This doesn't make much sense. Depending on the implementation, a GIF could be displayed before it's completely downloaded, but since the WebM is smaller, it'd be downloaded faster. Thinking the GIF loads faster is probably just placebo.

When I was still using my XP with a wireless adapter (you want to learn the meaning of patience, that's how you learn the meaning of patience) webMs tended to be choppy, loaded slower, and would frequently crash more than .gifs, though .gifs could fail to load too and then got stuck in that annoying jumpcut loop. And no I wasn't using IE, I was using Firefox.

It seems really counterintuitive. But then again, GIF is an old format, created when unreliable connections were usual, so maybe it has a higher error resilience. So maybe in slow connections WebM is better, but in slow and unstable connections, GIF is better. That could make sense.

That's my shiternet all right. I know that some people have it worse than me, though. Back then, when I went into GIF/webM threads, I knew better than to ask "please post more GIFs" if the thread was mostly webM because I knew I'd be mocked and was the exception to everyone else. It was like a curse. Now I use my laptop with 64-bit processor, Windows 10 and an ethernet cable and things are much better. Not as great as they could be, but a vast improvement. (Though lately uploading has been hell—I've had "Connection error" rammed up my ass for weeks and I can't tell if it's my wifi, Firefox's newest version update, or the site.)

I once tried making an MLP thread in /wsg/ actually, with a little reasoning for the janitors that perhaps this should be allowed as long as we keep it to one thread, since there's nowhere else for MLP sound WebM's. It got deleted after a few hours, no warning or ban though. Now the only real way to seem to get change is tell Hiro loudly enough and hope he does something, the mods are happy with the status quo

I feel you senpai. Hub had fun with the show, the channel as a whole was fun. It felt like they actually cared about the show and were fans themselves, we got tonnes of cool stuff from them.
Discovery Family just feels so generic in comparison. I think the one thing they did was that "Apple Bloomers" animation but that was awkward af. Hub had great promos under their belt, My Massive Pony, Dragonfire, Equestria Girls (Katy Perry), the list goes on.
