***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

== THICK MS GROUPBUILD ==

Build a kit of your choice that's heavily armored, and thick in the thighs/arms/torso/general area. Examples include:
>Dom + Dom Variants
>The O
>Virtue/Seravee Gundams
>Gusion/Man Rodis
>Full Armor gundams (If they're heavily armored, and not guns strapped everywhere like the FA Unicorn)

Non-Bandai kits are allowed, so feel free to whip out a Frame Arms kit or something and work with that as long as you make it thicc as fuck.

Start Date: 6/15
End Date: 8/31

How is the MG V2? I'm thinking about picking it up as my first MG.
>>
>>15822820
The MG V2 is a good kit, but I wouldn't recommend it as your first MG. There are a lot of small, delicate parts needed for the transformation that can easily break while just handling them. If you want a good first MG, look at the Gundam X or Strike Gundam, or if you want something that transforms pick up the Zeta Plus C1. It's an old kit but unlike the Zeta 2.0 its fairly solid and the transformation is relatively easy.
>>
>>15822884
I have a really gentle hand when it comes to model kits, but if it's that much of a problem I might pick up a Turn A in that case.

>>15822884

I heard the V2 is a mess structurally with it having to transform and there are a lot of small parts involved. Having previously owned a Zeta Plus A1, its not a bad mold, but I would recommend starting with more modern master grades. People are raving about the GM Sniper II for how well detailed the kit is, and how the inner frame gives it excellent posability. I'd say almost every MG after the F91 have been more or less home runs. The RX-78-2 3.0 (pic related) gives you a taste of what to expect from modern MGs. Once you understand what you're getting into, older MGs are a breeze, despite needing some extra work to look good.
>>
>>15822981
What's wrong with the AGE-1?
>>
>>15823075
How is the F91 MG? I've been considering it, but HG Nobel put me off, because that one doesn't have polycaps either and the joints are way too tight for comfort.

The whole "no polycaps" thing is a lie since they're technically polycaps just not made out of that rubbery plastic. I'd say the f91 is great bang for your buck, its inexpensive, have 2 different color options, and the Seabook F91 comes with a really cool Rafflessia base.

I've got 15 entries for the group build total so far, if there's two more entries submitted within the next two-three days it'll be the largest (hue) group build yet.

The F91 Jegans are getting re-issued. That being announced, you should probably know the B type is the weakest of the 3. It's newly molded left forearm sabre-racks don't hold onto the shield as well as the A type's does. It looks great, but avoid!

People can't be banned purely for being annoying tripfags, anon. Sucks sometimes, but that's the way things are. They have to clearly break the rules somewhere, but if you see that report it.

>>15824731
If you airbrush outside there is a nonzero chance that you'll get dirt/dust specks falling into drying paint. Even if I tried it outside I'd probably wear a mask, because one's face would still be inches away from the pieces much of the time.

For questions of fumes, I found that it's actually possible to use acrylics in an airbrush and do all my work indoors fumeless with nontoxic paint, but it's a lot of extra fucking work and rather different from usual. You have to go in very, very slow in possibly a dozen layers pending how thin you diluted (because it's so fluid, it'll just drip off if you pile on too much at once) so it's slow as shit and will easily cramp your thumb fucking bad taking so long. Also, the paint should have thinners, and probably should be filtered out several times because any chunks will insta-clog the brush (higher-quality paints do it less but if you did any mix at all you'll still need chunk-filtering), and the needle can jam up so frequently you could just leave the outer protective nozzle off to keep wiping off clogs. But hey, no fumes and the end result looks the same as normal.
>>
>>15824731
I airbrush indoors and I use acrylics, I have good ventilation (lots of windows and a fan), but I still use my respirator.

I'm planning on growing old. No use taking any risks.

Amazon is fine, apart from a very slight surcharge.
What are you buying? In my experience, if it says "based in Japan" it'll be via SAL, and customs usually don't bat an eyelid.
>>
>>15824957
why do customs hate SAL?
>>
>>15824960
Customs are fine with SAL, it's anything else they'll throw a wobbly.
>>

Thanks for the insight

havent settled on buying anything atm was looking around for prices

noticed some kits were cheaper on amazon
e.g. I found the hguc ez8 and some IBO & some greco kits
The also include "free delivery" but I assume they just added the delivery to the kit price imo from looking at other sites and their delivery charges

Customs wise I havent had any problems.

Im torn between the MG Unicorn or the RG. I just got back into gundam and building kits a couple months ago. I've heard alot about how much of a pain the transformation is, but what one do you think is the better kit? Any help is appreciated
>>

RG Unicorn.

If you want an MG Unicorn, either get the Animaton version (NOT the ver. Ka) or wait for the inevitable 2.0
>>
>>15825022
Thanks, the RG looks great and I was pleased with my Freedom RG (despite how finicky it is). I was only looking at the MG OVA version because I thought it would be a nice center piece, however I dont want a grenade.

I actually really want this to happen. I love the way the RG looks and that it's finally a transforming Unicorn kit that isn't a piece of shit, but I hate working on RGs because of how tiny the parts are.
>>
>>15825021
RG, without a doubt.

Because half work is lazy work and being lazy is just stupid. How can one live with himself when only doing half the work? Also nub marks sticking out might cause fitting issues, not to mention that some will show anyway, because not everything will get covered.

Define practice, because compared to pretty much any gunpla released since the early 90s those old 0079 kits are more akin to military models than anything else. If anything else you'll be doing more work on cleaning up parts (Parts will actually have flash in these kits), gluing/seamwelding, and painting than just your average assembly stuff.

If you really want kits for practice grab some of those no-grade 1/144 Seed kits, those are about the same price and won't require as much work.

>>15826085
Not to be a complete asshole, but most of those things aren't "learnable", you just do them properly. There is no magic trick to a crooked sticker, you just put it on straight and same goes for nubmarks/stress marks/discoloration, you just remove them (which I still don't understand how people can find that hard since it literally doesn't require you to do anything complicated or special). Panel lining is literally tracing a line. And even that can be fixed even once applied.

>They look amateur and rushed
then take your time, that's literally all there is to it. That doesn't require building experience.

Again I'm not trying to be a complete dick here, but you are making this out to be a very complicated job that requires a lot of skill and practice, but it really is not. Atleast not at that level. I get the feeling you are making this all way to hard on yourself. Ease up anon and take your time on your kits! Your problem seems to be rushing the job or not handeling the kit properly, but that won't improve by building more, that is something you just have to right this moment by slowing down and handeling it properly.

A what?

The kit is a Frame Arms Kagutsuchi Fencer, the only changes i made to it are heavily modifying the arms, giving it a massive piece of dick armor, putting a little collar in front of it's head, and drilling the eyes out for an LED I didn't fit into the head because it'd require scratchbuilding space for the battery and that's to much work for a lazy fuck like me.

I was planning to do more like give it a gatling gun and grenade launchers but I procrastinated for most of a month and only started seriously working on it like a week ago so none of that happened.

Email any photos you have of it (Completed or WIP, both are preferred but if you only have photos of the painted product that's fine too. I just ask for WIP shots so I know that you're not just grabbing something off google and calling it yours) to that email in the copypaste, provide a name for the custom kit entry and that's pretty much it. If you want to provide a short description or something feel free to do that too.
>>
>>15825982
Why would you do it on the runners? Every guide says not to do it on the runners, people here say not to do it on the runners. Once you cut and sand parts will have tiny bits not primed or painted. Yoyu always, always paint parts off the runners and individually, because you have to snap them together and see how they fit to know if things might need pegs cut or whatever for easy taking apart. Thing things through for a second to not have more work to do later. If you own an airbrush then you should realize you would want a 360 degree pass on the parts, which isn't possible on runners without touching other parts. AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PRIME. Without that your blue will look like ass going onto red.
>>
>>15826132
I agree with what you're saying, my point was that the kits I've previously put together are now in the "to fix" pile and I want to try again taking my time with cheap kits so that I don't make the same mistakes when I touch up the ones I've already built.

I don't have any WIP photos saved but I assume this is enough proof it's mine.

Yellow parts and blue/white stuff are failed attempts at casting more parts to use on the kit, you can see the two successful attempts on the backs of the forearms, copied from a piece of the sword that I didn't paint because I was just rushing to get the thing finished on time.

Only one of those I have a complaint with being P-Bandai is the Prototype Stark Jegan and maybe one of the F91 Jegans (Honestly it'd make more sense to make it one single set that included all the parts to make the Jegan of your choice) The others are either easily repaintable or just not really worth getting asides from one or two exclusive weapons

I'm in the process of building the mg crossbone x2, something I've been looking forward to for awhile, as it's one of my favourite designs. And so far after doing arms and torso. I'm kind of hating it, idk the plastic just feels off, like more brittle and the whole thing is light. Most likely due to it being hollow without its core fighter

Sorry, but the thing is that they want to make about 1000 spider babies in your house, all bugs and arachnids go into my vacuum cleaner, they know the territory game, encroach on my territory and suffer the consequences. The "but they eat bugs" is a false answer, kill everything that has more than 4 legs, evict every animal that is noticed your property.

This is the first time I have had to wait what is essentially an entire fucking week for AMAZON.
Not some bumfuck hobby store, the largest online retailer in the world and they've given me radio silence for an entire week. I'm 90% convinced that it's literally never going to be fulfilled and I've got a morbid curiosity if I'm entitled to anything when the Estimated Shipping Date elapses and it still hasn't even shipped.
