How would you go about making a visor for a gundam ? Mostly for a MG one. It would be great if it coud be transparent, but a solid piece of plastic would also make the trick if I can paint it correctly.

If you just need a solid one, then start with a thick piece of plastic, and remove all the parts that don't look like the visor.

For a clear one, perhaps look into some two-part liquid resins, they're usually mostly clear. I have some epoxy stuff that comes out champagne-colored. I imagine if you added some dye while mixing the parts together, you could make it pretty much whatever color.

Ok, if that's a bit cost prohibitive, another possibility is finding a nice clear piece of plastic (I think CD jewel cases are polystyrene, much like Bandai plastic?) and painting it with a clear/translucent color paint.

You might need to do some reshaping of the plastic, though, if you can't find a piece thick enough to carve the curved visor shape you need.

I haven't made any gunpla in years at this point, but I used to a lot of scale modelling and my father still religiously builds 1/72 WWII as a hobby.

I was thinking about getting myself an RG RX-78, and showed him some videos of what you get in the Real Grade kits. Now we're considering doing one each together as a quality time thing. He likes the look of the Astray Red Frame, is there anything problematic about that kit I should know about before picking one up for him?

Just finished building this kit and it's so good!
While almost 2 decades old, this eva kit exhibits great articulation.

Also the building experience is quite refreshing, after building a lot of Gunpla for almost a year. It feels like I went back in time given that the engineering of this kit is decades ago.

Having said that, I'm considering buying Rebuild kits. Should I go for one? Also, Rei's unit is my favorite!

Get an Action Base 2 while you're at it.

RG 00R is pretty solid as it's based on the Exia frame, the only downside is the 0 Raiser being as boring as it always is, but the model is fantastic and it comes with parts to build it with the GN Particle Tanks instead of with the Twin Drives as well.

If you're willing to go extra I'd suggest trying to find the Pbandai 007S for a decent price just as an overall improvement for play and accessories, but the 00R is by no means bad.
You will probably want that action base though, the Raiser makes him pretty back heavy although it's long enough that you'll find him leaning on it half the time.

Are there parts that aren't painted? As for some tips; panel lining will help a lot, especially with that shield since it'll make the transition between blue and white more even (helps disguise the white).

Also, not to be an elitist asshole, but somehow I find the whole paint job to look a little thick. The grey inner frame seems to have lost texture and some of the blue parts look like they lost a bit of their edges because of thicker paint. Or is that just me?

How do you get weathering like pic related done? The way the white looks like it's scratching off and showing the blue underneath. Do you just dab some blue on top of the white, or do you actually scratch some of the white paint off to show the blue underneath? This is probably a dumb question but I'm new to painting so I don't really know how this stuff works.

You tear up cosmetic sponges and use the rough edges to apply paint sparingly. You can experiment with dabbing off excess onto some tissue, and then stippling it onto some card or junk parts.

Final airbrush session for my groupbuild has just been completed. I'm going to go over it a bit with a brush later tonight and then top coat on Monday to give the paint enough time to dry. Topcoat should be dry enough by the 30th for pictures and submission.

My Gusion last groupbuild was kind of a clusterfuck, so I'm really anxious now that I'm nearly done and I'm happy with this build so far.

The ways to do lining are lining with markers or doing a panel wash where very thinned paint is applied on top of the model and gravity lets it seep into the panel lines and stay there. Simple, cost effective, and much more efficient than the markers, but a tiny step up in terms of progress. Well, when you get Obari directing the battles, a lot of things that don't normally look right can look badass.

For example, Reversible Gundam has an absolutely derpy "Guntank" mode. Obari made it badass in the Battlogue by starting off with a strong opening attack, having it be a sihlouette with glowing cameras when it is first seen, then obscuring the bulky back end when it's fighting in close.

Stuff I'd like to see;
Graze Schild. 95% of the kit already exists in some form and it'd be an easy Graze Recolor with a shield and halberd included. Considering the amount of P-Bandai Graze Recolors we've gotten, I don't think this is too unrealistic or asking for very much.

Iok's Reginlaze. I'm not sure why this isn't already a P-Bandai kit, it's perfect.

Spinner/Garm Rodis. I could see these being regular release if the Man Rodi didn't sell so poorly. They'd make acceptable P-Bandai offerings. Labrys might be neat too, but definitely P-Bandai.

Regal Lily
This'd be a really fun P-Bandai Graze kit, considering the new stuff you'd get with it. It has enough hold-overs from the Graze to be reasonable, but would have more than enough new parts to make it worth buying. Thinking on it, this is probably my top pick for the next IBO kit.

Gilda. The superior Hexa-frame kit, which I'd rather have gotten than the Hugo. Should honestly justify a regular release but would probably be P-Bandai anyways.
