***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

= THICK MS GROUPBUILD ==

Build a kit of your choice that's heavily armored, and thick in the thighs/arms/torso/general area. Examples include:
>Dom + Dom Variants
>The O
>Virtue/Seravee Gundams
>Gusion/Man Rodis
>Full Armor gundams (If they're heavily armored, and not guns strapped everywhere like the FA Unicorn)

Non-Bandai kits are allowed, so feel free to whip out a Frame Arms kit or something and work with that as long as you make it thicc as fuck.

Start Date: 6/15
End Date: 8/31

Why does the /m/ Gunpla OP have pics of random boxes instead of poster's builds with the "Gunpla General Read the Guid" text over it?
>>
>>15755185

probably because the guy who makes the edgy magazine cover OPs keeps getting banned all the time.
>>

At this rate with 4 mg's a year we'll MG #300 25 years from now.

How difficult is it to save a pic and then put text over it? Not the magazine stuff, just the way its always been done, and is still done on /toy/.

I think its way better than just random box art. And its a tip of the cap to anon's how post their finished fits for precious (You)s and validation.

Holy shit mecha gaikotsu almost destroyed his unicorn.
Gotta hand it to him, it's a sturdy kit and he almost managed to fuck it up.

Makes sense. He reviews kits like he reviews figmas.

>the MG has this weird mechanism where you pull something from the back and it pushes it forward
And so does the RG, I've seen like 4 reviews of it where they do it correctly.

>>15755218
mecha gaikotsu is the worst gunpla reviewer.

he speed builds, takes shortcuts and he gets a shitty kit as a result. he needs to take ownership that maybe some of his kits that he reviewed aren't that good because he rushed the shit out of it just so he can epeen to get it on youtube first.

Seeing as how the Build Strike HGs are pretty bad, the best Star Build is the MG with the Universe Booster.
Lucky for you, Universe Booster is cheap as shit and the Build Strike itself is on the low end of MGs.

I thought they were pretty good asides from a select few that used older kits as a basis like Build Mk. II, Ms. Sazabi and Qubeley Papillon. Most of them are either based on more recent kits like the Sengoku Astray or were designed to be reused into their original base kit (Like the Gouf R35 into the Revive Gouf)

>>
>>15755648
It's pretty shit. The shoulder plates aren't free moving and they have these weird flap things where the arm connects to the torso that block forward and backward movement. The thruster wing things on the back are just rod-in-claw so angling them upward occasionally detatches them. Outside of that though it's pretty average. Most of the issues could be fixed, but the shoulder pads are pretty much fucked

No, it absolutely does not. The body is measured against the head and right now that Tristan' s head is tiny. What is this? The Gundam Pinhead? Voodoo "The Shrunken Head" Gundam? Can't Eat Lead if I Have a Tiny Head Gundam? It's better to just fix it now while you still can.

>an anachronistic release
I think this describes the Tristan perfectly.
If you ignore the context the Tristan came out in, it's a perfectly fine kit that any skilled modeler can make something good out of. By itself, it's not horrible.

Except, if you look at it in the context of current year, 2017, it's just simply a fact that it's on a technical level not up to par with what Bandai is capable of in the HG scale, not even to mention the 1/144 scale.
They're in the same scale -- different grades, yes -- but compare the RG Unicorn to the HG Tristan. Then think about the fact that they both came out in the same year and were made by the same company. You can even compare some of the IBO HGs that came out this year and last year, the HG Atlas, or even the HG Barzam or the HG Ground GM. Whatever you do, the HG Tristan really doesn't stand up well to any of those.

>>
>>15755720
Feddie AGE kits are pretty damn good and some have probably the best articulation on an HG out there for the price. Vagan models vary, but the Legilis and Zeydra were pretty good.

Early G-Reco kits range from meh to bad, but the later kits are pretty good (Dahack, Gaeon) and need a bit more work out of the box compared to other kits from the same year
>>

>>15755616
Don't listen to him, just talking out of his ass. The build strike kits are pretty good, just some small problems for them like the Full package being sticker heavy on the backpack.

Other BF kits for the most part are pretty good because they were sourced from very decent kits to begin with like the K9 Sniper and the Megashiki.

Hahahha, I laugh in sympathy with your plight! When you look at it closely, it actually has less detail than the old Alex! The Alex even has more thrusters than the newer Tristan! Good for you for putting that thing under the knife to give it a bit more surface detail, but are you going to add in some more verniers as well so it's more a bridge between UC90s MS and UC100s MS like it's supposed to be?

On a side note, is there a trick to using those pegs that come with most kits to attach to an action base? Mine never seem to stay on and pop off constantly.

Help me pick some colors for this guy. Im getting a spartan-y vibe, and may do that.

Grab some microfiber fabric or something similar (The smaller the threads the better, mostly for scale reasons). Find a good connection point for where you want the cape to attach, and plan the cape around that. Make a template of what size you want the cape to be out of paper, and cut it out from the fabric. Trim the edges for your needs and attach it.

If you want to make a poseable cape this guide is a good basis. http://www.toymania.com/customcorner/lhcape.shtml
>>
>>15755948
Cut up cloth is occasionally used. You don't want it to be made of plastic as it's going to have a limited pose unless you manage to articulate it by section if pieces off. There should be tutorials around the net.

So I just built my second kit, the RG Amatsu Mina. It was fun, though a big step up from my HG MS-06S. It doesn't feel quite as pliable as videos have shown the kit to be though, so I was curious. So next question: Over the verniers or under? Going over would be like the Crossbones, slits cut to allow the verniers out. Under could possibly be split into 3 segments or something.

I really want a limited release Unicorn box ver.
But I'm trying to be smart and hold off for the eventual Banshee Norn and FA unicorn with Green psychoframe.
I'm really annoyed that they couldn't just release the Unicorn and Banshee at the same time though.

Anyone have any estamates for when we should be seeing P-Bandai variants?
I wanna guess some time in mid-autumn, but I don't pay attention to P-bandai stuff.

Man, that Blitz Arm is making me kinda annoyed that they never did RGs for the other GAT-X units.
I wonder why Bandai never hopped on that.
They all use the same frame minus the Aegis which has some slight alterations.

GM Sniper K9 is pretty much the base GM Sniper II HG with a new backpack/gun and some 1/144 Zeon soldiers. Only flaw I've had with it are that the pistol holders don't really like to stay on and take the whole leg from the waist with them.

EZSR comes with a ton of option parts for kitbashing purposes or if you just want to make your own EZSR custom.

Build/Try Burning have amazing articulation and tons of different hands/effect parts, but are lacking in actual weapons if that's more your preference. Kamiki Burning apparently uses the same internal construction but I don't know how much the armor impacts on the posability.

There's probably gonna never be another kit like Tryon 3 out there, so if you're into the Super Robot aesthetic go for it.

Transient's a bit of a sleeper hit of a kit I feel. The all-white look probably isn't for everyone but it's really something with a new paintjob. Transient Glacier looks like trash though.

In all honesty the Build Fighters/Try line is pretty solid, the only kits you really should avoid are the Build Gundam Mk II, Qubeley Papillon, Miss Sazabi, Amazing Exia/Dark Matter, and any of the SD Kits. The Build Mk II could probably be fixed if you bash it with the Revive Mk II, but the others aren't really salvageable without heavy mods.
>>
>>15756066
I haven't decided if I want to paint it, but ofc I'll be coating it and panel lining it as always.

So for >>15755982 and pic related I actually used a ribbon that had wire on the edges that I cut in half and ironed together using the iron-on adhesive mentioned in that page I linked.

its the 1/72 VF-0S kit from Hasegawa
it does not transform and was a real pain in the ass to complete, would not really recommend it to people who have only built gunpla unless you want something a bit more challenging

Hasegawa released the Battroid form of this kit but the plastic in that one comes molded in a weird yellow color, not pure white like the Fighter mode

Snip with a little bit of the runner left and sand it down
If you cut directly at the base of the part you'll likely cut into it, hence the little white mark
>>
>>15756870
Also depending on the color of the plastic you may be able to slightly cover up the nub mark.
Black will always have one but you can cover it easily with a sharpie or something, while white will almost be unseeable so you won't need to worry
Weird colors like maroon are the worst because you absolutely need paint for it and it's dark enough to always leave a mark unless you get lucky

My first kit was the HG Banshee norn and that came out well. I got rid of all the nubs and sanded what needed sanding then did some panel lining. It was a snap build, but it looked good. I painted it a few months ago as an anniversary project so I can't show it.

My first paint job however was kind of meh. The painting itself went well, but I screwed up when I tried to detail some parts. Also the paint job is a little boring and I didn't do a lot of color variation and separation. See pic related, the geara zulu was my first paint job, the Banshee is in the back.

Someone riddle me this.
The Astray I ordered by SAL arrived two days earlier than the expected earliest date, so it took just under 3 weeks. The Clone Troopers I ordered before the Astray have yet to arrive, and it's been over three weeks ( I thought I paid EMS on them but apparently not, even though i was given an EMS tracking number) Should I be contacting someone about this or just keep waiting?

Hey /GPG/, I plan on getting some Gunpla for use as miniatures in a tabletop game of Mekton Zeta, but I've got a question? What works better for my purposes? 1/444 or 1/100 models?

Gunpla is probably way bigger than you think, even 1/144 is pretty big.

>>
>>15758689
You found an old artifact.
>>
>>15758779
Thanks. One more question, how clashing does it look if some colors are gloss and others matte if they're both going to be topcoated matte in the end? What about gloss?

Because the only purple Tamiya offers is gloss, meaning I'll have to mix red and blue if matte is desirable.
>>
>>15758689
I actually have the rick Dom laying around.
You may need some glue for those old 0080 ones. They love to break.
>>
Does this have the same shoulder problem as the rouei?
>>
>>15757404
I don't paint or topcoat, but use this. I've never had an issue of the plastic crumbling to bits.
>>
>>15758900

Then you can count yourself lucky. Enamel paint/thinner as well as lighter fluid makes plastic brittle. Look at the label on the jar, it states:

Caution: May cause plastic to become brittle. Do not apply to parts which must be pressed in or movable.

Now, the thickness of the piece you're using it on, how much you're using etc obviously matters, so you can get lucky and not have anything break.

However, recommending the product to someone without informing them of this danger is just shitty. I would not recommend anyone to use it on bare plastic, it's an unnecessary risk.
>>
>>15758803
as long as you use a matte topcoat at the end, the colors that was gloss should be matte. i think it would be clashing if some parts were glossy and some were matte
>>
>>15758803
i mean if its all topcoated the same way, how the pieces are prepared shouldn't matter much.

Built this fellow, something to relax with after that flight gouf. Only really needed cementing on the shoulders and leg jets though it's gonna need some paint despite all the sanding anyways. Really enjoyed this kit and I kind of want more of them. Little odd it came with a huge gatling cannon, it only comes with one hand to hold in place of the little laser gun. I may just steal a gunhand off some other kit so it can hold it with the shield arm while still using the laser arm.

There are no good G-Reco kits.

>>
>>15759861
I'm just going 1/1 to the logo as much as I can.
But I'll go back and re-size them when I've done a once go around, do a 3x3 for each logo

How did you get the fin funnels to stay in the back like that? Mine just keeps falling off
>>
>>15760033
Look at the elbow joints and the colors on the shins, that's definitely the HG.
>tfw the HG Nu is as tall the MG F91

what's the best place to order stands from? Amazon wants to either charge me 20 bucks for shipping a 5 dollar stand or make me wait 1-2 months.

I use K-sprit to remove excess panel lines (just because I happened to have it at home), does it work the same way as t-röd?

It's a long night tonight boys. This dude's hot off the presses, took me ages to knock out too just from dumb luck of being busy every time I pick up the nippers.

>>15760078
Amazon doesn't, whoever the seller does.
>>
>>15760119
makes sense, also looks nice. How long did it take you?
>>
>>15760121
Not shitting you, I started this guy sometime last week. Got done tiny pieces at a time over the course of the week. The left arm was snapped but not panel lined or topcoated for about 3 days because everytime I picked up a file to remove the last nub on a piece of armor that goes on the peg under the shoulder I would get pulled away.

if you wanna see something cool, shine a blacklight on it, all the clear blue and orange parts glow

>>15760126
Yeah I figured that out on accident. Have one built into my fishtank and got my Domon a little too close, he lit up.

Well, considering how shitty shitcuck's builds looks and lack of detailing I don't think I can be blamed for thinking something of that size would be 1/100 next to a 1/144 kit

I can't get over how weirdly feminine the Zeus Gundams pose looks
>>
What kind of consistency do I want when thinning paints? Is there a guide for it? It's nowhere in the linked OP.
>>
>>15760481
The common answer is milk.
I can't find a quick and easy answer for the ratio; someone more knowledgeable will get back to you on that within a few hours hopefully.
>>
>>15760483
>>15760481

The ratio itself will vary depending on the brand of paint you're using (and even the product itself), but the milk consistency is correct.
>>
>>15760481
Go for the consistency of milk. There is no set ratio for that since it depends on the brand of paint and even on the individual colors.
>>
>>15760331
What a total waste
