time is right, Anons.
>>
>>30110597
step out of your comfort zone, be ready to fail spectacularly (it won't hurt you and is useful for your growth so drop the shame), try new things

most of all, remember that you're drawing characters with thoughts and reactions and emotions, not designs that look a specific way and that's it

even if it's just Twilight standing there without background, come up with the circumstances: is she posing for a picture, is she inspecting something, is she waiting in line for her newest geekgasm book?
>>
I've read all of this even watched entire video and FUCK. How the fuck do I do all of this if this doesn't give me fun but makes what I like a responsibility? Isn't a hobby (i don't want to do something with drawing in my life) something we like to do to forget other life aspects? I don't want to draw breathtaking landscapes or photorealistic faces. I just want to make some fun art of things I like.
I really admire people who can do all of this madness.
>>
>>30112663
If you just want to do it for fun then keep doing it for fun m8, nothing's wrong with that.
But this thread is for tryhards and wannabes.
You can still post here tho, but some are really harsh and expect of you to improve, and want to improve.
And you should, even if just for fun. Getting better is a big part of drawing.

It's up to you to find the right balance between having to force yourself to do the basics, and having fun drawing shit using what you learned.
>>
>>30112663
I too wonder about it a lot but I only see it as something to push through on the way to what I want to draw. Learning things is only fun when you're actually learning it, but when you're just starting it it's fucking terrifying and I hate it. I've been catching myself on the thought that I'd rather stay in my comfort zone than risk making more mistakes on top of those I already make. Don't get caught up in this turmoil, it can cost you weeks of progress.

P much this. If you find yourself not having fun then take a step back and draw the shit you like to do and don't even critique it. Just let it come out. You'd be surprised on how many happy accidents you'll have when you're just letting it flow.

Reference actual horses and the show, not sheep.
>>
>>30116945
I didn't really use sheep as a reference but okay. Are there other improvements I could make? I kinda feel personally that the nose isn't much of an issue. I didn't really think others felt so strongly about it.

Drawing the full body will help. I'm going to be honest, but it really does not look good and is actively restricting you getting better. Look at >>30116925 to see how to draw a muzzle.

That's more of a stylistic choice, but it really does look like sheep, not horses/ponies

Thank you :) Your perspective is a bit weird and the muzzles are weird too. like the little pony's smile goes up and touches her eye? They both have sheep noses again. I can understand you personally might like it, but it's confusing to us and sometimes you just need to give up stylistic choices in favor of something more accurate or better looking. You can also just tell me to fuck off and do what you want and that's fine too

Don't use humans for pony poses. Go ahead and draw them and gesture, but I think for pony poses you should use cats or dogs, they make the best models because they're closer to how ponies are built way more than humans. Here's an example of one of mine doing just that

I feel the same thing.

You just kinda gotta force it, really. Force yourself to sit down and draw anything, even if it's a sphere.
Also, I dunno why but sometimes seeing other people talk about art just kinda pressures me into drawing. Like my brain just subconsciously thinks "these terrible artists are drawing, why aren't you?"

As for not knowing what to draw, I think it's kind of helpful to have a broad and simple goal in mind. Something like "draw a forests," "draw a vehicle," whatever. It might help to just look around your room and draw whatever you've got in there, too. Multiple times I've just attempted to draw a can or bottle that happened to be there.

I know that feel. But all you can do is draw through it. Unless it's really bad and like, you used to enjoy art before but now you don't. I think a lot of people quit right before they're about to hit a breakthrough.

Study and practice anatomy, and practice construction a bit. The most glaring issues seem to be related to that.

Also, you seem to be making the mistake of not thinking about the rest of the body while making a portrait, which might've led to the wings to looking so awkwardly placed and oddly sized.

- random curves at bottoms of fringe looks like she got the trim from a baby sister--bottom line of fringe should form a continuous shape, whether it's a curve or some fanciful shape
- overly curved side section of fringe makes the ear look like it's a separate item floating next to the head
- eyelids and eye whites are curved surfaces, shade accordingly
- tops on collars should not project straight at this angle, makes neck look thin like paper
- wide breast yoke on garment makes chest look very broad
- braid structure needs work, tutorials are easy to find so check one out
- the wing is oversized and the primaries are too long in relation
>>
>>30129312
This looks far better than >>30128932 . I know you want to do your style, and that's fine, I just think that original chin made absolutely no sense anatomically. I'd still round out the bottom muzzle as it makes her look more masculine but it's your decision
>>

not the artist but i headcanon that she cuts her own hair; her bangs are uneven in the show too

that's a mare? i red(or gray)lined it under the assumption it was a stallion, so yeah definitely make the muzzle rounder
>>
>>30130375

Yes, you did. Did you copy the frontmost legs and use them for the back? Don't do that. They don't look correctly connected to the body, and the shading doesn't help. The colors are fairly bland for pixel art, and the shading doesn't seem to reflect the kind of material you're going for (I assume it's metal and glass?)

I guess that's kind of my "style" though I don't like that term because it implies that its a given for a person's art. I kinda like/prefer that stubby look but I'd rather it not look broken if it is. What do you think?

>shading isn't great
I really struggle with shading in all honesty. I guess I've just done it wrong so many times that I've been accustomed to the repetitive, bad shading?

>>30141604
Could be. I learned a very basic way of how light hits angles and things. Mostly what types of shadows go where, but never really did a full-on study because I felt kind of intimidated on where to start in all honesty.

Alrighty. about the shading, I absolutely agree that my shading really needs to change. I'll look into improving that. But regarding the muzzles, I really like that stubby look it has, but I don't want it to seem like "Oh I'm too good for advice". What wold you recommend I do about the muzzle?

Really appreciate that dude. Regarding the shading, I see what you mean about the shading being a little bit more "aggressive" in lack of better words. I'll definitely experiment more with that in the future. I noticed in myself that I go very light and opaque to hide possible errors.

In regards to the muzzle, I'll look into and play around with it. I'm partial towards it current form, but there could be an even better one that I can find with some experimenting. Hopefully its just not detrimental if I decide to keep it.
>>
>>30149834
You're welcome. I really really advise you to change the muzzle though because right now you can't tell it's even a muzzle. It just looks like a weird facial tumor. I just think you should trust me on this. You don't have to, of course, these are just my feelings

I think I see what you mean about the horn. The tip should be sharper, right? As far as I can tell filly horns all kind of have a bit of a cigar shape to them, but I'll try to do the tip sharper next time.

Pretty much what >>30154004 and >>30153932 said, plus the eyes are a bit off model. The eye shape should be more circular since you're drawing a filly. The iris is too small (unless you're going for a surprised look), and there's no pupil. Reference pic related to see what I mean.

Other than those things, it's a decent attempt in my opinion. Really love the mane.

Hey Redline, so I asked some people about (granted they may be biased in favor of) my old muzzle-style to which they mostly said they liked it and a few said they were indifferent.

I figured what I could do is maybe come up with maybe 4 or so variations off of what I already have, and maybe we could discuss what changes are optimal if we end up choosing a different type.

All I've really seen from you (as an outsider, given) is that you draw everything as a side angle, the pose change only really consists of a mouth open or a hoof raised, the angle change only really consists of going from the front for one or two pictures. Regardless of what the others think, I genuinely don't believe that you're experimenting to your full potential of improving. Both your concept of angle changes and pose changes show that you are afraid to experiment. I'm guilty of this too, but I won't waste the others' time here

I don't expect you to draw a ridiculous pose or angle or anything near impossible, but your repetitive, pointless art being posted in the [[[improvement thread]]] is beyond pointless.

The bottom left reminds me of some of NCMares stuff (in only one of those lines, not all of them), and he has a pretty good hang of his anatomy. Not sure about it though, seems kinda stubby. Regarding that line that marks the top of the nose/muzzle, I just wanna find the right angle to apply it. Not exactly sure that line would be visible from that angle.

Unless there's a feature you feel that you absolutely need, stick to what you are used to.
For example, I've been using Photoshop for a little while. Wanted to use Krita since there's a few features that sounded neat, but in the end it was more of a hassle to learn the new software than to just use what I already knew how to use.
IF I finally jump into animation, I'll definitely have to learn switch software though, but for now it's not needed.

Ok, take a look at what you drew here.

Your front legs are significantly longer than your back legs. Think about what it would look like if this dude tried to stand up. It doesn't work. So either make the front legs shorter or the back legs longer or do both.

You kind of cut off his head at the shoulders and then cut the neck off the head and spliced the head right onto his neck. Why?

Sure, maybe your neck was a small touch too long before, but you still need a neck. Don't draw no-necked ponies, it makes people pity their existence. Do you want your pony to be a tank destroyer?

Look at this doggo? Is this what you want to draw?

Also, either you're putting an extra joint in the rear right leg or you're putting it in a different place than the joint on the rear left leg. That's also bad.

Well, about the legs, I didn't think much about them and just adjusted them to the length of the lines from the corrected drawing, but yeah I see what you mean. I'll take that into account. I still find it a little hard to imagine how they bend while keeping them at the right size.

And about the neck, yes, it's kind of not there now that you mention it. I hadn't really done this pose before so I was a little lost about what to do with the head.
I'm thinking I should either learn to draw horses or learn to draw pones but not try to turn one into the other, at least yet, since I need to have some practice on drawing from imagination for that.

I don't get what you mean about the joints though (sorry). Can you explain it visually?

Something like that, but from a complete side view, 90 degrees angle. When I try to translate it from that angle it usually just looks off, I'm confused by the bone structure and that strange joint they have on their hindlegs. Where does it go when they sit down like that?

Pretty good advice.
This isn't important, but I keep seeing people being inaccurate about it, so here's a fun fact:
>Catchlights should be symmetrical
Technically the catchlights in >>30156420 and in your "bad" example /are/ symmetrical (more technically, they're a reflection). The good way to draw them is a different type of symmetry (a translation).

Well, I explained it bad I think. It's not so much that you have an extra joint so much as you're missing a joint on your rear left leg.

That or you do have two joints there and the subject is just holding them straight. That would be fine, but if that's the case you've shortened them here, which is bad.

If you look at the two rear legs the right rear leg seems to be longer than the left rear leg.

Also
>I'm thinking I should either learn to draw horses or learn to draw pones but not try to turn one into the other, at least yet, since I need to have some practice on drawing from imagination for that.
No, you can totally turn horses into poners. You just need to be very careful with your anatomy.

>>30164046
I know that feel mang, unfortunately for me my pencil doesn't have a stabilizer.

of course it looks off, it's supposed to be animated, it's supposed to be a secondary feature in a short scene where your focus is somewhere else

making stuff look good for longer than a second and within viewer focus is a whole other bag of cats
>>
>>30164316
a horse's cannon is one solid bone it has no joints in the middle

thus the left leg isn't missing a joint the right leg is broken

painfully
>>
>>30164321
Not sure if it changes anything but it's only one frame. There aren't any others with it.
>>
>>30164316
>>30164330
Okay, thanks. Guess I need to practice more anatomy then.

You're right, the cannon bone is a singular bone. However, there also the joint between the long pastern and the short pastern that you may be forgetting about.

The cannon doesn't connect directly to the hoof.
>>
>>30164359
Er, more specifically the joint between the cannon and the long pastern. Same point in general though.
>>
>>30164296
That's probably partially because in reality you will never see most objects from a purely profile perspective; in reality there's usually going to be a slight offset if even only by a degree or two. In addition, looking at something solely from one side makes it harder to convey depth, as it looks like it could just as easily be portrayed on a 2D plane. More importantly regarding doing it for characters specifically, is the fact that the face is important for conveying emotion and by viewing it strictly in profile means that you are cutting off the view of it by 50%. This is the reason that stage actors are constantly taught to always angle themselves slightly towards the audience, even if in the context of a scene it would make more sense to be turned directly towards the other actors.
>>
>>30164321
>>30164370
Oh, alright thanks for fast responses. I've been drawing pure 2d so far but I guess turning it slightly will make transitioning to angled povs easier, if that makes any sense. I'll figure out what looks the best with the hind legs.

No, he's hated because he's stubborn and refuses to listen to criticism. If you keep an open mind about improving and listening to advice it shouldn't take you long to surpass him.
>>
>>30164359
>>30164363
I get you mang, but the pastern joint is already accounted for in both of his hindlegs
>>
>>30164597

>tfw I drew all these bones I didn't know existed
That explains things.

If there really was a pastern bone there, would it be able to bend like that?
Also how do I draw hooves instead of "hooves".
>>
>>30164737
>If there really was a pastern bone there, would it be able to bend like that?
Not 100% sure, I'm kind of hoping someone would correct me if I'm wrong here. If anything the pastern should probably be shorter and integrated into the bending action of the hoof.

That might be what they're talking about >>30164597 so I'm just waiting for them to say I'm right or call me a retard and tell me why.

>Also how do I draw hooves instead of "hooves".
That's just me being too lazy to say Coffin Bone a la >>30164359 The hooves themselves are fine.
>>
>>30164776
Oh, okay.

>tfw can't draw pone
>>
>>30165131
Just draw, anon. It all stems from the same general lack of experience and knowledge, so if you keep at it you'll eventually make it.
The only thing stopping you is saying you can't do it.

I imagine literally everyone in this thread has or has had trouble with lines not doing what you want them to do.

I'd argue that every human being has that problem. It's really just about applying oneself and learning how to fix that issue.

>>30165201
Doing "zentangle" things helps. By the way, bump limit. Can we use a less confusing header next time? I thought that this was just some AiE thread at a glance.
>>
>>30164651
Ponies are simplified in many ways. One of the things is treating everything below the pastern joint as a single unit

observe the difference between the range of pastern joint movements on hoers and ponk in >related @

>>30165277
heartily agreed, at the very least the header should have a clearly visible text/acronym à la drawthread

New thread:
>>30165330
>>
>>30165285
So that being said, there's absolutley nothing wrong with drawing more horse-like ponies so long as you're consistent with your anatomy regarding a given subject.

>>30164737
So yea, feel free to include a detailed pastern in your anatomy, though make sure that you apply it consistently if you do. I.E. don't give one leg one without giving it to the other leg.

As for >>30164651 I say you would do well to add one to the left hid leg and then shorten them both by about half. As it is, they're a bit too long. Either that or remove it entirely. Again, the main thing is consistency.

Also, lengthen the cannon a tad and shorten the tibia a bit. The proportions are a bit borked there and they should be closer to the same length as the canon. Maybe just slightly longer. Not 100% sure there, so try it out and see how if it looks better.

If you do all that, make sure he has a neck, and make sure that the front legs and rear legs are proportional in total the rear legs should be just slightly longer than the front legs starting from the hip joint and shoulder joint respectively then you should be much better off.
