Your eyes. I keep on telling you not to make it all one color, yet you never listen. Either color in only the pupil or make the whole color region smaller. Don't give them dilated pupils.

The horn is too wide and needs more of a soft point at the end. You keep on making them look like finished toilet rolls. Remember the horn should appear attached to the top of the forehead and not look like it was slapped on.

The hind legs(the bottom parts mostly) should be wider than her forelegs. The hindlegs has more muscle tissue than the forelegs. Body could also be a bit longer.

I'm saying it one more time. Don't make the pupils so dilated.

The way you drew her right cheek makes it look as if she has something in her mouth. Try toning it down a bit and make the contour of her cheek ride her outer eye.

I don't know if its intended, but she's got a pudge going on. I like my ponies chubby, so good job. However, her hind leg in the background is shorter than the other legs and not in the shape of a leg at all. Most artists have trouble drawing the hindleg but honestly its pretty easy. Just draw it like you would if its in the foreground, just make it in perspective.

Some other minor problems here and there, but those are some of the things that stick out to me the most. I'm a sucker for thigh heights, so this is by far my favorite picture you drew. Great job!

I tend to draw both ears in the sketch phase but I don't think I got the perspective right so I ended up erasing it when I put the mane in since it overlapped it. Her head is tilted so the further ear should be shown. You're right. But for the record I do draw in both ears. I need to study manes/tails at some point. I'm sick of these flat shapes I've been giving them.

The skull has a huge cranium. Book Horse isn't all that smart and she most definitely isn't a mutant. Look at how skulls are shaped at the top. Try to imagine them as semi deflated sport balls. Not to deflated, but not enough air to play the game correctly. Her ear should be moved lower. Keep in mind pony ears lie somewhat in the center of the side of the skull and not the top.

All of her legs are messed up. Let's start with the forelegs. The right leg needs to end higher to show it is located at the side of the body and not attached to the belly. It looks like you erased the line that should go upwards. Her left foreleg curves at a weird angle upwards. Bones are not noodles, but sticks. Don't make it curve up like that, make it go straight up.

Her thigh is too long. It looks like Celestia's flank, but with shorter shins. Reduce the size of the thigh and lengthen the shin, but don't change the overall size of the leg. The size is fine. Her hindleg in the background is dislocated. She's taking a step forwards so her whole leg should be extended with no bends.

Some helpful tips regarding the hair: Make the strains of hair be parallel with the main shape of the tail. Don't just draw it on how you would think it would look. It will make your manes and tails look a whole lot neater.

You drew the head smaller than the actual body. Its not in proportion. Draw a pony skull shape for the head and add details later. Don't just make a circle as a head and slap facial features onto them. With the body in mind, you stretched the top part of the body. Why? If you're attempting to make bulky ponies then you should first learn how to draw slim ponies before manipulating the mass onto them.

The legs in the background shouldn't share the same plane as the legs in the foreground. They need to be a bit higher.

Mountains are too soft. Realistically, they need to be rougher with more sharp angles. The valley should be in the center of the picture. It would make it more visually pleasing to look at and generally main focus points are in the middle of the canvas.

Regarding colors, try a more natural color pallet. Go for a bit of snow on those grey mountains. Maybe change that brown mist(?) into water or make it have a slight green hue to it. Use a reference.

The only thing I can say about Twilight is her snout or cheek are too large. Her wings are also a bit twisted and she should have a slight glow in the front of her body.

I wanted to mention something other /ic/ didn't say. Your composition is a lil boring t.b.h.. Twilight feels really close to the rest of the mountains, so it feels likes there's only one thing to look at on the frame.

It might look nicer if you made Twilight closer to the viewer and added things farther in the background, to get a better feeling of depth.

Also, Twilight and the mountains are literally the only things in the picture, so add a few other things to make it more interesting :3 .Like you could have some birds way off in the distance, or some little clouds to contrast the large mountains. Because it's just Twilight looking off at...nothing... the viewer doesn't really have anything to look for for themselves.

Hmm, I'll admit I'm not the best at composition. But I think this is too cluttered, sorry if that's my fault.

I guess you could try to think of things as in a hierarchy, like from large-middle-small, or in this case Pony-mountains-castle. Think of things as separate layers like an ogre of distance

Like I think the railroad and river were competing too much to have the same amount of focus/importance. So you could get rid of one of those or find some way to combine them? Same for the castle and cloudsdale

I guess if I were an art teacher I'd probably say something like remember the Rule of Thirds when making a composition. Also, just as a rule of thumb, making your horizon lines really high or really low will make your compositions look more dramatic, cause your horizon was split right in the middle of the pic so that's just something to keep in mind.

I don't totally love my edit but I think it's a lil more organized at least. So I guess you can always mess around with the selection tool and move stuff around and change the size of things until it looks nice to you. Editing is hard!

Sketch dump. Forgive the sketchiness; I'm trying to stay as loose as possible. I tend to stiffen up the pose when I reline. I have a real problem keeping the furthest legs dynamic. You are getting it. Almost. Way better than your previous sketches, but some problems here and there...

The first sketch her head has fused with her body. She's neckless. Simple perspective problem, define the head more by drawing a contour or improve shading on her head. Her foreleg in the background should end a bit towards under her chin, but too much or it will be attached to the underside of her neck. It also need a to be rounder at the hoof. The hind leg in the background is broken and shorter than her other leg.

On the right her hindleg in the background is small. Its not that far away to be that small, unless she got super wide hips then unf. Tail should be thinner where it starts on her body. Anus tail.

Obvious show reference for the final sketch. When doing that, you need to apply the basic fundamentals when drawing. Look at her foreleg being raised up. Its flat. Be sure to use shapes. Another way to help you out is to draw your legs in coils. It should make your shading a lot easier. Also her flank is too flexed and small at that pose. Its also flat, but you'll improve with time.

If you ever get winded out on drawing whole sketches, try working on your facial expressions. They're pretty lifeless and stiff. Her right ear is also missing on the first sketch. Out of all of these, the right most one is , in my opinion, the most cute and fluid of the bunch.

I'd like to make a propose an idea. We should all post one kind of "trick or tip" that we've developed since our time drawing, if we think the other drawfags in here might not have discovered it, so that we have a cool little list of stuff to try out and possibly implement in our future art.

My contribution is this: I find that your characters tend to stand out more if you put a light or heavy gaussian blur on the background. When you crisp lines contradict with the non-crisp stuff in the background, it really helps your character standout and make them seem a lot more emphasized and detailed almost.

WELL if this does become a thing, I'd like to add two things that have really helped me.

1) Either have small areas of detail contrasting large areas of more "blank" areas, or vice versa. Plus this means you don't have to spend a ton of time adding detail ALL over the place and you'll still get nice results

2)Limiting your color pallette really helps your pic feel more unified and easy on the eye Plus it's easier to color if you're only using like 3 colors and just messing with their hue/value, compared to having to color using like 20 random colors all over the color wheel

Spirals in different perspective in smooth motions in both clockwise and counter-clockwise motions. It teaches you small amount of perspective along with a lot of hand-eye-coordination and gets you used to seeing forms. Practicing this over time has huge benefits. After about a solid month of doing the exercises in that video I've hardly had any trouble nailing certain angles which reduces the time I spend trying to get the lines I want.
