There are two ways to annex World's Best Mom -- vassalization or warfare. Since they're militarists and going to have a strong fleet almost always, it's near impossible to force vassalization peacefully, at least this early in the game.

So that leaves us with warfare. We can declare war and start nabbing up planets, but peaceful empires (such as Trixie) will be very upset, especially when we start blockading planets and populations start dying from bombardment.

In theory, we can piss WBM off enough that they'll voluntarily declare war on us. That'll avoid the offensive war malus from both Trixies and our own population, but not the bombardment malus.

We can, of course, expand and become so strong that WBM has no choice but to accept our vassalization offer. Needless to say, that'll take a long time to achieve.

With our first colony close to being self-sufficient (and not requiring influx of expensive relocations and migrations) on its own, we need to start thinking about where to expand next.

We need to expand our borders so we can build more stuff in space. Unfortunately, planets outside of our borders are... shitty. They're small, have awkward planetary bonuses, and have too many unusable tiles.

The enticing ones are all within our borders already. They're fairly large with lots of usable tiles, but they won't help us expand our borders any.

What will it be, o wise citizens of HST? Where should we expand?

We don't have to colonize only one, but each extra planet adds penalty to research speed and spawns a building that costs upkeep. So it's better to colonize one and get it "up to speed" before colonizing another.

It's one of those problems with Stellaris's leader system -- they all start in the similar age group, and midgame can be marred by a sudden onset of unrecoverable death wave if you aren't careful with the influence point management.

Surprisingly, our mineral income has stabilized somewhat.

Those numbers are per-month figures. With +52 income and corvettes costing us just under 100, we can continuously queue up corvettes as much as our energy income can support them.

Energy is somewhat low at +3, but acceptable. The income evens out at 0 when our entire fleet is moving, which is all we can ask for. Of course, that'll change as new corvettes finish building in the coming months.
