You know originally I had thought that the writers had tried to have a TNG Q-like episode but missed the mark, but after rewatching it today I think they actually did a pretty good job. Toon Boom is kind of like if you took flash and made it so it was an actually intuitive tool that was meant to be used. Also it lets you use a bunch of shortcuts that make animation easier. The only problem is that because flash was around so long there are a lot of people that can use it really well and they're hesitant about switching over. It's kind of like introducing the hammer after years of using a big rock.

I think the only reason they went with Flash in the first place is because they knew they would have more talent to pick from. Particularly James Wootton "Wootie" was basically a Flash guru who got them up and running and built all their puppets.

It would only be a good thing if they switched. Hopefully they'll put it off as long as possible though. I just know they'll want extra time between seasons because of the switch.

Reminds me of what I heard about the original Toy Story assets. When starting work on Toy Story 3 they thought they were basically lost until someone who was on staff came forward with them from an old computer he had in storage.

But the software was so old and basic they had to remake the models using the old models as a guide to get as close as possible. There's a lot of subtle textures and stuff in the most recent one that's not in the first one.

Just think, someday the software to create pony will be dead and busted and if the show is still running in any capacity (or is rebooted to something else after a few years) they'll probably have to remake the assets a few times between transfers. They'll be copies of copies. The originals not used anymore.
