Started with Guardians of Harmony, slowly spreading to every part of the franchise in 2017: all the new toylines, chapter books, comics, etc.

It wouldn't surprise me if the season 7 intro has the new logo.

Chances of it not bombing like JEM movie ic very low.

Especially since:

1. Theres no Discord in it, one of the fandom most favourite character (second best favourite character after Luna in most polls)

2. Brony hype is much weaker than years ago. If it was released instead EQG 1 it would have more views.

3. First Equestria Girls pretty much damaged all reputation this series could earned. Most critics seen this shitty Monster High clone so now they will expect some Care Bear shit out of the pony version. No one will see this and wiuthout critics, there will be no reviews in the media promoting the movie.

4. Meghan McCarthy might have fucked up with her writing if any of the leaked script plot elemetns are still in the finale version (Alicorn city and evil male Alicorn plotline)

5. Alicorn Princess Twilight and Crystal Castle may already discourage the oldfags that would have go to see the movie before S3 ended.

1. People care more about The Main 6 than discord. I don't see his absence of the film as such a harsh deterrent. He is not "bigger" than the girls
2. No doubt the hype surrounding the show is not like it actually was. But when you consider the views that youtube videos still get to this day. There is reason to believe that it will perform decent.
3. No doubt EQG has soured many views towards it but I don't think you can get an accurate barometer for it's impact based on people outside the target dem. You and I may not like it but there is an audience for it.Unfortunately
4. Considering those leaks occurred with Sony and since then there have been changes to it along with veteran writers from other movies being brought aboard to help along.
5. I don't think "oldfags" turned off by those two developments are enough to make a significant impact.

MLP has established itself as a fixture of pop culture in the 21st century. Jem having been in stasis for over 30 years didn't and that is one of the primary reasons it failed in the box office. Factor in the creative marketing that pony has gotten over the years there is reason to be optimistic over this film. McCarthy has had issues with her extended length features and two parters. Yet she has written great episodes in the past and has show improvement over the course of her 44 min + writings.

I am weary of how the movie will perform but I have more confidence than fear.

Well I'm not as jaded as you. I haven't watched the rest of season 6 yet due to being busy in college. I'm certainly have enjoyed most of my time being a fan of this show.

Having read most of the reviews left here I really don't think we have to worry about the issues the JEM movie had

well someone already wrote them an email saying to make it like the shitty smurf movie and hasbro basically told them no, thats stupid. since its the main show creators working on the movie i think its going to be fantastic.

im a bit disappointed we wont get anything show changing in it since the rule of the status quo means a series cant be affected by any movies, but maybe well at least get some deeper lore.

This is actually a good opportunity to discuss something I've wanted to make a thread about for a while.

Why did the PPG movie fail, and how the upcoming movie can avoid the same pitfalls.

It seems the biggest issue with PPG's was the show's popularity had all but disappeared. That's not something MLP needs to worry about, despite what the pessimists on this board like to claim. The show may not have the popularity it once had, but it's nowhere near the level the PPG cartoon was at that point.

This. I remember when the movie was out, and only finding out by seeing the poster of it on the wall of the theatre. They barely advertised it at all, and as well the movie did come out very late in the shows' run, it felt irrelevant by then, I remember thinking 'ppg movie? Now? Why?' But lack of any mere teaser of a teaser trailer for pone movie worries me a bit. They need to get their shit together already and start getting the word out

I've actually seen /co/ mods leave up obvious threads/posts that break GR 15 when the threads don't specifically relate to mlp or the posts pertain to thread topic. Any leniancy they may have goes out the window when you blatently shitpost like that. In part it had to do with poor advertising. Another thing to take in account was it was seen as a girls/girly show that ten year old boys wouldn't want others knowing they like outside thier home. At the same time the PPG movie had a lot of violence in it that mothers wouldn't want young children to watch. So the PPG movie found itself not being watched by people who don't go to theaters to watch cartoons, insecure boys and boys who don't care for the ppg's, families with young children, and everyone who didn't get the memo from CN that this movie was coming out. Just to give you an idea how hard this movie bombed CN wouldn't release another movie in theaters until 2015. Funny enough the movie did make some profits but no where near what CN was hopeing for.

There's a reason Disney hasn't made a single 2D movie outside of Princess and the Frog ever since 3D got good enough to carry a movie on its own, just like Dreamworks has.
This is despite the fact that Disney were the alpha and omega when it came to traditional animation with all the money, talent and autism it takes to push out stuff that makes any other 2D animation look like a middle-schooler's project.

Sure it was. I used to work in a Target and I have literally seen children run to the MLP aisle and open up our freshly stocked EqG Minis without their parents paying for them (they eventually did of course)
