I was actually pointing out that I feel Starlight was more intimidating as someone using the facade of equality for more sinister ends, but if you wanna compare evil armies I'm down.
Teenagers may not seem intimidating, but there is an age distortion that seems to occur when going through the portal. Sunset was clearly Twilight's age, or older, when she went through the portal, yet she had the body of a teenager when in human world. I would assume this has to do with the malleable ages of the mane six or the fact that ponies seem to age faster than humans. Given that, I would assume a human teenagers would have the body of an adult pony. So that's a full strength army. Plus mind control would take care of getting the hosts to function properly in their pony forms. Maybe they wouldn't be well trained, but even if the high-schoolers were taken care of there's a whole other planet of humans to use as canon fodder!

Junior and senior high schoolers are human beings at or near their physical primes. Being 20, or 30, or 40, won't make them any more effective. Plus the other end of the portal is being watched over by Celestia and Luna, and the Royal Guard is a stone's throw away. Even if they had decent motor skills out of the portal, it'd still be a task that'd make Operation Overlord look like a leisurely stroll along the beach.

As for against Crystal Empire and/or Canterlot. Now that is a legitimate point. It has been shown that the elements seem to be inert without one another to back them up. Whatever effect the introduction of the magic artifact had on the human world seems to have bent the rules of how it works, allowing it to be used to channel Sunset's desire for greater power to manifest her as well, a demon. Now granted the crown would probably return to it's normal properties once it is returned to Equestria, but whose to say the energy transference wouldn't be retained. This leaves Starlight as a Unicorn with, for lack of a better scale peak unicorn level magic ability (yes I'm using Captain America rules to power scale, just go with it) up against Sunset, a Unicorn with enhanced magical abilities above what even the most powerful unicorn is capable of.
It's like Dr. Strange trying to fight the Scarlet Witch taping into the Life Stream or whatever bullshit they called it. Strange might have the edge in a normal fight, but with that much mojo backing her the Witch is gonna win.

I love the shit out of the character because her true power lies in her supernatural level of charisma. "Power From Charisma" is one of those weird tropes where it is far more common in real life than in fiction. I don't think Starlight's last second reformation was stupid, but then again I don't think Starlight was reformed at all at the end of season 5 - I just think that she made friends with the Mane 6, and the reason I love this character is because this friendship is not necessarily a plot contrivance. Think of how charismatic Starlight has to be to begin with to even kick off Ponestown, let alone successfully build it up and run it. Glimmer's charisma arguably makes it not even strange for Fluttershy to say how nice everything is even though she's currently imprisoned and being brainwashed by her - it even explains how Starlight can show up back at Ponestown after all the shit going down because anyone as charming as she is will get a whole lot of chances in life. It isn't ridiculous because it happens in real life too. Maybe her godly charisma stat actually made it into the real world. Maybe everyone hated her the day season 5 ended, and maybe a whole lot more people like her now.

I'm amazed how many don't seem to get it when she literally said it multiple times in the episode, talking about how impossible it was for a single group of friends to have such an impact on Equestria and trying desperately to accuse Twilight of even fabricating the future she created. The idea of potentially having to let go of her season-long meticulously planned revenge plot was almost unthinkable.

The one thing lacking was how weakly her motivations were portrayed, but realizing what she was doing was wrong on her own was a great resolution.

It's what I wanted to see for her character. It's fitting for a villain that's not a cosmic terror like Nightmare Moon, Discord or Tirek nor an evil Queen like Chrysalis.

Don't confuse this with her backstory or your headcanon. The actual reformation was handled pretty well.

Twilight wore down and ate away at her affirmation of what she was doing. Starlight was in full denial mode after going to the future and needed to hear what Twilight said, her true reformation started the second Twilight took her to that future.
