Last time, Muffin Top and John angered the faceless guardian by trying to free Daring Do, which prompted one last battle. Muffin Top and John seemed to have the upper hoof, until the faceless guardian brought in reinforcements - the flying guardian that brought Daring Do to the top floor in the first place. A lucky strike with the quetzal feather brought the flying beast down, but then the faceless guardian got in a lucky strike of its own...

And then she charges again, hacking and slashing at the guardian like it's going out of style.

With its back quite literally to the wall, the guardian has no choice but to keep its distance. It tries to push Muffin Top back, but each attempt is met with a kukri slash. The guardian tilts its head, its ears twitching slightly, before its horn begins to glow once more.

Muffin Top's struggles grow more frantic as the guardian charges its deadly attack. She tries to kick and thrash her hooves, but to no avail.

"No... Let... go...!"

And, to her surprise, it does just that. Muffin Top yelps as she falls to the ground, a bizarre hissing groan filling her ears before she can even hit the ground. When she comes to her senses and looks back, she sees John, impaling the guardian's exposed guts on her fallen torch. The stench of burning meat and vomit assaults Muffin Top's nostrils as the burning carcass falls back, wailing and writhing under the withering heat.

Muffin Top dashes back to the chamber entrance and peeks inside. In the dim glow of the magical torches, she can see movement in the center of the chamber.

It's the faceless guardian.

Or, what's left of it. Everything past its withers is little more than mangled, burnt flesh, and the backs of its hollow skull and snaking limbs are scorches nearly black. On shaking limbs and flickering magic, the tattered creature drags its bloody carcass up onto the column that Daring Do was shackled to.
