Because good Spike episodes (both of them) are overshadowed by the unholy trinity of terrible that is OWEW, SAYS, and now PS. Dash has a pretty terrible track record for episodes too (MMDW and RF) but for some reason doesn't get the same stigma attached to her.

Of those three the only one with literally no redeeming value is PS. Honestly you could add Daring Don't to that terrible Dash episode list. That was pretty shitty too. Should have kept Daring Do fictional or at bare minimum made her actually look different from Dash to emphasize that she was self inserting.

I think it's more that she has never had an amazing episode to her own, even Spike has had two where he was by far the major character in them. Her solo episodes, or ones where she's in a "duo" episode with the same level of domination of time as Spike in his two good ones aren't very good.

This is really the core problem with Spike as a character: He only ever gets a few episodes that focus on him, so whatever happens in them is more impactful than say a Fluttershy or Rainbow Dash episode is; and the writers don't understand how to make him properly deserving of the shit that he catches.

Spike episodes would be a joy to watch if in regular episodes he was some irredeemable fuck like Cartman from South Park. But he's always depicted as a little kid who's too stupid or self-absorbed to realize he's actively setting himself up to fail; that doesn't gel well with things like him being cripplingly self-aware of his shortcomings (Power Ponies) and the nature of his crush on Rarity (Simple Ways). It's really weird to me that they treat him as a more-or-less equal member of society in non-Spike episodes, but then age him back to about 5 when they trot him out to be the focus.

Just got Sidekicks is how you do a "Spike gets shit on" episode if you really want to. Not only did he deserve it but he also actually learned something.

The bad Spike episodes everyone complains about are bad because he has moments like you mentioned that don't gel well with other weaker depictions.
