No nostrils. Can't tell if mare or effeminate stallion, eyelashes might help. Left forehoof looks a bit small. Right foreleg/shoulder look too high up and not very attached to the body. Moving that leg in would fix it, but the body should then be turned to be facing the viewer more to make the grip on the sign less painful looking. Patterns on the forehooves don't seem to match with each other, especially at the tips. Maybe a more pronounced calcaneus for the right back leg.

Nice looking lines and composition, though the cutoff 'H' and dip in the top of the sign not lining up with the logo bother me too.

References for good adventurer fashion aren't exactly easy to come by, so my first thought would be just to wing it.

I was thinking the one on the left in pic related would be okay for him if it were a brighter color (likely a pinkish-purple to match his eyes). It's lighter and looks easier to move and hold tools in than a lot of other pics I was looking at.

I had other pics in mind, but they're more colonial-era naval captain/northern explorer and a little more on the heavy side. The one on the far left in http://www.menstylefashion.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/HERMES-2013-mens-the-explorer-trend.jpg would be a good alternative, though.

Well if you're asking about shading, first off your stuff doesn't look bad. Here's some junk I've found helpful.

1)Braeburned made a nice, simple shading tutorial, so if you haven't seen that you could look it up. Just cover your drawing in a multiply layer, then erase (or use white) where your lightsource would hit the figure. Always think about where your light source is, since that is what is going to make your shadows!
2) Proko does a good job explaining the basics of lighting if you want to know that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dqGkHWC5IU The terms at 8:49 are good to know I guess

Of course, it just depends on how you want your shading to look. Doesn't have to be realistic: going for more "graphic designy" shading looks nice too. Just some suggestions, you don't have to do any of this, of course. Cause it looks fine so far.

I wouldn't say it's talent so much as just studying artistic things, paying close attention to people/animals/landscapes/whatever, knowing anatomy of organisms/landscapes/yadda yadda, training your eye to pick up what you're actually seeing and not what you think you're saying, and being able to put all that onto paper (or whatever else you're using). Obviously, if you start early then you're going to be better at it; at the same time, if someone starts early playing baseball, they're going to be good at it later on in life (most likely anyway). It's the same thing, it's a skill, a learning process, and a thought process that involves all these things. I am a firm believer of Bob Rosstafarian beliefs, like "anyone can paint (or draw, or whatever)." Like literally anything else in life you need, want, or have learned, it takes time no matter what you're doing.

I know a lot of artists, many of them personally. Among them myself partially included are people who have worked harder than so many of the others, some for years on end, and haven't improved in the slightest. And don't hand me that "you haven't seen how hard the artists have worked to get where they are" bullshit, because one of these artists happens to be my sister. She doesn't/hasn't struggled like some of my other friends have. The worst she's endured is a bit of a creative slump trying to think of WHAT to draw. She's never had difficulty being ABLE to draw what she wants. In fact recently, I downloaded paint tools sai for her, and convinced her to use it. All she's ever done before was traditional acrylics/watercolors. She messed around with it for a day or two, and was cranking out piece after piece without much effort at all. Now I'm not saying that artistic skill is entirely decided by born talent, but there are people who have a natural tendency to be better at art and learn it faster. If you feel that that devalues the time and effort you've put into your skill, then I'm sorry, but there is no denying that art comes more natural and streamlined for some than others. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that you can't get better with enough effort.

Eh, my dissociation makes it really easy to see with my eyes closed even if they're open, so having my eyes open has most of the perks and none of the downsides of closed eyes. Daydreaming while not looking like you're doing it is great at many occasions.

I can and often do visualize things with my eyes open, such as brainstorming for drawings, figuring out work order for complicated seams, visualizing routes to places or objects I plan to make, interiors I've visited or am making up, and so on.

With more complicated things (like interiors and seams and objects) it helps to move my hands to "shape" and "turn" the visualization and in the end I'm staring randomly at a stranger's face or at an empty wall while muttering to myself and gesturing. Way to be the village freak. (And I only found out I was doing this after I turned 25 so...)

I feel, growing up as a kid, and even today I suffer.
my dad's a super computer, has worked IT since the 80s. Programming/coding, you name it, he can do it.
my mom? most artistic thing i've ever seen, all 18 paintings are my moms work, she teaches art, has had some of her works on display.
and I drew the short stick.
failing math, because i wrote out 2*2 instead of 2+2 because fuck, the way presented is terrible and i'd find new ways to figure things out.
when it comes to art, it's blocky as hell, i can't think of ways to solve things, because it's not a problem to be solved. it's not binary.
Creative ideas, but can't implement them, due to thinking in binary when it comes to abstract things; thinking creatively when it comes to logical things.
