Do you think Ultraseven deserves its reputation as a masterwork of not just tokusatsu but of science fiction television? When I first watched it I was ignorant of how apparently significant the show was.

Geed's been pretty good so far, even if it hasn't done all that much to stand out yet. We're still in the "collect the trinkets"/case of the week phase, so only time will tell if it'll stick to it or step up when we get into the meat of things.

I've been pretty disappointed with Geed so far, but it's still appealing enough to keep watching. It's not just the "case of the week" shit that really bores things out, but it feels like they watered down the premise of "the son of a well-known villian Ultraman" into "big toku geek gets his dreams of being a hero come true". It's just so utterly disturbing how shit just happens so suddenly and without meaning in the show, like Little Stars giving their capsules to Riku when they aren't involved. Only thing I actually do like so far is Zero connecting with a human father character, as well as being unable to transform like Seven during Ultraman Leo. I'm hoping the tension of the show will meet the hype later on, but so far it's really too straightforward even for an Ultraman show.

Absolutely, and I think the original Ultraman should be right next to it.
They have different tones, but are both fantastic. Ultraseven is a lot heavier with a stronger focus on character and moral questions, but Ultraman honestly has some of the most memorable kaiju in Tokusatsu. They both deserve all the praise they get.

Gaia Supreme Version is still my most favorite final form of any Ultra. The colors, the physique, the wrestling hurls, and the special attacks. Everything about it just screams POWER.

I still find it odd on how Gaia Supreme was practically the only final form in Tiga-Mebius where it wasn't introduced in the final episode. On a somewhat different note, I'm honestly not sure how to feel about a "final form" thats only introduced and used in the final episode/battle.

I'm chipping away at Ultraman Jack/Return of Ultraman, and I'd love to not have to wait another year for 4 more episodes of Ace (and then another year after that for the rest).

I realize how entitled and selfish that sounds - really, I'm just glad that ANYONE is translating it at all - but that little niggling concern of (what if they just drop the project" just keeps popping up in the back of my head.

It's okay. Nothing really special and plays out more like a Rider/Western superhero than an Ultraman. They're actually prohibited from ever showing any giant monsters or Ultras aside from one brief flashback sequence of Ultraman fighting Zetton.

It's a different continuity from the TV shows and operates under the assumption that the original Ultraman was the only Ultra to ever visit Earth. Characters who show up along the way are references to later Ultra characters though, and many of the aliens we see are human-sized versions of classic monsters.

After watching X again there are so many unclear plot holes
1) X's original name isn't X, and it didn't got picked up afterwards.
2) First episode indicates people on Earth in X-Universe has no knowledge of Ultraman. In the movie it showed Earth does have Ultraman in the past.
3) Professor Guruman respects Mebius as a true god due to incident in Mebius episode 7, yet X-Universe isn't M-78 World. How does it work anyway?

Why do people like showa Ultraman It's not as if though I hate Showa, there's just legitimately nothing interesting that it can offer me.
I just can't sit down and watch 50 episodes of extremely formulaic and objectively bad acting and writing with little to no hook besides "hey im watching old thing this is neat i am so patrician". I'm not enough of a masochist to subject myself to that and I don't care enough about the opinions of others online to try and gain their approval by pretending that I think Showa Ultraman is in any way actually better than any Heisei.
