Depending on the proportions of the head/ eyes and assuming it's single pass embroidery: about 20 inches +/- 1 or 2.

Multi-pass could make it larger, but often times it doesn't line up.

hah! Thanks Anon. I THINK they thought they were doing me a favor, too. By the time she made it through customs, the box she was in was SO trashed they they repackaged her...and put her in wrong, so the seam on the back of her neck popped.
Luckily, Agatrix was ridiculously helpful in walking me through how to sew her back up the right way. It seemed to upset her as much as I was.
Still...as amazing as she was, I'm kinda weary about commissioning her again. I know it's not her fault...I just know it could have been much, much worse.

You were right, anon. I fucked up. The silhouette is much closer to what I was wanting, but the stretch pulled from the back end instead of the shoulders when I fixed it. So now the cutie mark is at an unforgivable 45deg tilt. Dammit. There's a certain margin that's okay with me for visual effect, but this is unacceptable.

Well, I've adjusted my pattern AGAIN so I guess it's time to restart. I can't accept this level of shit for a commission. Maybe I can get this Twi done and she'll be the lifesized I take to Bronycon this year.

Best of luck. Before I went to college, I owned 2 shirts I could never wear, and a Derpy and Dash funko figure. That was it.

Now that I'm at college (this is my 3rd year, so this wasn't all aquired in one year) and have my own place, I have a life size Fluttershy, a few posters and other wall art, a bunch of other plushies, around 6 or 7 shirts, ALL the Funko vinyl figures (minus the blue Discord because I don't need a second that's a just a pallette swap), a blanket, the comics, both vinyl records, odds and endes, ect.

Protip: get an on campus job, but don't tell your parents. Even if your school has a site where they post job listings, still go to places personally and show interest. At least at my school it's up to the managers there to update them, which they never do.

Yeah, I've used airbnb before for Anthrocon. It was on the 'good side' of Pittsburgh, it was also one of the cheapest places to rent a room ($45 a room). It was out of a beauty boutique, the woman was very, very nice. The room I stayed in was half the size of the house (pretty much the entire upstairs). Without going too off topic, it was definetly worth it. You just have to read the reviews and hope (if you're a new airbnb user) they choose to allow you.

Materials - $40-60 for minky and thread (2 colors)
Quality fabric & craft scissors - $20
Embroidery patches for eyes/cmark - depends, shop around, at least another $50, buying a machine and the software to do your own is a pretty big investment. $500-3k

I don't think it has anything to do with taxes. There just isn't enough rail traffic to support the ridiculous amount of hiring that happened over the last year. We are losing ANOTHER 25 coal trains some time early next year which means ~1 less two-man crew will be needed every day and that's just one out of four territories in Denver.

Nah. A newhire at the railroad makes exactly as much as someone who has been there 40 years assuming they take the same amount of time off and that they consistently work the same job. It's a weird place. We start off at a higher rate of pay than most anywhere but our pay stays the same throughout our entire career with the exception of company/union-wide negotiated pay raises. The entire system is based off seniority and the people being furloughed are the newest people.

I have a few things to figure out before I start selling them. Like putting up my works on my DA and then finding actual commissions. Working on a LS Rainbow right now and I'm hoping she comes out really good to demonstrate my capabilities.

Question about the water soluble stabilizer though. It's not sticky and I can't use a hoop with this size of cutie mark. Would it work to pin the stabilizer in place on top of the fabric while using tear-away on the bottom or would the loose stabilizer defeat the purpose and make no difference?

This is why I hate applique. This machine is so retardedly inconsistent in everything it does. The red decided to bunch up in two places for no reason which I'm going to attempt to fix. The machine misses stitches constantly as you can see with the blue in-progress. The only way I'm getting stitches to work is to literally pull the fabric back and forth about a 1/16" until one of them magically grabs. The yellow took about 15 passes to finally get enough stitches down that I could go over it normally from one end to the other and tidy it up a bit.. It still looks like shit but will hopefully look better when I go back and fix it up.....

I learned a new trick for rounding off the corners. The inside of the blue bolt looks a lot better than the outside corner. It looks better in person. Obvious a few spots that are screwed up but it's not worth trying to fix and ruining something. I'm done for the night.

Kind of had to use that wide because there was almost a quarter inch gap between the red and yellow fabric after I started sewing. I think the next one I'll sew the red, then baste the yellow, sew, then baste the blue. Also I've never used anything smaller than 5 on the width except for a few small places like the bottom point. It's really hard to distinguish the edges of the applique too since minky is so fuzzy. The extra width gives me more wiggle room. Slowly getting better with each project.

I remember for some reason my two Bladespark ls pones had a particular scent for a couple months, it was an unusual smell but it became nice as I grew fond of them. None of my other pones had the same thing happen. (some makers prewash the minky)
It was like...a faint sweet packaging peanut smell, but there were none in the box.

Yeah. My whole living room smells good now with those 3 pones now....I can't really place the scent, it isn't vanilla. It is almost like a scented soap, hot as harsh as an air freshener. A pleasant, lingering smell. After taking a nap with Cheerilee, I have found another nice position with Agatrix LS pones without wings or with folded wings. Besides her on top with me on my back, I can lay on my side with my groin against her thigh/flank while she is flat on her stomach, normal laying position for her, and one arm around the back of her neck under her mane with that hand holding her fore leg and the other arm under the other fore leg holding the hoof of the same leg that first hand is holding. Intertwining your legs with her hind legs and her tail over your leg is optional. I do this fully clothed as I want her to be as new forever, don't want any dead skin cells/oils/organic matter on her. Sheets/pillow cases changed very often are a must. Better to be too clean

Left is the first attempt, right is the second. Definitely came out a lot better this go around. Still had a few issues with stitch skipping and thread bunching but not as bad as last time. I start red, yellow, then blue. Red starts off perfectly then starts skipping after about 2-3 inches. Yellow skips the entire way down. Blue works almost perfectly all the way. I don't understand why. But after going back over it two or three times in trouble spots it came out really well. Sizing is slightly off but on opposite sides of the plush it won't be noticeable.

So I've finished the body of my mass ponk. I have to say, I dont like this pattern. The legs look far too strangeand the body is too thin imo. Oh well, live and learn. I'll be doing her head today. First try at applique and I think the cutiemarks came out okay! She's got weights in her legs so she's perfect for cuddling. You can use >>25930175 cuddle method.

This. If I remember correctly you're using a low end Singer. Just go and get a new one. Avoid Singer like the plague, go with something like Brother. You can get the same machine QTpony uses for like $80 and he does lots of applique with it.

I only have this problem when doing minky applique where one layer of fabric is higher than the other. e.g., Rainbow's cutiemark where the lightning bolt is layered on top of the body. Other than that the machine works fine. And I'm now officially furloughed. I can't just go spend money on a new machine since I have no idea how long it might be. I keep forgetting to mention.. My cousin is using her (I think) boyfriend's grandma's embroidery machine. Not 100% sure but it sounds like she's willing to make embroidery eyes and such for me. I don't think there's any free patterns of different positions. That kind of stuff starts getting advanced and is really up to the plush makers with experience to fiddle with. There are beanie patterns but that's about it.

Had a new thing happen yesterday when sewing. I thought my needle snapped but it actually just fell out because the screw came loose.

Easy & cheap methods to scale up a pattern?
I've done poster printing where you just tape multiple pages together to build the larger image.

I've seen one plush maker trace patterns off her monitor... so I am thinking with a 55" screen, and picking up a roll of light craft paper, secure it in place. Maybe a good way to avoid the tediousness of the above method.

i'm about to take a shower before going to bed at 5am so that i help keep my life size pony plush clean. here's a bump for all you other niggas out there who do the same.

I think I might just lean towards Bronycon as it'll probably have a wider selection of plushies and such.

I never thought to use a big screen for tracing. That's actually a brilliant idea because you could resize and measure it to see exactly how big it's going to be instead of guessing off arbitrary percentage values. Also having a single piece instead of a bunch of little ones makes for a more accurate pattern since none of your lines would be slightly off when taping.

Tracing on a monitor is easy. The light shines through even normal printer paper. Isn't super thin paper more likely to tear while tracing it on fabric? Seems like that would cause more problems but what do I know?
