VII is done I believe, I recycled the old thread prompt to make this one. In my autistic haste of creating a thread on a shitTier iPhone, I missed that Thing had posted VIII shortly after the thread was revived a couple weeks ago. So technically this thread is named incorrectly(Memory Lane), it should be namedwhatever ThingFag dictates it be upon his triumphant return

>You haven’t felt this out of your depth since your first year in Equestria.
>God, that feels like a lifetime ago.
>Almost twenty-six years…
>You’ve spent the majority of your life here.
>And what have you done with that time?
>Sure there’s the wars, and if you wanted to you could probably have conquered the known world, but what is there beyond that?
>There are your friends.
>Lancer
>Offense
>Brairheart
>Wave
>All of them are like brothers to you.
>Together you make one big semi-dysfunctional family.
>But the only thing that you personally have is Flurry.
>Isn’t that something?
>The reasons why you fight are varied.
>But she’s the only reason why you survived.
>With her father missing, her mother reclusive, and her aunt missing as well, the last thing Flurry needed was to hear some report about how soldiers pulled your bloody corpse out of a pile of rubble.
>And she’s still keeping you alive now.
>But now it’s different.
>Now you’ll soon be directly fighting for her personal survival.
>Your own survival comes second to that, but you can and will not die until you know that she’s safe.
>If you have to die to keep her safe, then so be it.
>Until that moment comes, nothing can or will stop you.
>Not even God himself.
>And definitely not a bit of fog.

>”I know that look.”
>You glance back at Tiara, still sitting opposite you.
“What look?”
>”The look that says you have nothing to lose. That you’ve made your peace and will welcome death.”
“Setting aside natural deaths, in the past millennia I have killed more than every other individual and plague combined.”
>”Orders don’t count.”
“In the first real war I was involved in, I personally killed over fifty thousand yaks.”
>”Wait, how?”
“Caused an avalanche over their encampment.”
>”That doesn’t count either.”
“Well over my career I’ve killed over a thousand with my bare hands alone. And you know my sword? Over a hundred thousand with that. Hell, I’ve effectively genocided the changelings.”
>”I don’t think you really care about those numbers.”
“Then what do you think I care about?”
>”The recollection of casualties is just a way you justify your mentality.”
“You didn’t answer the question.”
>”You’re bored. You have nothing better to do, so you just keep on going. But on some level you know that, and that’s where the brooding pseudo-guilt comes from.”
“I do not brood.”
>”If one says ‘I do not brood’ it usually means that they do.”
“Well spare me the armchair philosophy.”
>”And now you deflect the topic of the conversation.”
“What is it that you even want?”
>”Why do you even fight?”
“I fight so that all the fighting I’ve already done hasn’t been for nothing!”
>”Well that struck a nerve.”
“And who are you to question my motives? The ENTIRE known world invaded Equestria, and you just sat in a fort and watched!”
>>
More tomorrow
>>28697700
>”No need to raise your voice.”
“How many died because you let the navy sit on their asses?”
>”After downsizes, the Saddle Arabians severely outnumbered our fleet.”
“You didn’t even TRY!”
>”And let hundreds of my men go needlessly to their deaths?”
“So that thousands of civilians might live. Do you know how many died in Baltimare? Hmm? If even one enemy supply convoy could have been disrupted, their army would have slowed down, and in that time how many civilians could have gotten away from the frontlines? How many children lost their parents because of your inaction, and how many parents lost their children for the same damn reason? But no, you sat in your comfy position and let the storm pass.”
>”So you never sat anything out?”
“When outnumbered ten to one, I fought the yaks in the streets of Manechester. When I was separated and alone, I fought my way through a changeling hive against thousands of drones. When shipwrecked, I forced myself through the desert because that was my job. When the Saddle Arabians and zebras brought the single largest army from the latest war to finally break Baltimare, even though I was still recovering from a coma caused by my deathbed, I personally led the charge against the most advanced weapons they have developed to this day.”
>She changes topics, maybe to keep you on your toes, maybe because she knows she won’t win from this angle.
>”You overthrew the government. You deposed Celestia herself.”
“Even if you don’t believe that she’s under the sway of an outsider, take a look at what she did. Secret police, mass arrests, work camps; she had become a tyrant. Was that Equestria the same one that you loved as you grew up?”
>”No, but I didn’t start a civil war to change that.”
“And I didn’t blow up a third of Canterlot because I lost a battle.”
>There is a pause in the argument as tension builds to what you feel will be the climax.

>You step off of the train car.
>Last stop: The Crystal Empire.
>You inhale the cool evening air.
>Must be around midnight, based on how dark it is.
>You stop there a moment to take in the city’s skyline.
>The way it shines in under the moon and stars is quite beautiful.
>But what’s all the commotion about?
>You can hear ponies shouting in the distance, and you can see them running through the streets.
>And all of them are running in the same direction.
>You glance up at the skyline once again, and see an illumination that is different than the normal light pollution from a city.
>Instead of a pale white, the sky has an ambient orange in it.
>What in the name of-
>It’s a fire!
>You start moving your wings, in order to get an aerial view.
>As you start to get higher, you see the city stretch out below you.
>It’s not just one…
>You count five separate blazes, each engulfing multiple city blocks.
>There are a couple pegasi in the air, all trying to use the clouds to douse the fires.
>But there are so few that it’s like trying to use a garden hose to put out a single house on fire.
>Wait…
>You look at one of the fires that’s further out from your position.
>That’s about where Winter lives!
>Just as you were about to go full speed towards her house, you stop.
>On account of the world-shaking boom.
>The sound leaves you shell-shocked, and it takes all you’ve got to stay in the air.
>Everything is blurry, but you can see the source of the explosion.
>It came from the Spire.
>And it’s falling!
>>
More tomorrow
>>28720121
>The entire damn thing is collapsing down onto its foundation.
>Stunned from the sight and still shell-shocked, you lose stability in the air as an immense dust cloud starts to engulf the city.
>The dust blinds you, and you soon feel yourself falling.
>A jolt of pain shoots through your back as you hit the ground spine-first.
>Forcing your eyes open, you can barely see a few feet in front of yourself, and the dust is getting into your lungs, making breathing an issue.
>What’s going on?
>Why- how is this even happening?
>”Last stop.”
>What?
>-
>”Come on Sir, this is the last stop.”
>You open your eyes.
>You’re sitting on a bench inside of the train while leaning against the window.
“What?”
>The conductor is standing in the isle next to your seat, and a quick glance shows nopony else in the train car.
>”Last stop: The Crystal Empire.”
“Right. Sorry.”
>”Not a problem, after all-“
>He pauses to take a look at his watch.
>”After all, it’s five till midnight. There’s usually a sleeper or two on these late night rides.”
>You start to stand from your seat.
“Thanks for the wakeup call.”
>”Don’t mention it, just part of the job. You have a good night now.”
>You nod at the elderly pony before taking your leave of the train.

Implying Horseland was ever peaceful

According to the canon that is FiM, the pones have never had true peace. Every few months(in season time) some new fuckboi villain from the past shows up hell bent on trying to conquer the place for a second round. The pone in this story arc just got lucky a human death machine showed up at their doorstep one day thanks to the help of Discord's shenangans

>As you step off of the real train, you take in the real skyline of the real Crystal Empire in the real night.
>For real.
>You chuckle at the thought.
>Everything seems to be in order.
>No rush of ponies, no fires, and the Spire is standing tall like always.
>Still though, a quick check wouldn’t hurt.
>You begin walking through the quiet streets, every once and a while you pass another pony or two on the road.
>But for the most part it’s nice and empty.
>As you make your way to the Spire, you start planning for tomorrow.
>You should sleep at one of the spare bunks at the soldier’s barracks there.
>That way you can shop in the morning and properly surprise Winter.
>Also because you don’t want to spook her, and seeing as it is past midnight…
>But what to get her?
>Alcohol is out of the question due to her pregnancy.
>Flowers?
>No, too stereotypical.
>Flowers are the ‘I had no idea what to get you’ gift.
>The park is also out of the question.
>You’ve gone there with her a lot, and you want this visit to be special.
>Arriving at the tower, you focus away from your thoughts.
>A pair of soldiers are posted outside the main entrance.
>”Sir!”
>They both salute.
“At ease… notice anything out of the ordinary?”
>”Been quiet since the Field Marshal left for the south.”
>He means when you had issues with the MID.
>That feels like a lifetime ago.
>It seems so surreal.
>With a single word, you could have remained in the Crystal Empire to command the garrison here.
>But instead, you decided to go headlong into danger.
>And you’re about to be going headlong into MORE danger…
“Well of you don’t mind, I’m gonna take a quick look around. Got a weird vibe.”
>”Understood.”
>…
>Long story short, your mind was put to ease.
>Everything looked to be in proper order, and you ended up slinking into an unoccupied bed.
>Hopefully you don’t have any dreams.
>>
Back tomorrow. After the next in-story day, thing in each PoV should start kicking off, so once they do, I'll have a much easier time getting stuff out. The big issue I've been having was having enough time pass to let the next set of plot developments take off.

>You step out onto the main deck, wearing fresh clothes.
>Another day alone with Tiara.
>You had already eaten this morning, and she should have as well.
>So it’s straight to work.
>Looking over, you see her standing at the wheel.
>”That was some night, huh?”
“Let it go, we’ve got more important things to focus on.”
>”Alright, be that way. If you look ten degrees to port, you’ll see a set of sails just on the horizon.”
>You glance over towards the ship.
>And just as she said, you can see the distant object at the edge of view.
“At least now we know it’s waiting for us.”
>Aside from the occasional order, you both started working in silence.
>She mostly kept on the poop deck, and you stayed down on the main deck.
>So, you were left to your thoughts.
>And one thing stands out in particular.
>Where’s Discord?
>It’s been over a full day since he popped in to give his opinion on things.
>And you’ve gotten two nights of sleep without him invading your dreams.
>The sudden radio silence is not comforting.
>Although it probably should be.
>Maybe he finally just gave up and is letting you do your job in peace.
>Or… he could be the one making the ship appear on the horizon.
>You doubt that it’s actually him, because it’s too normal.
>If Discord is helping, it isn’t in such an obvious way.
>But whoever (or whatever) is in charge of the ship on the horizon, is leading you somewhere.
>But where?
>It’s been a straight heading, for the most part.
>And if it’s been leading you somewhere for a reason, then what is that reason?
>And more importantly: why has the Fog stopped?

>Currently you’re in the art museum, waiting for Winter to get back from the bathroom.
>This is one of the rooms in the museum that has more modern paintings in it.
>All of them are about the wars of the past two decades.
>You aren’t a connoisseur, but it doesn’t take a trained eye to note the stylistic changes.
>Most works from before the wars were brightly colored and stylized.
>But in this room, all of the paintings look like real ponies.
>Some of them almost look like photographs.
>The paintings in here, and in similar rooms, all focus on armored ponies or battlefields.
>One of the plaques on the wall mentioned how the modern style is called ‘Realistic Romanticism’ but many just refer to it as ‘Modern Romanticism’.
>You’re currently looking at a painting that depicts griffons manning the walls of their capital back during the Griffon War.
>They tried to annex the cities just south of their border.
>By the time the armies had gotten out that far to the northwest, the griffons had already taken over all of the territory they set out to.
>There weren’t many troops in the area because relations were good at the time.
>A few years before the Griffon War, Equestria had come to their aid when the yaks attacked them.
>The yaks had figured that Equestria was too strong to attack, so they turned to their only other neighbor.
>But when the yaks attacked the griffons, their queen came straight to Canterlot and begged for assistance.
>>
>>28747540
>You forget the queen’s name, something with a G.
>But when she came to the capitol, Celestia ended up forming a bit of a friendship with her.
>Thus the alliance was born.
>A few years later, the griffon queen died when a minor plague hit Griffonstone.
>If you recall correctly, she was infected while trying to help the sick.
>But when she died, the designated regent just happened to ‘trip’ while going down some stairs.
>He was found dead, with eight different stab wounds.
>The replacement regent then took power and quickly mobilized the undefended northwest.
>Vanhoover and Las Pegasus were overrun within the month.
>And then they started digging in.
>They fought a defensive war through heavy forests, cities, and mountains.
>Until they were driven back to their capitol.
>This painting shows an army of the old, sick, or young.
>All of them visible afraid and physically unfit for combat.
>In reality, the griffons had plenty of adult men fighting; the war didn’t hurt their manpower that much.
>Their ability to fly makes it so more casualties are able to flee the field rather than being captured.
>It’s similar with pegasi.
>If you can’t fly off the field, you can walk off it.
>If you can’t walk off the field, you can fly off it.
>It’s only when both of them go that you’re done for.
>Also armies that have to stay on the ground disperse when broken.
>But armies in the air can use their mobility to organize retreats much more effectively.
>”Boo!”
>You feel a hoof poking into your side.
>Faking a lurch, you appear to look surprised that Winter is back.
>You know her hoofsteps, and they’re kind of loud given that the room is otherwise silent…
“You okay?”
>”Thought I was going to throw up, pregnancy sickness.”
“Sorry.”
>”It’s just a side effect.”
>She sits down next to you.
>”And besides, it’s worth it.”
>She kisses you on the cheek.
>>
>>28747550
>”What are you looking at?”
>You point over to a different painting.
>It’s also one of the Griffonstone walls, but in this one the defenders proudly stand strong, and are alongside ponies.
>It’s from the when the yaks attacked the griffons, and you thought it was interesting how that when you were allied, the griffons were depicted as tall and strong, but when they were enemies they are shown as old and weak.
“My dad died in that battle.”
>”I’m so sorry. I know he died on duty, but I didn’t know where.”
“It was a long time ago. Besides, you grew up in a military family; you know what it’s like. Growing up knowing that dad might not come back when he leaves for work.”
>”It’s just that you specifically talked about how your mom died a couple years ago from a heart attack, but you were never specific about your dad, so I assumed you didn’t want to go into detail.”
“Oh, no. It’s fine; it was a long time ago. I guess the specifics just slipped my mind when I brought it up before.”
>”Hey Thunder?”
“Yeah.”
>“When you have to go off to fight, you come home safe and sound. Our daughter is not growing up without a father.”
“I promise.”
>”I wasn’t asking for a promise. That was an order.”
“Yes Ma’am.”
>You reach over and kiss her cheek.
“Besides, Discord himself couldn’t keep me from coming home in one piece.”
>After you said it, you realized the irony in it.
>Seeing as Discord is out of the picture.
>”I love you.”
>That seems unprovoked.
>You lean in and kiss Winter.
>This time on the lips.
>After ten seconds or so, you pull your lips away, keeping you head in the same position next to hers.
“I love you too.”
>>
With this post, the story has reached two hundred thousand words,
>>28747563
>…
>More hours have passed.
>After the art museum, you stopped to get dinner with Winter.
>Now, you were walking back home in the late afternoon.
“So I probably won’t be needed tomorrow.”
>”Probably?”
“Most likely.”
>”Thunder. You can’t just force the entire army to push back their schedule just because you want to spend another day with me.”
“Trying to get rid of me so soon?”
>”You’re a Major. You started this year as a Sergeant.”
“My dad never made it past Corporal. If he could see me now…”
>”He’d probably tell you to do your job.”
“I come back after weeks, and this is what I get.”
>”Thunder.”
>She says in a firm voice.
>”I know what I got into when I agreed to marry you. I know that there will be times that you’ll be away for quite a while, and then there will be times of peace when we can be together day to day. Both your career and the safety of the Equestira rely on you and every other soldier actually showing up for work.”
“I suppose if I get the eight thirty train, I could be back in Canterlot before sunrise.”
>”I’m not angry at you or anything, but if the generals want you personally to do something…”
“Yeah, you’re right.”
>”Also it would be good for us. For our kids.”
“Kids. Plural?”
>”I want three or four total. Maybe five. Why? Is that a problem?”
“No, not at all… I guess I’d like a few kids. A big family to make up for me being an only child.”
>”Great, then I think in a couple of years we should look at getting a bigger house. My place could barely hold two kids.”
“Them maybe a summer house in the south by a lake somewhere.”
>”Sounds nice.”
“Yeah… it does.”

Do you even remember everything you've written from the beginning?
>>
>"Saeda Commander, they were, ehhhh just getting started."
>The servant opens the flap leading you into a room with several Zebras and Arabians arguing.
>Seeing the difference between the two species firsthand was shocking.
>While the Arabians adorned themselves with polished armor and modern weaponry.
>The Zebras on the other hoof bare war paint and had their weapons made from wood and stone.
>What's wasn't shocking was seeing how the two interacted with each other.
>It was as if taking a time spell back to when Equestria first colonized the Zebra plains of the far South.
>"The Oracle says if we attack, defeat will follow like the wrath of an angry Yak!"
>"And our Agents say their line will break with just another push! Our Air Fleet is just days away, with their support we can finally claim this city!"
>"Beware! Beware! Doom and death is what she declares!"
>"You stripped cowards always making excuses!"
>The arguing continues and you just stand there awkwardly.
"Um...hello."
>The room goes dead silent as everypony turns to look at you.
>Things were already tense as it was, and them seeing an Equestrian probably wasn't helping.
"I am Flash Sentry. Former Commander of the Crystal Imperial Guard. I was told I will lead your armies to crush my nation’s rebellion."
>...
>The treeline perfectly covered your presence.
>As long as no loud noises are made you should be-
*Crack*
>You automatically freeze.
>Nothing.
>Inching forward you take a step.
>Another stick breaks under your hooves.
>"You hear that?"
>"What?"
>"Sounds like a stick broke."
>"So?"
>"Shouldn't we investigate?"
>"Why?"
>"What if it's a spy? Or and assassin!"
>"For the last time NOTHING IS OUT THERE! Stop waking me up! We stop whatever comes INTO the camp not OUTSIDE the camp."
>This isn't one of those spy picture shows.
>Guards won't take time to search for whatever breaks a stick in a forest.
>It's a forest, sticks break.
>Carefully you inch your way closer to the city.

>The past week has been…an experience to say the least.
>Instead of valiantly leading the next wave to Baltimare, the head Arabian Generals wanted you to oversee the training and techniques of the troops.
>Surprisingly all of the Arabian Generals accepted you eagerly.
>Almost all…
>Roxelana is still very adamant to your presence as well do some of the Zebras chieftains.
>Through the resentment and passive aggressive whispered insults thrown your way Selim always denounced their statements.
>He even went as far as to lecture the importance of having respect to a higher ranking officer to one of the Zebra chieftains in front of the other Mushirs.
>You’re glad to have such a loyal scribe yet that’s also a good way to wake up with a knife in your flank.
“Our foes are sun baked and mad from basking in Celestia’s sun. Do not let them bite you! Have courage! Your grandfoals shall smile when you tell them tales of how you have brought peace to both our wonderful nations!”
>You are currently standing on an improvised stage giving a speech before sending out another force.
>Selim is standing beside you speaking his foreign tongue with such a fervor that even makes you pause.
>With every gesture and movement, his acute enunciation only empowers the words even further.
>The Saracen language always seemed so vigorous and energetic yet romantic and inspiring.
>The Arabian crowd erupts in an explosion of cheers and shouts once he finishes his sentence, while the many Zebras only look on.
>This “Oracle” they follow is a damper to morale.
>How can some old Zebra predict the future?
>Selim gives a friendly smile towards you then back to the crowd. Eyes shining as bright as diamonds.
>What he lacks in physical strength his mind greatly compensates for. He would make a promising ambassador if they gave him the chance.
>He would definitely be a better diplomat than you at least. Like how Blueblood was just without the attitude.
>>
>>28758800
>You are reminded by the time you almost started a war with Yakyakistan just by ‘insulting’ their culture.
>Thankfully Blueblood was able to defuse that situation.
>Prince Blueblood.
>It’s been years since you both got held hostage by the Yaks in their first invasion.
>For being a self-righteous silver-spooned pompous prick a part of you missed him.
>He didn’t deserve to die in those mountains.
>And now here you are.
> Sending a foreign army to crush a force raised by the man who negotiated your freedom.
>Allied to the beasts who tortured and beaten you both.
>This seems…wrong.
>No. NO! They are the ones who have insurrected!
>The Princesses have always been our leaders! It was Him who brought all this death and destruction!
>However, he also raised our quality of life.
>Only with the cost of life!
>But he didn’t start those wars, we were drawn into wars of self-defense.
>It was the other nations that grew jealous of our progression.
>Why would he lead a rebellion?
>Yes the Princesses have made some…questionable decisions, but they have always wanted the best for their subjects.
>Always.
>Confusion and doubt fills your thoughts.
>On one hoof you have your loyalty to your nation. To the Princesses. On the other is a being whose knowledge surpassed all known thinking whose actions shown his loyalty for the Equestrian citizens.
>Submit to the crown who created Equestria or stand with the ponies who make up Equestria.
>To what the Captain of the Royal Guard stated Canterlot is the only city still supporting the Princesses.
>Should Celestia stay in control if so many have risen up?
>Can she even keep control after this war?
>Selim steps next to you.
>He must’ve sensed your distressing thoughts.
>”You are doing the right thing. Our kingdoms shall prosper as they did for generations before us.”
>His reassuring smile helps you push away the thoughts.
>This is for peace.
>For Equestria.
>For Celestia!
>However one thought still lingers.
>>
>>28758809
>As they march onward towards Baltimare one of the Arabian Generals trots up towards you both.
>By the blood red armor he wore you knew exactly who it was.
>Terskerlane. Descendant of the former warlords from the land of Transoxabia.
>From what Selim says, the soil rich plains east of Saddle Arabia all belonged to their clan.
>A clan of mighty warriors and leaders who turned a disorganized group of provinces into a might that threatened the sovereignty of the Arabian King.
>Selim explained how they would ransack the most eastern border cities causing havoc and chaos.
>After some persuasion and several tributary missions. This now feared warrior clan let Saddle Arabia extend their borders annexing their lands in exchange for control of a part of the King's Royal Army.
>And this battle hardened army joined with the rest of the King's battalions is slowly making it's way to Equestria along with a squadron of newly crafted airships.
>May Celestia show mercy on the defenders for he will not.
>>
>>28759139
>”Aha what an invigorating performance! Good work translating our honored guest’s most exuberant words. You are dismissed Selim. I must speak with the Commander privatly.”
>Selim gives a slight bow and heads off into the camp.
“Ah, ‘Terskerlane the Mighty’, am glad you approached, I have some thoughts I need to-“
>”Those thoughts have to wait. I have news that might interest you.”
“What news? Are your war machines ready?”
>”That’s part of it. We have received word that the Yaks have retreated back to their mountains and the Griffons are stalled out. We will be fighting alone. However, the airships are en route to our location and shall be here by morning, along with the full force of our Army.”
“How many are coming?”
>”300,000 strong. All well-equipped, well trained, and ready to fight. By ends day tomorrow that eternal city shall be ours.”
“That’s actually one of my concerns, you see with-”
>”I am NOT finished Equestrian! Remember where you are. Selim has taught you well to our customs in such a short time, but I would hate for you to spoil your progress.”
“Apologies. Please continue General.”
>”Very good. Anyway, with just our army we won’t even need those pesky birds or uncivilized oxen. Once we get a hold on the city getting supplies from Arabia will be much easier with the ports. We shall parade through the streets triumphant and proud!”
>His dark brown eyes gleamed in the sunlight with his hoof raised as if posing for a statue.
“Sir...”
>”Ah yes I am done dreaming. Time to make it a reality! I will oversee this assault dampen their spirits of those weary defenders. Tomorrow is the judgment day!”
“Sir. I have a concern with your army’s intensions for my city!”
>”Intensions?”
“After the battle is over and this revolt is quenched, annexation is out right? Because Madam Roxelana stated she would become Vice Regent of the city. Surly this cannot be true. Right?”

>Waking in the middle of the night, you feel incredibly cold.
>From a lantern’s light, you can even see your breath fog the air in front of your mouth.
>Goosebumps cover your shirtless body, as you feel the cold air against your skin.
>You’re not sure what, but something is definitely wrong…
>As you rise from your bed, you grab your sword and unsheathe it.
>Taking the lantern with your free hand, you start making your way to the main deck.
>As you step away from your cot, you start checking the corners around you.
>You’re not letting someone or something get the drop on you.
>With each step you take, you carefully avoid making noise.
>Every instinct you have is telling you ‘ambush’.
>But as you start ascending the stairs, you don’t encounter any disturbance.
>Only an empty ship.
>On the next deck, you continue ascending slowly.
>You do notice that while it is still unusually cold, it is no longer as freezing as it was when you woke.
>If Discord is just messing with you, you’ll kill him.
>Eventually you reach the open air.
>Setting your lantern down on a nearby crate, you adjust to the light from the stars and moon.
>You’d guess that it’s around two or three in the morning.
>As you scan the ship, you don’t see anyone on the main deck or the poop deck.
>That’s when you see it.
>A ship.
>Just slightly larger than your own.
>All of the sails on the other ship are up.
>But it’s still moving across your field of vision.
>It’s maybe a hundred feet out, moving parallel to your ship.
>As it moves towards the stern of your ship, you note that a single broadside from it would effectively destroy the Avalon.
>>
More tomorrow
>>28762512
>The last thing you notice about it before it disappears into the darkness of the night is that you can’t see any crew members on deck.
>Is that another ship that has lost all hands due to the Fog?
>Or maybe it’s the ship that has been showing you the way?
>Is this a dream?
>You speak in a quiet voice:
“Discord?”
>As you wait on the deck for a reply, you feel the temperature start to rise to a normal level.
>You should check on Tiara.
>Walking over to her cabin, you keep your sword at the ready.
>Your eyes have adjusted well enough that as you enter her room, you see that she is sleeping soundly in her bed.
>Her blanket and fur must have let her sleep through the cold.
>You hear a slight snore from her.
>As you turn to exit the room, you stop at the door.
>You’re starting to understand why on the rare occasions when people do come back from the East, they don’t come back fully sane.
>You’ve never been so…
>It’s hard to find the exact word.
>Spooked?
>This is the most unsettled you’ve felt in a long time.
>You glance back at Tiara.
>And then sigh.
>Walking over to the table in the center of the room, you pick up a chair.
>Then take it to the corner opposite of her bed.
>After setting it into the corner, you sit in it and rest your sword atop your lap.
>You aren’t going to be able to sleep anymore tonight.
>And if anything else happens, you want to have a witness at hand.
>Also you should try and protect the only other soul on the ship.
>You lean back slightly and get ready to wait for the morning.

>”What are you doing in here?”

“We need to talk.”

“What about Call?”
>”The Corporal is already packed and aboard the airship.”
>Well then.
>Looks like this is it.
“I can be ready in ten minutes.”
>”Then I’ll see you on the Prydwen.”
>Lancer then addresses you two:
>”I hope you enjoy her maiden voyage.”
>He then looks directly to you
>”And I hope that you enjoyed your R&R. But I don’t have to remind you that if you’re discovered and captured, then you will be disavowed and left to the Saddle Arabian ‘justice’ system. >Looking down the waves crash and retreat against the unmovable rocks far below in an endless dance.
>A heavy wind blew flowing through your rugged unkempt mane.
>The sound of Equestrian soldiers readying up down by the city echoed its way to your location.
>Atop this cliff you can see everything.
>Or could have seen everything.
>A mist rolled in blanketing the open plains slightly reducing your vision of the valley.
>The most you can see now is the ruins of Baltimare. And you had to strain your eyes to get even the remotest image of what you saw.
>Closing your eyes you take a deep breath relaxing yourself.
>Breath in…

>Turning around and opening your eyes you face a familiar hooded Caspian.
>His wide, warm, ever iconic smile greets you like a friend would.
>”I am GLaD you have made it in time. The show is about to start.”
>Puzzled he motions you to look back into the valley.
>To your surprise the mist has dispersed, but that wasn’t what shocked you.
>All along the treeline of the Hayseed Swamps stood myriads of myriads of soldiers.
>And in the distance loomed seventeen airships.
>Back in front of the city the defenders were lining up for…a charge?
>That’s insane, they must be outnumbered ten to-
>”FORWARD!”
>Suddenly and ear piercing roar bellows down from the heavens.
>What in the name of Celestia, was that monstrous sound?
>"The Day of Judgement is upon us. Like them, let us see whose name shall live in marble, and whose lost in sand."

>"Forward march!"
>A thunderous roar of stomping hooves fills the air as the colossal army slowly springs to life.
>The force wasn't exactly what any of you or the generals were expecting.
>The amount of stallions we have isn't a problem.
>It's the fear the spreads among them. It infects each troop like an incurable virus.
>A majority of the troops seemed they were rushed through training.
>Only a small percentage seemed to have had any experience in fighting.
>That small percentage still made up over fifty thousand. All of which were former soldiers under Terskerlane.
>They looked to him as if he is as powerful as Celestia herself.
>As long as he lives they will fight to the death.
>Hopefully their confidence will inspire them to fight.
>While confidence inspires confidence fear encourages fear.
>Those zebras are slaves to their soothsayer.
>'Doom and death shall be our final breath.'
>I pity them and their archaic beliefs.
>After today, Equestria shall be once again united and peaceful under the reign of the Princesses.
>After returning from the battle yesterday, Terskerlane assured you that Roxelana would never be Vice Regent of Baltimare.
>A runner in red approaches.

>"Commander Sentry. Word from Master Terskerlane. You will be in the front with General Roxelana while he oversees with the other Mushirs."
>>
>>28788520
"How can I lead? They may tolerate my presence, but I know that many are still resentful. They would never listen to any of my orders. Even General Roxelana holds onto animosity."
>"Which is why Selim is accompanying you. He has proven more than once to be useful. Now he can prove once and for all his worth."
"No, I forbid him to come. He is unfit for service and has no place on the battlefield."
>"Who are you to take away the thing he wanted most in life?"
"He is MY FRIEND! And he is assigned as my indentured servant under YOUR customs!"
>"That is up to neither me nor you. Master Terskerlane already has him lined up, you better find them before they get too far ahead."

>With a spread of your wings you hastily fly scanning the front lines.
>A blur of spearstalls, archers, shieldbearers, and lancers pass from under you.
>No.
>No.
>No.
>A sea of gold, red, and black marches under you.
>Finding the two would be as hard as finding a needle in a haystack.
>After a moment one of the soldiers catches your eye.
>His awkward limp and twitch signaled it's your incapacitated friend.
>Marching next to him, carrying an extra pack no doubtfully his, is Roxelana.
>She looked incredibly peeved.
>Gliding down next to them Selim gives a warm smile while Roxelana grunts in disgust.

>"Master Sentry!"
>"WHAT ARE YOU DOING USING YOUR WINGS?! Get down NOW!"
"Finding the two of you. I am to join you in leading the force."
>"March like the rest of us Equestrian! Your elevated height could make us an easy target for artillery fire."
>As you land on the ground a few cheers can be heard.
>They were happy to be led by you!
>It felt good to be at the head of an army again.
>The last time that happened was back before this whole mess ever started.
>Before watching all your troops die in that Yakistani work camp.
>This won't end like that.
>Never again.
>>
>>28788968
>"I shall not let you down Master Sentry. I shall fight to the last breath with all my might."
>"No you won't. You will let him down. You will die in a pool of your own blood begging for death."
>Selim becomes silent and looks to you for encouragement.
>You give back a smile but say nothing.
>He's not fit for service.
>Roxelana even has to carry his pack for Celestia sake.
>Why would General Terskerlane order him to join us, at the front for no less.
>Roxelana speaks up.
>"The most joy I will get out of today is being finally rid of you Equestrian. Once you both fall in battle I will claim this city."
"What are you talking about? General Terskerlane assured me that no land of Equestria will be annexed."
>"How naive can you be? Annexation was always an option! he didn't send us to the front to lead the attack. We were assigned here so we can be killed and HE can become Vice Regent. With you gone he wouldn't have to worry about his promise to you."
"And with you gone he wouldn't have to challenge anypony else for power."
>"Yeah well I don't plan on dying yet so-"
>Suddenly above your heads an ear-piercing roar bellows.
>Shouts of fear spread through your area.
>Looking up you see something that would give Celestia herself a chill down her spine.
>There plunging towards you was a manticore with a gold platted man perched atop it.
>A long sharp halberd raised high in his right hand.
>You are stunned with fright.
>If you don't move he will kill you.
>Come on body MOVE!
>Nothing.
>Your petrified body stands motionless as the monster barrels towards you.
>Closing your eyes you wait for the cold blade to sever your head.

>…
>Your eyes slowly start to open.
>Rolling over, you look at the map of Equestria on your ceiling.
>As you look up at the cities and roads, you get a strange feeling in your gut.
>You shuffle yourself over to the side of your bed and start to get up.
>As soon as you get onto your hooves, you feel dizzy.
>Pacing around the room a bit helps you to find your legs.
>As you go over to look out of your window, you feel a terrible headache surface.
>It feels like somepony just shot a cannon off inside of your skull.
>You don’t really feel up to it, but you have to go check out the city.
>This is your first day in this fake Crystal Empire.
>It can’t be real.
>You’ve got to be in a dream or a coma.
>… or you’re dead.
>But you don’t think the dead can get headaches, so that’s a plus.
>As you look down into the city below, you get a strange feeling.
>It’s like you’ve walked those streets already.
>Not the streets of the Crystal Empire, you feel like you walked the streets of this fake one before.
>But this is your first ‘day’ here.
>You wandered an empty void for who knows how long, and arrived here before you went to sleep.
>You’re not sure exactly how much time has passed, because the sun hasn’t moved an inch.
>It’s sometime around noon.
>And it has been for weeks.
>What?
>Why did you just think that?
>>
>>28793989
>You shake your head.
>Probably just the headache.
>Well you better get down there.
>Reaching out to open the door to the balcony, the feeling of having done this before returns.
>You stop your hoof before it can touch the door.
>No.
>There’s no proper through process as to why, but you don’t open up the balcony.
>Instead, you turn and begin walking to the door to your room.
>You’ll take the stairs.
>Stepping out into the empty hallway, you begin heading for the stairs.
>Something feels wrong.
>On an incredibly base level.
>Like you’ve upset some kind of cosmic order.
>Stepping into the stairwell, a sense of immense dread overtakes you.
>It’s almost palpable.
>Without thinking, you move towards the stairs leading downwards.
>Wait.
>The top of the spire.
>You don’t know why you are thinking about it, but the thought of it provokes a vague feeling of importance.
>But the stairs downwards are almost calling to you.
>Like you NEED to go walk through the empty streets.
>Like that is the only thing you ever have to do.
>You slowly start to turn around, and you can feel your body lurch slightly backwards, towards the stairs downward.
>The first few steps towards the upward stairs are incredibly slow.
>Almost like you have to wade through a pool of syrup that’s up to your ears.
>And with each step, you feel yourself more open to moving away.
>But with each step, you feel your headache flare slightly.
>>
I'll be back later
>>28793996
>After getting past a floor or two, you feel yourself freed entirely from the pull downward.
>Also your headache died down slightly, and you no longer feel dizzy.
>Overall, you feel reinvigorated.
>Stretching out your wings, you prepare to fly up the rest of the way.
>…
>You’re here.
>The top of the spire.
>But why?
>Then it hits you.
>It isn’t your headache, but a shock shoots through your skull.
>And you remember everything.
>Everything.
>All of what happened leading up to your imprisonment.
>And every single day that was lost in this fake Crystal Empire.
>But then a distinctively different feeling goes through your head.
>Less of a shock and more of a crush.
>And then it was all gone…
>You’re here.
>At the top of the spire.
>But why?
>Nothing comes to mind.
>A wave of exhaustion hits you, and your eyes start to droop.
>You desperately need rest.
>Well, time to start the walk down the stairs to your room.
>…
>At long last, after a long day of walking through the city, you are back in your room.
>You had over to your bed, and let yourself collapse into it.
>It was so strange.
>All of those empty houses.
>But it wasn’t just ponies missing.
>You saw dog houses without dog, wasp nests without wasps, and ant hills without ants…
>Only you didn’t…
>Today you went up to the top of the spire.
>Then you got tired.
>But weren’t you only awake for an hour or so, if that?
>Your eyes slowly begin to close.
>And you hear a strange scurrying noise coming from the hallway.
>But that is all forgotten as you drift off to sle-
“NO!”

>"Get down Master!"
>The words triggered nothing as your body refused to move.
>Suddenly something hits the broadside of your body forcing you out of the way.
>Out of the corner of your eye you spot the monster pull up out of the dive, and glide over the entire army.
>Screams of terror and panic leave a trail of his direction.
>Getting your bearings you see Selim atop you holding out a helping hoof to get up.
"Thank you Selim. I don't know what else to say."
>"Just don't let it happen again. I don't think tackling is good for my back."
>All around you see the subconscious fear inside all the troops started to leak out.
>Many were already trying to turn to flee.
>"GET BACK INTO RANKS! IF I OR ANY OFFICER SEES A DESERTER, THE ONLY ESCAPE YOU WILL HAVE IS TO THE AFTERLIFE!"
>While Roxelana and some of Terskerlane's Captain's tried to rally back the troops an explosion can be heard above.
>An airship is hit!
>In a spectacle of purple fire and explosions, two of the machines collided with each other raining down debris.
>"MOVE FORWARD! DIE TO THE SWORD NOT BY FALLING WASTE!"
>Another explosion comes from above.
>Another airship down.
>You can only imagine the horrors those flightless stallions are in inside those burning ballons.
>To decide to jump a hundred stories high or choose to sit and slowly burn.
>You fully understand the value of being born a pegasus now.
>As the troops try to line up, Selim motions you to look up.
>You spot the manticore and its rider high in the sky.
>Something is wrong though.
>As they get aligned, the beasts opens it jaws and drops something.

>You just stood there on deck.
>Looking at the fog.
>it’s just normal fog.
>The ship is still moving, the waters below have not become still, and although visibility is drastically reduced, you still have a couple hundred feet of vision.
>It’s not ‘The Fog’ it’s just fog.
>Okay…
>It’s just weather, right?
>But it did come in rather quickly.
>Dare you say, too quickly?
>You glance over at Tiara, who seems to be completely paralyzed.
“Hey.”
>She doesn’t move, her eyes just locked in a thousand yard stare into the distance.
“HEY!”
>She shakes her head back into reality.
>”Wha… what?”
“What do we do?”
>”I… We should bring in some sails. Keep moving but slow down.”
>Makes sense.
“Alright.”
>She remains at the wheel, attempting to keep the heading more or less the same.
>And you…
>You get ready to do more manual labor.
>You’re too old for this.
>…
>Your hoofsteps, as well as many others echo through the well-lit yet metallic hallways of the Prydwen.
>Fires would be too dangerous to use as a light source, so the interior of the ship has areas in the ceiling that hold (non-explosive) crystals that unicorns enchanted to produce light.
>You heard an engineer say that they should last for over two decades before needing replacements.
>In areas that need to be darkened, such as crew quarters, there are shutters that can be closed to darken the room, but the hallways are always lit.
>>
>>28802545
“This entire ship is a technological and magical marvel.”
>”It certainly is… something.”
>Call responds as you walk alongside him.
“And to think that it takes a dozen specially trained unicorns just to keep it in the air.”
>There are over a thousand crewmembers, although around seven hundred are dedicated to the ship’s operations.
>The remainder of the crew is dedicated soldiers, but around five hundred more could be packed in if a ground force was needed in a strategic or tactical location.
>If she had a full complement, the Field Marshal could conquer a nation with this ship alone.
>Well it’s the Marshal, bad example.
>The point is that it’s ludicrously well-armed.
>The introduction of it onto the battlefield will either lead to peace in our time, or spark an arms race.
>You sincerely prefer the former.
>”Well, here we are.”
>A large set of double doors lie at the end of the hallway.
>The forward observation room.
>You see eight unicorns and four pegasi sitting at benches on either side of the hall next to the door.
>If you recall one of your talks with Brairheart, these are runners.
>They either fly to or teleport to different areas of the ship to relay orders from the ship’s commander.
>Anything from a broadside to a full stop is always just a teleport away.
>Well, time to see the Admiral.
>You approach and open the door.
>Stepping into the room, you see that about half of it is windows.
>The glass panes angle upward so that the ponies inside can have a one eighty degree view of the horizon and land below.
>”Ah, Major.”
>Brairheart looks at Call.
>”Thank you Corporal, you can wait outside.”
>”Sir.”
>You wait until the door is closed before speaking.
“She seems like fine ship, Sir.”
>>
>>28802552
>”That she is. Although, I’m sure that Anonymous would use this room as his main bridge, I will not be. It’s a good view, but being one of the most forward areas of the ship, and protected by glass alone…”
“All it takes is a lucky shot to kill the commander.”
>”Still, it works well enough when in friendly skies.”
“It is quite the view.”
>”Personally I prefer the feeling of the wind. The enclosed space makes things much more…”
“Detached?”
>”Exactly.”
“I’m sure the combat performance will be well worth the lost romanticism.”
>”You know, that when Anon had me start construction on the air fleet, he prioritized this ship.”
“Wouldn’t it have been quicker to put a few older style ones together?”
>”It certainly would have been quicker. But when the order was given, he later came to me in private. At that time, we were assuming the worst: that against so many nations, the war would drag on for years. So we started work on this ship instead. A few older airships wouldn’t make that much of a difference, we thought that a new and vastly superior model, although there would only be one of them, would be much more effective in breaking the will of our enemies.”
“Then he went and won the war in a couple of months.”
>>
Small post because character limit. More later or tomorrow, might not get a chance to write tonight.
>>28802568
>”Excuse me a moment.”
>Brairheart goes over to the door, and opens it before speaking to a runner.
>”Get us moving on the pre-established heading. Move quickly, but don’t push the unicorns too hard, we have plenty of time to ease into higher speeds.”
>He then leaves the door open as he moves close to the front facing windows.
>Outside, you hear a pop as a unicorn teleports away.
>”It’s funny actually.”
>You walk over next to him, looking at Canterlot below.
>”We build the greatest weapon of war ever imagined, only to have it completed at a time it might never be used for that purpose. Don’t get me wrong, that’s a good thing, but it is still rather ironic.”
“I suppose it is.”
>You feel the ship lurching to life, as the view starts shifting from Canterlot to the valley below.
>Smooth ride.
>Well, smoother than expected.
>This is it.
>You’ll be back into the fight soon enough.

Did you know that sweet potato is a remarkable plant. It’s a staple food of many traditional cultures. NASA has considered it a potential crop to be grown on spaceships for long term missions. In terms of energy production it’s only 3rd behind sugar cane and cassava. It produces the most food value (a combination of edible energy and nutrition) of any crop per unit space and time. A study of Fijian farms using manual labour showed that ratio of energy put into farming vs yield of energy was 1:17 for rice and 1:60 for sweet potato. It grows on marginal soil and doesn’t require much nitrogen to grow. It takes a relatively short growth period of 3-4 months to yield. All parts of the plant can be eaten including the leaves which provide additional protein and nutrients.

>His screams of pain and fear brought the attention of Selim and Roxelana.
>As he hit the ground, a wave of blood drenched you and Selim while a sickening crack sounded off through the explosions.
>Looking at the mess you notice it wasn't just a random soldier.
>It was General Terskerlane himself!
>Trying your best not to throw-up you take in the sight.
>A steady pool of blood started to form where he lay.
>His skull smashed open on impact spewing his brains and bone onto the ground and an unlucky soldier.
>Intestines dangled out from the giant tears in his once fine plated armor.
>Not doubt those were caused from being a chew toy for that beast.

>No matter what happens, you can’t allow this cycle to continue.
>As you start walking away from your bed, you feel the desire to rest drifting from you.
>You attempt to make as little noise as possible, carefully setting down your hooves as you step.
>What is that noise?
>As you reach the door, you stop to listen.
>At first you could hear a slight tapping against the ground.
>But that stopped once you approached.
>Now you can hear a kind of whispering.
>You can’t pick out any specifics, it’s just sounds.
>But the tone is what frightens you.
>It doesn’t sound like a pony’s voice, instead it’s semi-disembodied.
>Like it’s speaking directly into your ear.
>And it sounds almost melodic, less like a voice and more like the sound of waves hitting a beach.
>You have a bad feeling about this.
>Reaching out to grab the handle, you open the door.
>The hallway is empty.
>You peek out your head and look both ways.
>Not a soul to be seen.
“Hello?”
>Stepping out into the hall, you hear the door slammed behind you.
>You jumped at least five feet forward as it impacts.
>You also may have let out an incredibly undignified scream.
>Turning back to face your door, you approach it and try to open it.
>It won’t budge.

>And that doorway is the access to the stairs.
>You walk slowly towards the stairwell, taking care to listen for any noises other than your hoofsteps.
>You even glanced over your shoulder a few times.
>But you can hear and see nothing.
>Stepping into the (empty) stairwell, you stop and listen.
>It’s very distant, but you can hear voices echoing up from below.
>Actual voices.
>So you begin following them.
>They lead you down many flights of stairs.
>With each step you take, you hear your hoofsteps echo through the stairwell.
>It’s only now that you realize how loud the spire was.
>Back in the real world, that is.

>You still can’t pick out any words though.

>…
>The fog has cut off your view of the sun, but as time passed, you could tell that it was nearing sundown.
>For the better part of the day, you’ve been inching along.
>Neither you nor Tiara has said much in the past hours.
>After you got most of the sails tied back up, there wasn’t much more to say.
>All either of you can do is to watch and wait.
“It’ll be dark soon.”
>”Keep going, just a little longer.”
>That was the most conversation you’ve had since the fog rolled in.
>You were standing on the poop deck, leaning on the starboard side railing.
>Deciding to get a better view, you start walking down the stairs in front of you.
>Once on the main deck, you make your way to the bow of the ship.
>As you pace over the empty ship, you look into the fog directly ahead.
>When you reach the front of the ship, you stop to listen.
>You hear nothing but the sound of waves against the ship and on the open ocean.
>No…
>There’s something more.
>The waves sound like…
>Like they’re crashing against something more than the side of the ship.
>Kaw.
>Was that a-
>You see a seagull land on the tip of the ship’s bow.
>And the sound of crashing waves is getting closer.
>You can just make something out in the fog ahead.
>CLIFF.
“HARD TO STARBOARD!”
>You yell down the deck to Tiara.
>She stays motionless for a moment, and then realizes what’s happening.
>As she starts cranking the wheel, you feel the ship lurch to the side.
>You can do nothing but watch as the ship approaches the jagged rock face.
>If more sails were open, you would have already crashed into it, but even with how slow you were going, it’ll be close.
>You watch as the ship starts coming around, still moving towards the cliff from momentum.
>Due to how the ship was tilted while turning, you hear the end of one of the masts scrape against the stone.
>But, the ship soon settles out parallel to the cliff side.
>And you let out a sigh of relief.
>>
>>28826345
>Turning back to inspect the cliff, you see that it is about as tall as your ship is.
>And it only seems to be a couple hundred feet long.
>You can see either end of the cliff through the fog.
>The odds of hitting it are… improbable.
>To say the least.
“Keep going, I want to see what’s on the other side!”
>”Alright, but after that we need to drop anchor until the fog clears! We don’t know if there are any other outcroppings we could hit!”
“Agreed!”
>As the ship starts peaking around the corner of the cliff, you hear Tiara call out:
>”What do you see?”
>Looking to the island, you see a rocky beach.
>A small strip of sand with lots of rocky outcroppings.
>You can slow see what looks to be the mouth of a cave.
>And bits of shattered wood.
>Wreckage to be exact.
>Someone’s ship wasn’t as lucky as yours.
“A beach with some wreckage from a ship scattered about it! There’s also a cave!”
>”Get over here, we need to drop anchor!”
>…
>With the anchor down, and the remaining sails tied up, you spoke to Tiara:
“Prep a longboat; we’re going to explore the island tonight.”
>”Why should I prep the longboat?”
“Because I need to get properly equipped. We don’t know what could be in those caves, and I’d rather not sleep while anchored so close to them.”
>With that, you went below deck to take a look through your things.
>>
Back soon, my afternoon nap went much longer than I expected so I'll probably be up till 3 or 4

>Your sword was already on your left hip.
>Breast plate, check.
>Dagger next to your sword, check.
>Left boot knife, check.
>Right boot knife, check.
>Kukri under your left arm, check.
>Machete over your right shoulder, check.
>Bowie knife on you right thigh, check.
>You think you can go without the hatchet.
>But just to be safe…
>Hatchet on your right thigh, check.
>Before you head out of the lowest deck, you grabbed a torch from the ship’s storage.
>Time to get back to Tiara, there’s precious little daytime left.
>…
>You find her ready to enter a longboat.
>She’s wearing her ornately red naval officer’s coat.
>And she has a gilded cutlass at her side.
>She takes a look at your equipment.
>”If you really try I think you could lug a cannon with you.”
“Don’t tempt me.”
>You offer your hand to help her into the longboat.
>Then once she’s settled, you work your way into it as well.
>You don’t like leaving the ship alone.
>But when it’s either that or splitting up…

>You feel a strange wave overtake you, and you stagger slightly.
>Why were you surprised at seeing your mom in the throne?
>She’s always there.
>You glance behind yourself to see a cleaning pony mopping an area of the floor.
>To either side of you are two guards.
>”Did you sleep well last night?”
>Your mother asks from the other end of the throne room.
>You begin walking towards her, past the other on duty guards.
“I suppose I did. My bed is a bit too soft for my liking.”
>”I thought you loved soft beds.”
“Yeah, but it feels too soft now. My back would feel a lot better if my bed was firmer.”
>”Well it should be easy to get a new mattress for you. We’ll talk about it later.”
“So, what’s on the schedule for today?”
>”Oh nothing you need to worry about sweetie. Just some day to day stuff.”
“You know I can help with the paper work.”
>”Yes, but you deserve to live your own life. You’re still young, enjoy it while you can.”
“Oh are we both still going on that trip to Canterlot in a few weeks?”
>”Unless something big comes up, yes.”
“Great, when I was down there last I went to this restaurant that you would love.”
>A side door to the throne room is opened and you hear a voice call out:
>”Where’s my little girl?”
>Was that…
>For the slightest moment, you are shaken free of the role that you’re playing.
>You realize that this isn’t real.
>But why would they now add in other ponies?
>Why your mother?
>And why…

>One of Terskerlane's Officers steps forward with the most horrified look on his face.
>"Yardım et! Everypony! Hurry!"
>With those words, many of the surrounding soldiers bearing his colors hastily tried to salvage their former leaders corpse.
>Confused, Roxelana angrily addresses the loyal group.
>"What are you imbeciles doing?! Line back up this instant!"
>As they pick him up more blood pours from his gaping wounds, soaking their coats and armor in a red just as dark as their armor.
>Only two stop to give a rebuttal while the rest finish taking the body.
>"Have you no sense! We are lost without Terskerlane!"
>"Look back to the lines! Your armies have already began to flee! The few who remain will be cut down! Let us take our Master and give him a proper burial! For Royal Blood should never be shed upon the ground."
"Kinda late for that don't you think?"
>With a hoof you motion to yourself, Selim, and the large stain of where he once lay splattered.
>Taking a wing, you wipe away some of the splattered blood from your face.
>With a single flap, the blood whips onto the ground, directly in front of the two soldiers hooves.
>They stare shocked at the blood you sprayed.
>Their shock turns to anger as one of them reaches for their sword.
>"You dare insult us in this time of distress?!"
"I-I didn't mean any-"
>"Silence cretin! You know nothing of our ways outlander!"
>"You will pay. Both of you shall pay!"
>One slashes Roxelana in her side while the other barely misses your neck.
>Through the pain you watch as the mare stabs the berserker through his face, as you fumble to even take out your sword.
>As you finally unsheathe the blade all four of you are distracted by another blast.
>It was the final airship.
>In a great blaze of purple fire, it comes barreling down upon all five of you.
>"If I die. I shall bring you to the afterlife with me!"
>>
>>28830397
>The crazed pony tackles Roxelana and pins her to the ground.
>He bites down and tears the flesh where his comrade had slashed her.
>The wound starts to rip open and a steady stream of blood starts flowing through.
>Roxelana screams from the pain as the mad stallion bits down harder on the open wound.
>You need to do something!
>If you just continue to stand there, Roxelana will die.
>YOU will die!
>Try to save her?
>Flee with the rest of the army?
>Just move!
>Yet your petrified body still stood there. >Watching and waiting to die.
>Time seemed to slow to a crawl yet your mind sensed everything around you.
>From the sounds of Caspian soldiers dropping their weapons to flee.
>To the screams of Zebras and Arabs being burned alive.
>From the explosions of debris and artillery.
>To the battle horns and calls to the now charging Equestrians.
>Everywhere around you death closed in and you could sense it perfectly.
>Even the Captain of the airship that is now hurdling down atop you.
>His unanswered cries for help sounded so clear.
>One thing stood out though.
>While everypony and everything slowed, Selim moved with speed.
>You watched as in one fluid motion he shoved aside the soldier atop Roxelana, unsheathed his janbiya, and slit the attackers throat wrestling him to the ground.
>And just like that your senses return to their normal settings.
>The sound of yells and blasts mesh back into one deafening roar giving you a little shock.
"S-Selim how-"
>"No time! Pick up Madam Roxelana and run! Quickly over there!"
>He motions with a hoof to a treeline leading to a hill.
>Hopefully that can provide some coverage to hide while the Equestrians chase down main army.
>You try to pick up Roxelana, but her screams of agony forces you to set her down.
>"Sorry about this Madam."
>Selim then picks up the mare and places her horizontally over your back.
>The added weight makes you lurch but you still stand.
>"Go! Go! Go! I'll be right behind you. Don't look back! Just run!"
>>
>>28830735
>"Run!"
>With all your might you sprint towards the treeline.
>200 yards away.
>As you make a B line towards the side, hundreds of retreating soldiers pass by almost causing you to fall.
>150 yards
>A great blast followed by gush of wind signaled the final airship hitting the ground.
>You think for a second about the Captain who was still on-board the doomed vessel.
>With the last of the airships destroyed, the remaining pegasus started raining arrows upon the retreating soldiers.
>Some of the more persistent pegasus began diving into the crowd with spears and lances.
>Skewering anypony unlucky enough to be in their sights.
>Luckily the blast stirred up a cloud of dust.
>Some coverage so you all can sneak through.
>100 yards.
>Almost there.
>You could feel Roxelana's blood slowly seep through your armor and into your coat.
>That doesn't matter, she is going to be safe.
>Once the three of you get to the treeline, you can apply some temporary medical aid.
>We'll just have to regroup with the remaining soldiers, hopefully a medic is there.
>Heck even one of those Zebra healers would do.
>50 yards.
>Just a little more!
>Dig deep and push hard!
>How could Selim even pick this mare up?
>She probably weighed twice as much as you with all this armor on.
>With a final sprint you burst into the thick woods.
>Panting and out of breath you lay Roxelana gently next to a tree.
>She lay still but her light breathing showed she is still alive.
>For now...
>Right as you entered into the canopy the dust cleared.
>It would be impossible for the pegasus to have seen you enter.
>The Earth ponies would be too occupied chasing down the retreating army to pay attention to your hiding place.
>All we have to do is stay quiet while they pass.
"We made it. I can't believe we...Selim?"
>You turn to try and find your friend, but he was nowhere to be found.
>>
>>28831030
"Selim. Selim!"
>Panic overcomes your mind as a second wind reenergizes you.
>You try to search through the brush back into the open plains, but with the dust still settling and hundreds of ponies running away It's too difficult to make anything out.
>The top of the treeline.
>It's a risk.
>You might get seen, but you need to know where he is!
>Carefully you silently flap towards the branches just under the canopy.
>With your elevated height you have a clear sight of the entire plains.
>Smoke poured from the fallen airship where you once stood.
>You scan the trail you made from the ship to the treeline trying to find any sign of him.
>There at the tail end of the airship you see him.
>Right underneath the rudders, he stood with a battered shield covering himself from a reign of arrows.
>Volley after volley hit yet he held his ground.
>A pegasus dived towards him with a lance.
>Just as he was about to be impaled he side-stepped the charging pegasus giving a cut to his side with the small curved blade.
>The cut threw the still charging pegasus off balance and he collided head first into the steel side of the wreckage.
>The crash shook the now frail frame of the ship causing the rudders to buckle a bit.
>To the right of the burning husk charged the earth ponies, sweeping up stragglers and closing in on the retreating Arabs.
>Letting out an exhale you scramble to think of anything you can do to try and save him.
>Right as you exhaled however you noticed he turned your way.
>Selim's face immediately turned from battle ready to his usual calm warming demeanor.
>The tight group of charging stallions spot the lone soldier and change course.
>Now they were making a direct charge at him!
>Why isn't he running?
"Run you bucking lame fool. RUN!"
>>

>Be Master Selim Khidr.
>The now Former Supreme Commander of the land invasion force of the Saddle Arabian and Zebra assault force.
>In all honesty you knew this war was a mistake right from the beginning.
>Orders are orders however.
>Growing tired of the political scheming and treacherous deals being made with all your 'allies' you decided to take on a role that can hopefully end this conflict.
>They tricked this poor pegasus commander into training and teaching us their armies weakness and tactics, in return he thought our coalition were all working together to crush their nation's insurrection.
>But it's exactly the opposite.
>At the outset, the purpose of Equestria's enemies was to annihilate her. Her army, her fleet, her commerce, and her industry.
>The Griffons hoped to take the Griffish Isles.
>Yakyakistan expected to conquer the Northern Provinces, which probably were to receive the 'blessings' of Yak culture. The Crystal Empire was to be dismembered, rendered tributary to their Yhan or Khan. However they call it.
>As for the Minotaur's and Dogs, they deliberately entered this war because they thought they would run small risk.
>The world will remember our vainglorious way in which we foretold that before our armies would meet in the heart of Equestria.
>Where the hordes of Yaks would parade through the streets of the Crystal Empire and Griffon and Arabian Knights would stroll through the parks of Baltimare and Vanhoover.
>Equestria would be paralyzed, nay be passing away to history.
>Such were our leaders foolish expectations.
>The only thing this war has caused is senseless destruction and death on all sides.
>Disguising as a servant you wished to teach him of our culture and society. In hoping that our similarities would call for diplomatic intervention.
>I was a fool for thinking that would work too.
>Once the flame is lit there's no going back.
>>
>>28831961
>After today Saddle Arabia will fall to chaos.
>No more will it become the prosperous nation of what it once was.
>Only by the mercy of Equestria might it survive.
>I may fall, my nation may fall, I just hope the ponies and our way of life doesn't melt into the dessert with our incompetent leaders.

>The arrows have stopped.
>None of the pegasus are diving towards you either.
>Hopefully Roxy and the pegasus made it to safety.
>Rumbling.
>Earthquake?
>Turning you see lines upon lines of Baltimare's defenders.
>This is it then.
>Preparing yourself for a final stand you take your stance.
>You think of your brother who is in charge of the navy. Hopefully he'll make it through this.
>Out of the corner of your eye you see a little orange speck.
>They made it.
>No point now.
>You drop your shield and stand up straight.
>Giving a warm smile to that little speck you do your persona's limp bow.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBmSwyZMfT0
>Closing your eyes you can feel the rumbling closing in.
>Closer...and closer...and closer.
>"Goode-bye. Friend."

>”Sir, the next shift has just taken over.”
>A runner says after entering the observation room.
>Brairheart responds:
>”Good, let them and the next shift continue to move at a comfortable pace. Once every team has had a go with it, we’ll be accelerating to proper speeds.”
“Sir.”
>The runner teleports out after a salute.
>After a day of exploring the ship, you were with Brairheart in the observation room.
>He had a table brought in close to the front most windows, so you are currently sitting with him.
>You have a cup of coffee, and the Admiral is sipping at some tea.
>The sun should be setting any minute now.
>”So.”
>Brairheart starts.
>”What do you think of the ship?”
“It’s certainly a sight. A bit cramped in certain areas, but most ships are anyway. Really, words don’t properly do it justice.”
>”No they don’t.”
>He takes a sip of his tea.
>”Well, we should reach the ocean in three more days if the unicorns have the endurance.”
“And how far past that are you willing to risk taking us?”
>”I’ll go halfway across the ocean, but no further. Anything past that you’ll have to fly yourself.”
“Understood.”
>”Oh, and If you haven’t already seen it, at the very stern of the ship’s third deck, there is an officer’s lounge tucked away at the end of the hall.”
“I’ll be sure to drop by. I spent hours exploring the ship and barely covered two thirds of it.”
>”It’s at the very end of the hall, to the right of it is a small library and on the left is a gym.”
“So she was built for the long run? Figured the ponies on board would need their own facilities for R&R?”
>”Something like that.”
>He glances out the window, and then offers a toast with his mug.
>The sun had just set over the horizon.
>”First day of her maiden voyage.”
>You reciprocate the toast.
“Cheers.”

>After rowing the longboat to the small and rocky shore, you got out and lugged it onto solid ground.
>Don’t want the waves taking it away.
>While Tiara exited the boat, you grabbed your torch.
>Reaching into your pocket, you grab a matchbook and start to light it.
>”Anon.”
“What?”
>Once the torch is lit, you look over to her.
>She’s looking behind a rock.
>When you walk over to see her point of view, you see what’s behind it.
>The boulder stopped you from seeing it from the ship.
>A pony’s skeleton.
>An old and rusted axe is lying next to it.
>You approach to check the bones for any signs of injury.
>Cuts, cracks, or teeth marks.
>But at a quick glance, it looks undamaged.
“Starved, maybe dehydrated.”
>”How do you know?”
“I don’t, but there are no visible wounds.”
>”So what now?”
>You look to the mouth of the cave.
>It lies up a ten foot high glacis, leading into the rock.
>It’ll be close quarters.
>You start to unlatch the kukri under your shoulder, and heft it into your right hand.
“Now, we go the only way there is.”
>You approach the mouth of the cave, looking at the dark brown of the stone.
“Walk next to me, and stay in my peripheral vision at all times.”
>You glance over your shoulder to watch as Tiara takes a position on your left.
>Then raising the torch in your left hand, you begin to enter into the darkness.
>You had prepared yourself for a long night of tunnel clearing.
>But not even five steps into the cave, and you could see a light at the end of it.
>>
>>28836918
>You continue down the cramped corridor before coming into the opening.
>It’s open to the sky, and you can see the dark orange of sunset clearly.
>With no fog in the way.
>The opening is built like a crater, with a small lake in the center at the lowest point.
>It’s a steep decline, made mainly of small mesas that form flat areas in the rock.
>You’re maybe halfway between the mouth of the crater and the pond at the bottom.
>The cave you came from seems to be the only entrance.
>Carved into the mesas are narrow staircases that connect them.
>One many of them you can see old crates and barrels.
>And even more skeletons.
>You don’t have time to check them all, but easily over a hundred.
>As you turn around to look at the side above you, you notice something.
>At the top of the south side of the crater, you think you can see a doorway carved into the rock.
>”What is this place?”
>You take note as the last vestiges of sunlight go from the sky.
“I don’t know. But I don’t like it.”
>You begin tracing the quickest path up to the doorway.
>As you begin making your way to the nearest set of stairs, you look over to Tiara.
“Stay close and watch your step.”
>The sky looked to be completely clear, so once the moon peaks over into the crater, you might not need the torch.
>Until then, its warm glow is what guides you up the steep climb.
>Strange.
>The stairs are tall, even for you.
>Ponies usually make stairs slightly shorter than you were used to.
>That means that ponies likely didn’t carve them.
>Or they were just very tall ponies.

>When you arrive at the top of the stairs and mesas, you look into the doorway.
>No actual door.
>The ceiling is about eight feet high, and it’s around six feet wide.
>Raising the torch up to the top of the arch, you see several letters carved into the stone.
>It looks vaguely like a mix between Latin and Cyrillic script, however like in Sanskrit, the letters are tied together with a line atop them to differentiate individual words.
>”What is it?”
>Tiara asks as she sees you studying the text.
>”What language is that?”
“It looks like Old Minotauric, but I don’t recognize the dialect. Older than anything I’ve studied, you can tell the age by how angular the letters are and that they still have the line stringing words together, they dropped the line seven or eight centuries ago.”
>”How do you even know that?”
“No, it was nine centuries ago they stopped using lines.”
>”Hey!”
“Sorry. In my first decade here, I made it a point to study other languages.”
>”Why?”
>Back in the day, you planned to be a historian.
>It’s what you were going into back on Earth.
>The army was just to earn a wage, and seeing as there was almost no conflict you thought you’d be able to retire quickly.
>Well that was part of the reason you joined.
>The real reason you ended up as a soldier was because…
>Well that’s a story you’d rather not get into now.
>That is something you never actually told anyone in this world.
>But you studied languages in your spare time to help further that eventual goal.
>Then conflict became a reality of this world.
>You glance at Tiara, who is waiting for an answer.
>>
>>28848484
“I don’t like to rely on translators when we capture enemy documents. Back in a conflict with the Minotaurs they had a general who sent his orders exclusively in a thousand year old version of their language. They had hoped that if any orders were intercepted, they would take a considerable amount of time to translate before having their codes cracked. That’s a story for another day, but in that conflict I studied the history of the language, and once it was over I did similarly for other languages.”
>”So what does it say?”
“Like I said, I don’t recognize the dialect. In order I can pick out ‘temple’, ‘holy, and ‘to have given up always’. But that’s only a few of the words.”
>”To have given up always?”
“That’s what the suffixes equate to. Also there might also be an ‘eternal’ in there, but it could also mean ‘never’ or ‘toilet’.”
>”Eternal, never, or TOILET?”
“Depending on the exact region it predates, yes.”
>”So we found their holy bathroom?”
>You can’t tell if she was joking.
“One way to tell.”
>You begin to walk through the arch.
>The hallway’s walls, floor, and ceiling are all perfectly flat.
>Whoever carved it out obviously spent a great amount of effort to make it perfect.
>After twenty or so feet, the hall opens up into a room.
>On the far side of the room, some moonlight is coming in to it.
>>
I'll try to be back tonight.
>>28848487
>You begin pacing around the room, observing its build.
>There is a rectangular opening that lets you overlook the horizon.
>Two pillars, both made of un-carved rock identical to the cliff side, are five feet from each other look to support the opening.
>They are tall though, you would place the opening’s dimensions as eight high by fourteen long.
>And it’s only a foot or so off of the ground, that doesn’t leave much room for error if you were to trip into it.
>The ceiling looks to be twelve feet high, and the walls are all roughly thirty feet long.
>And maybe seven feet from the window lays an altar.
>A solid slab of rectangular stone.
>Completely unmarked.
>And in the northeast corner of the room, another pony skeleton can be seen.
>This one has a tattered coat around it’s bones.
“What strikes you about this room?”
>”Good vantage point for overlooking the ocean. Might be for a religious purpose. No toilet…”
“What about the ocean?”
>”What about it?”
“There’s no fog.”
>”Just like in the crater…”
>You return to the entrance to the hallway.
“We should head back to the ship and get some rest. It would be better to look around in the morning, now that we know there’s nothing lurking in the caves.”
>…
>The trip down the crater was uneventful, and you soon got back to the cave leading to the exterior.
>As you stepped out of that cave, you could see the ship and your longboat.
>Both untouched.
>But, you can also see the Fog.
>Not normal fog.
>The Fog.
>It’s much thicker, and you can see that the water is completely still.

Sorry guys, got in at like four last night. Siting down to write in an hour or two
>>28865139
I did. Really liked it, beautiful cinematography. Say what you will about Mel Gibson personally, but he can make a damn good movie. I could see it contending for a few Oscars.
>>28865720
I'd say yes, but if you go to see it don't expect a traditional 'war movie'. It's a dramatized historical piece about a medic, so a good portion of the movie is about his personal life. Roughly a third personal, a third in boot camp, and a third in the war proper. I'm a particular fan of Andrew Garfield, but he did a decent enough job. It's definitely one I'd recommend if you're a fan of WW2 movies and not phased by a bit of non-war storytelling in a 'war' story.

Overall I'd personally give it an 8/10, maybe adding or taking a point after a second viewing. It opened against Doctor Strange, so I'm hoping it does better in the box office in coming weeks.

>…
“So, I think that whatever caused the Fog and took the crew originated from here.”
>You continue to remove the weapons you had equipped.
>”It’s been too long since the Fog had set in… I think it wanted us to come here.”
>”It wanted us here?”
>Tiara asks from the other side of the cabin.
“Whatever caused it does. Back during one of the earliest times that the Fog rolled in, something large could be seen just out of visibility. Then I saw the empty ship go past more recently. I think that the first object was the ship, and that it’s the same ship I saw, and that it’s the same ship that led us in this direction.”
>Tiara points to where she keeps the copies of all know reports from the East.
>”That still doesn’t explain why nopony has ever encountered anything like this. At least two dozen ships had returned from going through this region, and no mention of any fog beyond what is natural.”
>You unhook your armor and set it down on the ground with your weapons.
“You haven’t been feeling any symptoms like the others felt, have you?”
>”No.”
“Well, you should get some rest.”
>”You aren’t?”
“Someone should be on watch. And I can go three or four days before feeling any serious fatigue. Go on, I’ll be fine.”
>At your insistence, Tiara agreed to rest.
>Leaving you in the corner of the cabin.
>As she settles into her bed, you take your sword off of your belt.
>You draw the blade, and set the sheathe to stand against the wall next to you.
>And you then sit in the corner chair, leaving your hand on the grip of your sword as you place the point against the ground.
>At a moment’s notice you could flip your sword around and be ready to go.
>Hours start to fly by as you sit, waiting for anything to happen.
>While you wait, your mind starts going through possibilities.

>You think that you can safely rule out that the Fog is a natural phenomenon.
>Someone has got to be behind it.
>Or something…
>But let’s go off of what you have been able to gather from this island so far.
>From the inside of crater at the center of it, no fog is visible: neither normal fog like you encountered today, nor the unnatural Fog that has been plaguing the ship for the past week.
>The writings you found carved into the rock would seem to indicate that ancient minotaurs once were here.
>But it’s unclear if they actually carved the structure out of the rock; there isn’t much in the way of architecture to indicate who actually built it.
>Either way, they still used the island for something religious, the text and the presence of an altar collaborate that theory.
>Speaking of the altar, it was a good enough size to hold a body on it for sacrifice…
>Could this all be some sort of ancient spell?
>An archaic curse placed on the island by the minotaurs?
>It’s possible, but you’ve never heard of any kind of minotaur magic.
>And all of the skeletons here are of ponies.
>There’s no evidence that any minotaurs died here.
>What happened to them?
>And why would they want to steal the crew of a ship through magic?
>You still have no idea what’s happening here.
>But why?
>Over the centuries, dozens, maybe hundreds of ships have passed close enough to here to get caught in the Fog.
>Why is there no record?
>Either they never made it back after being caught by the Fog, or…
>Or something about this particular ship is unique.
>>
>>28871210
>The thing that is most obvious is you.
>You are unique to the world.
>But how could some age old curse specifically target you?
>And besides, magic doesn’t work on you.
>That leaves Lady Tiara.
>But what’s special about her?
>Nothing as far as you know.
>She isn’t the first pony in the navy to get a position due to family connections.
>What could possibly set her aside from any of the hundreds of ponies that went through this area over the years?
>If that question doesn’t have an answer, then you need a new question.
>Could it be something with the ship itself?
>As far as you know it’s just an ordinary frigate.
>Something it’s carrying?
>You’d have to check the full manifest, but you don’t think there are any artifacts or something similar that would get targeted.
>You lean back in your chair slightly.
>It’s well into the night now.
>As you listen, you find it to be silent outside.
>Well, aside from the odd seagull call.
>Letting time go by, your thoughts soon shift towards more personal matters.
>>
>>28871007
>>
>>28871257
>You’ve made your peace.
>You don’t come back from this voyage.
>But if that’s the case, why do you keep telling yourself that you’ve made your peace…
>You’d suppose that’s because there isn’t much to do other that reiterate old thoughts.
>Not much else to do after all.
>You came out here to protect your little girl, and that’s what you’re going to do.
>You wonder what she’s going through right now.
>Is she even aware that her mind has been overtaken by… something.
>Once she’s free, will she remember anything past when her mind was fully controlled?
>Or will she remember every moment she laid in that cell- all that suffering?
>God, you hope that she doesn’t.
>Well, you should probably try to think of something else.
>At a guess, it’s around midnight.
>Normally when waiting through the night, you would listen to your surroundings.
>To crickets chirping or waves crashing against a beach.
>But here on this ship, there’s nothing.
>No, it’s not nothing.
>You can hear something.
>What is that noise?
>You stand from the chair, and walk over to the door.
>There’s definitely something in the air.
>You open up the door and inspect the deck.
>The ship is empty and Fog obstructs your view.
>But when you listen very carefully, you can hear…
>Is that singing?
>Not an individual, it’s a group.
>And it sounds eerily familiar.
>It sounds almost like a ship’s crew is singing a sea shanty in the distance.
>You can’t make out any words though.
>Glancing back to Tiara, who is sound asleep, you weigh your options.
>Investigate and leave her alone, or stay with her.
>You sigh lowly.
>Before closing the door and returning to your seat.
>You can’t risk her disappearing too.
>As you sit down, you prepare yourself to endure the unknown noise in the distance.
>You’re getting the feeling you’d get while waiting for an enemy to charge in the night.
>And much to your discomfort, the singing would remain in the air for hours to come.

Tonight's a supermoon? Cool I hope I can see it.

>>28872291
It reached it's word count limit (23/24k),I misjudged exactly how long 8k words are (when I made the estimation, the act was around 16k).

>Now you're fuckin with us.
Remember back when it was supposed to be three acts?

Look at it like this, a delay of the Fog arc's ending leads to more green overall, and makes sure that the end of a decently sized story arc doesn't feel rushed.

>He's gone.
>Selim. Your scribe, your translator, your friend, is now gone.
>He was probably the only one who truly accepted you, and now he lays dead upon the fields with all his comrades.
>You slowly hover back towards the ground landing in a mound of soft dirt.
>The cool earth feels good on your hooves.
>Selim doesn't deserve to rot in the sun, he should have a proper burial.
>Walking back to where you left Roxelana, a wave of dread covered you.
>As you came across the tree you set her down in, she is gone!
>There's a trail of blood leading back out into the clearings.
>Did she get captured?
>Dragged away bleeding and broken only to be hurled into a POW camp.
>I need to find her!
>Following the trail of blood you see her just about to exit the treeline.
>She was crawling with one hoof dragging herself along while the other cradled her wounds.
>Quickly to pull her back into the trees as careful as you can to not cause any further pain.
>In a fit of rage she struggles, but with her wounds she could do little damage.
>In a whisper you confront her.
"What in the name of Celestia are you doing?! You could be killed!"
>"Why must you torture me in this way?"
>The question catches you a little off guard.
"What are you talking about?"
>"My army, my nation, my ponies, we are all lost. Let me die a soldiers death. I want my end to be on a battlefield, not curled up bleeding out hidden."
"You are not going to die!"
>"I wish for it, here you were brought and told to teach us of proper tactics and yet it's the enemy who have been blessed and we cursed. Cursed to be destroyed and brought to nothing at the hooves of you Equestrians. I don't want to see that, please let me end myself just as Selim has."
"No. That won't happen. I have faith that even in these dark times, both our nations can rise once more. A peace will be made, and you will be going home! This I promise."
>She says nothing back.
>Her eyes filled with hopelessness.
>>
>>28874219
"Come on, we need to do something about the bleeding."
>Taking some cloth you do your best to apply pressure to the would.
>It's not hospital standards, but it will have to do for now.
"Now to reduce the pain."
>Looking around, hopefully there's something that can give some relief.
>No.
>No.
>That will definitely kill her.
>YES!
>There blooming out from a boulder stood a bundle of poppy plants.
>Carefully biting down at the stem, you pluck each one from the roots.
"Here chew on these. The pain won't be fully gone, but it will provide some temporary relief."
>She just lays on her side motionless, with dead eyes staring off into nothingness.
"HEY!"
>She moves her head slowly to face you.
"I understand how you are feeling, but this is not the time to just give up."
>"HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY UNDERSTAND WHAT I'M GOING THROUGH?!"
>Her sudden outburst makes you jump, but still hold your ground.
"I led my whole battalion to their death's, all those who didn't die in battle died in the work camps the Yaks put us in. You are staring at the last pegasus of the Imperial Crystal Guard."
>Her facial expression drops from anger to sorrow.
"I can remember as if it were yesterday, how I watched my soldiers slowly die off from frostbite or the freezing mountain winds. So don't tell me I know nothing when I watched if happen in front of my very eyes. Eat the plant."
>You bend down to give the poppies.
>As she takes them from your mouth she lingers for a second.
>For that brief second you saw the real her.
>We all wear impenetrable armor. Even after taking off one's plates, or clothes altogether, one still stays clad head to hoof.
>Afraid of opening up, showing our feelings, afraid of someone understanding our thoughts.
>Roxelana the indomitable fighter, I had only seen her real self at this moment.
>Tired to death, almost desperate, that is how she looked...for only a second.
>A moment later she had her armor back, and was her regular self again.
>"Thank you."
>>
>>28874431
>As you finish 'patching' her, a scream echoed out.
>It sounded like it came from the top of the hill.
>"What was that?"
"I don't know, I'm going to go check it out. Are you going to be okay?"
>"I'll be fine."
"You're not going to try and run off again right?"
>"No, no, I'm just...going to enjoy these flowers. So nice."
>Opioids must be kicking in now.
>As you are about to head up the hill, Roxelana calls for you.
>"Wait, wait!"
"Keep it down! Soldiers might still be around and pegasus have ears like diamond dogs."
>"Sorry, but please promise me one thing."
"What's that?"
>Her face is pale from the blood loss, but her smile still made it shine.
>"Be careful."
>She drops a small lance at your hooves.
>"If you see any of our soldiers, please try to help them if you can."
"Alright."
>You tuck it away.
>Hopefully you won't have to use it.
>Making your way closer to the top, the full sight of the plains could be seen.
>This must be where their scouts are, everything was in view!
>Looking back into the valley you see the full scale of the devastation from the battle.
>There weren't a lot of ponies left.
>Just a couple small groups cleaning up bodies and wreckage.
>There were no pegasus in the skies, that's a good sign.
>They all must be busy chasing down the army.
>We might be able to sneak out of here.
>But where will we go?
>A pounding and softer shout sounded off.
>It came just a couple yards away.
>Crouching down you sneak your way closer to the source of the sound.
>The closer you got the more fussing and grunting could be heard.
>What in Celestia is making that noise?
>Coming to a clearing next to the cliffs you see it.

>An Arab laying on its back with a Zebra atop him trying to choke him.
>One of the Zebras legs were broken while the Arab was covered in bruises and marks.
>This is unbelievable!
>First the zebras lowered moral with their 'oracle'.
>Then they were the first to flee the battle.
>And now here was one acting against one of their own allies!
>This ends here.
>You equip the lance Roxelana gave you and charged forward.
>With wings spread and legs like running faster than the wind, you aim the tip of the lance directly at the zebras back.
>It pierces the flesh like an arrow through leather armor.
>Clean.
>When he slides from the lance you notice his mane looks familiar.
>As does his face.
"S-sacul?"
>Your former friend coughs out blood while more streams from the newly made orifices.
>His breath quickened while a pool of blood started to form.
"No no nononono."
>All the hate you felt for the zebras quickly disappeared seeing Sacul dying from your actions.
>Trying desperately to stop the bleeding it continues to pour out.
>It was futile, you probably punctured his lung or diaphragm.
>If he doesn't suffocate he'll definitely bleed out.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry..."
>Tears start to steam.
>All you can do is try and cradle him while you feel his breathes get slower and slower.
>Though he couldn't speak, his eyes spoke just as loudly.
>They were a mix of confusion, hate, and sadness.
>As the minutes passed they lost their vigor.
>His breathing was just mere gasps now.
>And the only thing you were able to do was repeat the same words over and over again.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry..."
>With one final exhale you feel him slump down from your hooves.
>Eyes still half opened you shut them closed and wipe a trickle of blood from his mouth.
"I didn't mean it. Honestly. Please. I'm so sorry."
>As you continue to cradle the lifeless body, the Arabian stirs awake.
>You pay no attention as you rock back and forth, corpse still in hoof.
>"That was very rude of you."
>>
>>28875441
"I-I didn't mean to."
>You feel as if you were going to throw-up.
>"You had no right to interrupt our duel."
"I'm so sorry. Sacul please come back."
>"Since my opponent is slain, you shall take his place."
>As he reaches for his sword you finally notice him.
>"I won't be so nice with you as I was with him."
"Why were you fighting?"
>"We were having a duel. A fight of honor, and you are a disgrace for intervening."
"He was going to kill you, I-I didn't-"
>"IT WAS HIS LIFE TO TAKE! He earned...or would've earned it. Now it's your turn."
>You notice he's not wearing the usual Saddle Arabian emblems. He doesn't seem to be a soldier.
>Who is this stallion?
>Why is he here?
"Who are you?"
>In a flash he moves forward.
>"Death!"
>As he raises the sword, you just stare teary eyed while he charges towards you.

>Eventually the Fog outside started to lighten up.
>Morning.
>You rise from the chair, your night long vigil over.
>Grabbing the sheathe to your sword, you place it back onto your belt before sliding the blade down into it.
>You look out the nearest window, into the dark grey of the Fog.
>Whatever has been plaguing your voyage for the past week is soon over.
>Why?
>Because you have to end it.
>Here and now.
>You have no idea how to proceed, but for Flurry’s sake, you need to end this.
>Walking over to the bed, you look down at Tiara.
>Then reach a hand down to her shoulder.
“Hey, it’s morning.”
>She doesn’t budge.
>You shake her shoulder lightly.
>Deep sleeper.
“Hey!”
>She jolts and swats away your hand.
>”Wha, what?”
“It’s morning. Get breakfast then meet me at the longboat.”
>With that, you take your leave to get something in your own belly.
>…
>Soon you stood at the longboat, waiting for Tiara.
>As you wait, you look out into the fog off of the port side of the ship.
>What is…
>Hoofsteps sound in the distance, but you don’t look over to her.
“Hey, come and look at this?”
>She doesn’t reply.
>You glance over and-
>What the?
>You draw your sword, but when you next blink, you don’t see anyone else on deck.
>You could have sworn that you just say a pony next to you.
>Well, in your peripheral vision, you saw something grey, about the size of a pony.
>But as you look down the deck, you only see the captain’s cabin being opened as Tiara exits her room.
>>
I'll be back in a few hours.

>She begins walking towards you, and you take the time to put away your sword.
>”You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
“Just my eyes playing tricks on me.”
>You hope.
>”Well that’s what you get for skipping sleep.”
>That’s probably it.
“Come look at this.”
>You gesture into the water, just on the edge of visibility.
>”What am I looking at?”
>You move behind her to reach your arm around and aim directly at it from her eye sight.
>”Looks like something’s peeking out of the water.”
“I want to check it out.”
>”Of course you do.”
>…
>After rowing over the longboat, you reached the object sticking out of the water.
>It’s a piece of wood.
>Cylindrical in shape, and angled out of the water, with maybe a foot above the surface.
“Is it just me, or does that look like-“
>”A mast. If a ship crashed here, it would explain the pony skeletons.”
“It would be too dark below the surface to properly explore the wreck, but if I can get to the stern and find its name…”
>”Then we could go through the records back on the Avalon.”
>You reach a hand over into the water.
>Cold.
>”Enjoy the swim.”
>You let out a heavy sigh as you begin to strip down to your underwear.
>The things you do…

>As you start to settle, you shiver slightly from the chill of the water on your skin.
>”Well?”
>You had to go under a couple times to properly locate the ship’s name.
>As you start drying yourself you speak:
“The Valiant. Had to double check and feel around, but I think that’s what it said.”
>”The HMS Valiant… it rings a bell, but I don’t recall any specifics.”
“Well it will have to wait.”
>You say as you pull your pants back on.
“We need to check out the crater in the light, and we’re already in the longboat, so I’d rather investigate that first.”
>With your pants back on, your socks and boots soon follow.
>”You just want to spend more time in their holy toilet.”
“I only mentioned that a word was similar to the word ‘toilet’ in one dialect.”
>”Close enough.”
>You pull your shirt back over your head.
“If actual sunlight was getting through the fog, I would investigate the wreck some more. But, we’ll have to see if we can gather anything based on what the crew brought ashore. I’d guess that most of those crates and barrels were from the Valiant.”
>”Then get rowing.”
“You know that you could help me.”
>”Yes, I do know.”
>You scoot over to be able to use the oars on each side of the boat.
>While she just sits across from you, smugly enjoying skipping out on manual labor.
“You know, you’re a gem, did anyone ever tell you that?”
>”Nopony that I didn’t end up punching.”

>Just before his blade dives into your skull, you are shoved aside from an unknown force.
>With a thud you slam into a stone wall knocking the wind out from your lungs.
>You try to stand but just sluggishly lay there, gasping for air.
>Looking up you see what hit you.
>It was Roxelana!
>With two janbiyas she caught his sword mid swing.
>The two stand motionless, blades connected and eyes locked.
>His sword inches away from the top of her head while she stood adamant in contending.
>"Do my eyes do deceive me? Madam Roxelana. A pleasure to finally meet you in he flesh. It's so much more lively than just through the written word."
>"What are you parasites doing here? Shouldn't your kind be back in Saddle Arabia milking away our citizens taxes?"
>"Our interests go far beyond Saddle Arabia. As do your interests as well I see."
>He lowers his sword and eyes you.
>"What relationship is it you have with this pegasus? Scout? Runner? Shieldbearer?"
>A smug look goes across his face.
>"...Personal Slave?"
>"He's my friend! And you are not going to hurt him."
>"Is that a fact? Well I'm not surprised, a bastard princess such as yourself is expected to indulge herself with such common trash."
"Hey, I'm right here."
>"Hush slave, real ponies are talking.
>"Get back to whatever hole you crawled out of, or else your little cult will have on less louse to listen too."
>Roxelana readies her knives and you brandish your lance.
"I will pin you to the wall."
>"Oh, so the vermin truly have bred. No matter I can deal with BOTH of you!"

>Once you had rowed to the shore and dragged the boat onto the shore, you went through the cave again.
>And once you reached the crater, there was no fog obstructing your view.
>The odd cloud or two could be seen in the sky, but that was it.
>Well, today you were going to properly search the island.
>And you started from the bottom.
>At the very bottom of the crater was a small pond.
>And as you got closer to it than yesterday, you could see that it was clear.
>Well, mostly clear.
>You can see the bottom of the crater through at its deepest, maybe two feet of water.
>At a guess, you’d say that it’s rain water.
>Which would have been worse for the ponies that were stuck here.
>It means that they starved rather than die from dehydration.
>You’ve come close to each of those ways, and they’re both bad ways to go.
>To waste away for weeks…
>Well, they don’t seem to have much gear with them.
>The barrels and boxes you found are mostly empty.
>You would have guessed food storage.
>One of the crates had old fabric in it, but it had mostly deteriorated from age.
>Blankets you would guess.
>The occasional rusted weapon can be found scattered on the ground.
>And skeletons coat the mesas that form the sides of the crater.
>Fifty-eight.
>The one outside and the one up in the room at the top make sixty.
>They all died here.
>Hoping for a rescue that they knew would never come…

>That’s no way to die.
>Then again, is there a good way to die?
>You’ve seen so much death.
>You’ve CAUSED so much death.
>All of the life that you’ve witnessed s it was extinguished…
>What gives you the right?
>Why do yo-
>”Hey!”
>You shake your head away from the skeleton you’re inspecting.
“What?”
>”You were drifting. You okay?”
“I’m fine.”
>”Uh huh.”
>You look around the crater.
“I’ve seen enough out here. Let’s head to the room up there.”
>You begin walking across the mesa you were on, moving towards the stairs that lead most directly to the room.
>As you begin ascending up the crater, you distance yourself from your previous train of thought.
>With all you’ve done, there’s no use second guessing yourself in this life.
>You’ll face your judgment when it’s time, but that time is not today.
>You continue to move from staircase to stair case until you reach the top.
>And you come to the doorway once again.
>Before you enter, you take another glance at the writing over the day:
>Temple
>Holy
>Something
>Something
>Followed by a slightly larger space between words
>Something
>to have given up always
>Eternal/never/toilet
“Holy Temple of… Eternally to have forever given up… maybe eternally to have given up forever. To have forever given up toilets?”
>”You need to speak up.”
“Sorry, just thinking.”
>”Where are you with it?”
>>

“There are three words I don’t understand. See that place where’s there’s a gap? That signifies different ideas or phrasing. In the first bit, I don’t understand two words. The first might be proper noun, because the second is a verb- I can tell from the suffixes. But if that’s a verb and the other verb isn’t a noun, then the second word describes the temple itself. Then with the other half, I don’t recognize that first word, which I think is the subject that has ‘been given up’.”
>”What?”
“Never mind, I’m just reading.”
>”No guess as to what it says?”
“Words, words, words.”
>”Do all of your kind never make sense?”
“Yes.”
>She groans at the statement.
>So you decide to let the words be, and head into the hallway.
>You can see light from the window without even stepping inside; the light shining in gives a much better view of the layout.
>When you mentioned that the walls and ceiling were flat and plain, you couldn’t have been more accurate.
>How could anything be carved that smoothly?
>You keep going down the hall until you reach the main room.
>Once in it, the first thing you do is to approach the window.
>Now that you have life, you look down the sheer drop into the cliff below.
>No glass to stop your fall, all you’d have to do is to step over a foot high wall.
>Then you land on jagged outcroppings.
>With a running start, you might make the water.
>But you won’t test that.
