Sunset's book was another one that answered a couple of questions
1. how she communicated with Celestia when they were student and teacher
2. that even back when she was a bitch, she was hoping for Celestia to write her to come back or something like that

she even said she wasn't sure if the book would even work, either by the message actually getting through the closed portal, or if anyone would read it if it did get through

it also served us a way to get the plot back to ponyville to get Twilight to go back to EqG because the portal was CLOSED at the end of the first movie and would have remained closed for 30 moons (which we STILL don't know exactly how long that is)

My problem is not with the enemies, it's with her friends. She shouldn't need powers in order for her friends to communicate their feelings to her. Rarity doesn't have magic powers allowing her to give food to the homeless just because she's the element of generosity. Most of their actual magic powers are just giant laser beams from what I've seen. Their elements are more like defining character traits than powers.

no, even I agree that they fucked her over this movie, she was all about dresses and runways

as far as I have seen, their "bling" is kind of an EoH, but also serve as a power source/boost for their secondary powers they got in the movie
and those powers correlate with their pony counterparts
Fluttershy: communication of land animals
Applejack: super strength
Rainbow Dash: super speed
Pinkie Pie: ... explosions are random?
Rarity: able to create something beautiful from "nothing"
Scilight Sparkle: Alicorn powers and wings (which I really hate that they did)
Sunset: nothing to compare it to, but she IS the element of Empathy
in the EqG universe, Empathy is needed there more than in the ponyverse
