Just finished watching/skimming through the finale.
Skimmed through the fanwank until I got to something of any semblance of substance.

I liked it, but it pales in comparison to all other finales. Kinda like Crystal Empire, which is an opener and an enjoyable episode, but it really only added some place to dump Cadence and SA for later and wasn't up to stuff with the other openers which usually introduce something great for the season (M6, Discord, reformed Discord and that box, Starlight and the map).

I actually think it's the other way around.
Sure, the alternate dimension scenes were pure sex for anyone ever into pony war, technology, navy, et cetera, but it ultimately was nothing more.
The latter part at least answered the question of Why? regarding all of Starlight's efforts since we first saw her and while still not as great as it could've been (probably at the expense of alt. dimension scenes), it made the episode what it truly was.
