No, believe it or not, there existed a time when /mlp/ wasn't 90 percent generals, and it wasn't just because "HURR LE FANDOM IS DED". It was because mods shape this place by what they allow and don't allow, and it's been shaped into a well, shitty shape.

If generals weren't allowed, people who are interested in posting here would be forced to create creative threads at the very least, and before you say "WELL, TONS OF PEOPLE WOULD LEAVE CAUSE THEY WANT THEIR GENERAL"

There's literally no reason to have generals on /mlp/.

/co/ has them because they stop 30 threads of 'HAI GUZ DUD Y SEE SPOODERMAN 220' or marvel movie threads flooding it like some subreddits. It is a combined interest board with dozens of different media companies and focuses. They still ban most generals on sight if they aren't specifically talking about something like the death of an artist.

/mlp/ doesn't need them because it's not a hub board. It is already it's own general by the function of it's birth and thus you don't need generals. It's literally fragmenting a board that was a fragmentation of a board.

At this point they may as well just delete /mlp/ and just have an /mlp/ general on /co/ instead. It would increase /co/ board traffic and lessen resources needed for a seperate board via moderators.

If you want a PERFECT example of how bad it fucks up a board then look at /tg/ but with Quest threads.

When quests were a monthly occurrence and lasted a single day then they were acceptable. There were 6 a month at most and normally ran on a friday night. They'd dominate top spot on the board without killing the other threads en mass and vanish the next day for another week - month.

After a while people just made their own shitty quest threads all over /tg/ and ran them constantly. There were often 10 quest threads at once that would run for the entire week and the 10 or so posters in each one would dominate the entire board. This forced normal /tg/ers to leave and go to other boards/sites to get their fix.

Modgods then realised /tg/ was actually losing traffic due to this and forced /qst/ as a thing to try and save what was once one of the more active boards outside of the containment boards. The issue however was that the damage had been done. All the content creators had moved to other sites and dragged their fans with them.

/mlp/ has the EXACT same problem. It's a low posting board for such an avid fanbase and the problem is that the fetishists and faggots have resulted in generals maintaining the top 10 place due to how 4chan works. This means that people who normally just browse the front page are actually losing interest and going elsewhere which results in the board losing it's more inventive and creative users.

Now /mlp/ is maintained entirely by the numerous generals while the other fags all go to other sites that aren't entirely toxic.

It's why a certain april fools day joke has resulted in the more creative users to dive elsewhere and make their edits there.

Started watching the show in late 2011. Sort of lost my interest in the show during the s4-s5 hiatus. At first I told myself that I won't watch new episodes from streams and that I would just wait for a download link to show up somewhere. A month passed and I hadn't downloaded any of the episodes. After that I pretty much just stopped thinking about watching the show and here we are. Today I come here only for the dank memes.

For me it was the half point of S6.

I genuinely felt the first half of S5 was one of the show's strongest moments but after the episode you posted it started to fall apart, episodes ranged from mediocre to just plain boring and while I enjoyed the season finale the way Glim Glam got reformed left a bad taste on my mouth.

Still, I decided to give the show a chance and watched the firs half of season 6. There were two episodes I liked (Gauntlet and Saddle Row) but the rest felt just... Boring. The synopses of episode 14 and 15 didn't feel like any better so I eventually dropped off and haven't looked back.

Nowadays I just come to bitch about how TFH hasn't been released yet and check if there is anything interesting on the horizon for the show. But nothing has managed to bring me back into the show.

I stopped watching and coming here just before the end of season 3, then i heard they made twilight an alicorn and thought it was retarded so didn't come back until now.
I've just started catching up on the episodes.

I have to ask. Where did the show start to go wrong? Pic related, a shitting crop from our ratings of the seasons at the end of each season, suggests that it was Season 3 where the show started to plummet although at the time I remember that being blamed on Equestria Girls taking up resources from the show so maybe Season 3 is not to blame but if not Season 3, then what? By the looks of things, most of us lost hope in Season 6, although that being said I doubt (m)any people would still be around if they dropped the show during an earlier season, however the fan ratings from >>30000863 seem to point to Season 5 being good and hardly anyone here blamed Season 5.

All in all, I'd say that most former fans (e.g. people who at least watched Season 1) dropped the show for one of the two following reasons:
1) S3, including those who hated the finale.
2) S6 sucking.

The quality of the show plummeted during season 6 but that finale was the final nail in the coffin for me.

I stopped watching in season 5 too, though not because I hated the show and thought it was "ruined forever" like some drama queens, I just had other stuff going on and didn't make time for new episodes. And I wasn't really enjoying it that much either I guess, but more in a "there's so many other things I could be spending my time on" sort of way, I kept finding excuses not to watch the latest episodes and then before I knew it season 5 was over and season 6 was starting and I was still only like 5 eps into season 5.

I'm trying to catch back up though. Almost done with season 5 now and I'm going into season 6. There's actually some really good episodes in season 5 that I legitimately enjoyed. Glad I didn't give up on ponies completely, considering how long I've been in this franchise it'd be a terrible waste.

Season 3 culled most of the dissatisfied fans. If they hadn't dropped the show after Twilicorn then season 4 likely would've been rated even lower, but because they'd stopped watching the balance shifted back to people who were more okay with the way things were going. I was among those who were willing to give Twilicorn a chance. I've been watching this show since the very beginning and while I wasn't exactly happy about what they did to Twilight's character, I had faith that they weren't going to completely ruin her and had some idea of where they were going. Years later, I can't really say I'm impressed with how they handled Princess Twilight, I still prefer her as a unicorn and think she was more interesting that way, but I don't hate her the way other people do. I think I definitely did fall out of love with the show in season 4, and since then I've had a more casual relationship with the show and the fandom.

Season 4 still got some quality episodes like DBZ fight and it still had an adventure arc about keys. There was no bad status quo change beside library and castle. And even then, people were hoping that it was the beggining of a season where Twilight would start her own kingdom with guards,diplomacy, politics and shit. No one expected it owuld be just a useless change from library to a castle.

That makes sense, if there's nothing bad enough to make you drop the show then I doubt you'd drop it. Any bad episodes would be written off as the writers simply dropping the ball. With Glimmer in mind then, it's no wonder that S6 was the last straw for many people.

I wonder, does this mean that we should be optimistic about S7? A devil's advocate could write it off as a season with one big bad decision and a few bad episodes or even say "S3 was the same, if not worse, and we recovered from that. Why can't we hope for the same again?".

I stopped when season 3 was shit, didn't pony for years, got back on the ride about 6 months ago and caught up. Honestly don't see the issue with the new episodes. I'm pretty easy to please as long as there's no singing.

After all the shit with Glimmer and the lack of creativity in the newer seasons, Season 4 is for me, the final season. It ended on such a good high note, after such a big battle, and left me satisfied. The upcoming movie doesn't even acknowledge seasons 5 to 7.

Maybe because S3 lost so much fans and lowered the expectation bar for the remaining fans? I think fans were prepared for S4 to suck and turned out it was just "good" just like the current situation of the show with S6 and S7.

Never. I honestly fail to see half the shit people bitch about.

I liked every season except season 1, and it seems like most of the people that don't like season 6 only don't like it because of Glimmer, which I find... Both hilarious and depressing at the same time.

I'm watching, and I'll keep watching until it becomes objectively shit, or until I stop enjoying it.

Also to clarify, I do not give even half a flying fuck if you don't like Starlight Glimmer. I only give a fuck if you label her as the objective downfall of the show. The only thing I personally see wrong with her character is that her reformation was too quick. But hey, it was better than Shimmer's. :^)

I personally didnt like Cadence and Shining Armor - if only because they felt too important to have come out of the left field without some buildup or foreshadowing. Even Maud appeared in a picture before actually appearing iirc.

Seriously, you would think a 3rd alicorn living in Canterlot, especially one who has ties to Twilight on a personal level would be a pretty big deal, and her Brother being mentioned at least once in passing before would have happened.

It was also the first situation where Celestia started her Worf trend and we were all made to wonder how Luna would help a crisis, only to have her be completely unaware of it happening (or be otherwise irrelevant all the way till S6's).

Chrysalis and the changelings were a cool concept at the very least. I personally didnt care for the songs.

Its a damn shame of what became of the changelings though.
