This sounds incredible.

Doesn't have to be "no knowledge of it" afterward; they could remember it, but consider it entirely normal and natural. They'd rationalize it somehow, the way we rationalize even arbitrary decisions with supporting reasons even if they're not the actual reasons we made the decision. (See "Universal Acceptance" for examples.)

Spike wouldn't realize it at first either. He writes various things, including fanfic, and finds out later in casual conversation that he wrote exactly what took place. At that point, he realizes something magical is going on. He's not sure about the timing, so he isn't certain which is cause and which is effect; he might be somehow inspired to write about what had happened without knowing it.

So he writes more, and makes it something that he can easily find out about or catch in the act; perhaps a conversation leading to a kiss. It happens exactly as he describes, after he writes it. The ponies remember it, and it nudges their future actions in a consistent way, without changing anything fundamental about them. They stay in-character as much as possible, within the constraints of his writing. (He finds, for instance, that he gets better results when he describes dialogue instead of writing it out, unless he really wants an exact set of words said.)

He can't quite bring himself to outright control Rarity; that feels too much like mind control. But he talks himself into at least writing a chance for himself. So he writes out the perfect scenario to ask her for a date, and writes that her true feelings don't change but that she's inspired to give him a chance to impress her.

Then he uses the stationery to set up the perfect date, without controlling Rarity's side of things. He arranges an idyllic day, where serendipity is entirely on his side. He carefully avoids writing anything that would dictate Rarity's reactions, except that she carefully considers the day and their entire history together.

/grave/ focuses on the "dead" aspect of it, and doesn't even say what's dead. /niche/ suggests "still alive, just low activity". Pointing people at /niche/ is more self-explanatory than pointing them at /grave/.

This gives a whole new angle to the story.

A succubus drops her notebook to Equestria, because she's bored and wants to see what'll happen. Spike picks it up; she's a little disappointed at first because he's so young and might even think to use it how she intended. But he surprises her with his fantasies and idle shipping.

She ends up revealing herself after he's figured out how it works. They banter, including jokes about the name of the note. She gets frustrated with his unwillingness to directly control ponies too much, but she's impressed with his creativity with indirect influence. And ever so often he's tempted enough to write a more direct scenario, as long as it's with ponies who seem like they're going in that direction anyway. (Not that he always gets that right.)

Like the Death Note, it will control the scenario to a reasonable degree, as long as the writing doesn't demand the impossible. But just as someone always has to die in a Death Note scenario, someone always has to get off from what's written in this notebook. If an orgasm isn't specifically detailed, then the first creature named in the notebook will orgasm after the scenario has played out.

At first, he could know enough to describe things narratively ("and then they went to the bedroom together, and didn't come out until the next morning"). His lack of knowledge doesn't stop the note and the ponies involved from filling in the details, and each other.

For the most part, it transmits and receives sensation, and biological matter from the linked being, not actual objects. (Passing notes through it wouldn't work, nor would it transmit sound, unless Twilight learned to vibrate magically vibrate her skin like a speaker. She could draw letters in fur-patterns, though.) If destroyed outright, nothing would happen. And the version Anon obtained has some rudimentary wards to disconnect rather than transmit sustained pain (of the sort typically associated with major or fatal injury) above a certain threshold. It's a high threshold, though; for scale, think "more pain than the level of pleasure in an orgasm". It doesn't distinguish types of sensation, and it wouldn't do to disconnect on sudden high pleasure.

However, it comes with a long list of disclaimers and cautions, which the researchers gave a summary of to Anon in person. In short: minor injuries are still entirely possible, and major injuries, while disconnecting before doing harm, will still cause pain. And if you got clever enough about causing injury without the associated signal of pain, you could potentially do harm; that's part of why it isn't in production yet. You could also most certainly cause bruising, or internal tearing.

And temperature is transmitted through, as well. Anon let the corn cool off enough before getting creative with it; if he hadn't, the resulting burns would not have been pleasant, though they probably wouldn't lead to permanent harm. Probably. More subtly, if Anon had played with cold, and gone overboard, he could give Twilight hypothermia; cold has a numbing effect. Putting the simulacra in the freezer, for instance, would lead to serious harm, without hitting the threshold for disconnection.

Kinda happened as a natural result of writing the story. I thought about what would happen if Anon wasn't careful, and immediately figured that's part of why these fancy new toys aren't available yet: they're still working on and polishing that protection.

I also thought about Anon having to be careful at a few points, because he couldn't get any verbal feedback and didn't want to hurt Twilight. Some thought about the implications of that led to the conclusion that on a relative scale, the protection wards would require much more complexity than the duplication/transmission itself, and couldn't be foolproof (or malice-proof).

It had to be possible to physically manipulate the parts remotely, not just cause sensation, because otherwise things like stretching, winking, tail movements, or Anon watching Twilight walk, sit down, or hoof herself off couldn't have happened. And if it's possible to manipulate the parts remotely, it'd normally be possible to cause injury or pain.

Plus, I wanted to depict a thoughtful, methodical, and curious Anon that was a good match for Twilight. And what self-respecting Twilight-loving Anon wouldn't think about (and ask about) all the implications when first presented with something like this?

He probably made at least a couple of suggestions that turned the researchers pale, because they hadn't thought of them and suddenly had a vivid idea of what would happen. The freezer thing was one of the milder and less immediately fatal scenarios. Attempting to poison someone wouldn't work, because the transmission doesn't include matter other than biological matter from the linked pony, but displacing their own matter in arbitrary ways does work. Injecting a pile of air under their skin or in a vein, for instance. Anon's comments are partly why they owed him enough to let him have one. And they want lots of feedback back. He (and later Twilight) are going to have a fun time giving them feedback. They've been studiously trying not to think too hard about the sex-toy implications of what they've created, but Anon isn't going to keep things abstract, and Twilight isn't going to omit any details that could advance scientific understanding.
