Ponies don't eat meat, so why raise hogs? Just to eat garbage? A pig is far too large and noxious an animal to keep just for that, and its manure isn't ready compost. Some farmers do turn pigs out on fallow fields to dig them up for gardening or whatever, but the apples seem to do all their tilling by hoof.
Does ponyville export pork to griffonstone or someplace like that with other omnivorous/carnivorous creatures?
As someone who has kept hogs, I can tell you it's not something you want to bother with if there's no payday involved. Hogs are big and destructive and smell horrible and eat massive amounts of food. They turn any available space into a desolate, unusable wasteland if given enough time.

"Needed a home" sounds like Fluttershy's department. A farm is a business, you don't just feed 2 tons of dead weight like that.
but, ok, if that's the answer, then so be it.
As for the truffles...stupid, but ok. Ponies already eat eggs and milk, so their digestion is almost certainly as different from a terran equine as their mouths are (being capable of human speech, and all). There is certainly enough of a leisure class in Equestria to support a truffle market, though it's never been mentioned afaik.
