***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

= THICK MS GROUPBUILD ==

Build a kit of your choice that's heavily armored, and thick in the thighs/arms/torso/general area. Examples include:
>Dom + Dom Variants
>The O
>Virtue/Seravee Gundams
>Gusion/Man Rodis
>Full Armor gundams (If they're heavily armored, and not guns strapped everywhere like the FA Unicorn)

Non-Bandai kits are allowed, so feel free to whip out a Frame Arms kit or something and work with that as long as you make it thicc as fuck.

Start Date: 6/15
End Date: 8/31

>>15743137

Thanks, the streaking on the side is typically done with oils, either enamels or artists oil paints, then I use a lot of odorless turpentine to do thinks like rain streaking. Oil-based paints such as enamels and artists oils are a pain to work with (because you can't touch anything) but are really good for weathering because they blend very easily.

Not that anon, but plaplate can be used for many things. The most obvious is building parts from scratch by gluing sheets together at different angles and sanding. It can be helpful for small details too, like making a shape on a blank area of a kit for some interest. Another usage is modifying proportions by cutting an area of a model piece that has no detail then gluing plaplate there and sanding it to the correct shape. See that shovel on the left? That's just a runner cut as a handle and glued to a few plaplates I sanded into the rough shape needed. Very basic, but it gets the point across without me needing to buy some special set.

Which rival pair should I get for me and my gf to build? She got me back into plamo with pic related last xmas and she used to build models and always talks about the swordfish model she has in storage at her mums.

Tallgeese and wing/wing 0, Kampfer and Alex or Ez-8 and Gouf custom? She dislikes the zeek designs so I would be getting basically one ot my three favorite antagonist designs.

Kampfer and Gouf Custom are great in HG scale, Tallgeese hasn't had an HG since decades ago but the MG is well made as many anons will agree. >>
>>15744579
Nope they just have hundreds of prototypes hidden from all of us, no doubt they had the sandrock kai since the beginning of the first EW sandrock and only brought it out in response to the thrid party.

I wouldin't be surprised if they had MG of the Leo, Jegan, Unicorn 2.0 based on statue, Zaku Origins, Tristan(Which may or may not use the Alex MG frame) and various other kits we probably won't ever find out.

I mean they have shown us prototypes of an MG Nobel, Dragon, RIsing and Maxter Gundam, not to mention there was a Zaku Tank.

>>
>>15744878
With that level of weathering it looks odd that it's fully intact with no pits in the armor or gouges.
Although I know it isn't easy to intentionally damage a model.
>>
>>15744904

Maybe yeah but I haven't topcoated yet and I can remove as much as I want pretty easily so I can always clean it up. I think some parts need a bit more open space of the original color, which is easy enough to do.

>>15744907

I wanted it to be more like its sat outside for like a long ass time rather than actual battle damaged, but I understand what you mean. That's the problem with weathering though you always want to make it look natural but it ends up too intentional and not accidental.
>>
>>15744878
Weathering newbie mistake #1: Going overboard.
While it might work with model tanks and in dioramas where there's some context to the dirt and grime, on a standalone kit it just doesn't work.

Also I know I'm being a pedantic lorefag here, but in IBO the nanolaminate armor that makes MSs so OP is literally the paint, so seeing it worn off triggers my autism.

>I know I'm being a pedantic lorefag here

You are but I get it. Though as far as being OP in IBO the Gundams aren't really presented as that great (at least not compared to other series) compared to most other suits and neither is Nano-laminate.It's also multi layer so it should be able to be worn off at least to some degree.

Napalm melts it right off, It doesn't do basically anything at all against melee weapons, and close range firearms will rip it right off and long range hits can damage it as well though not as much.

It would never be damaged to that degree but yeah I get it.
>>
>>15744946
Not to start a vs bullshit thread but:
> IBO the Gundams aren't really presented as that great (at least not compared to other series) compared to most other suits and neither is Nano-laminate.
The Gundams thing in IBO was mostly the twin reactors, every MS had nano-laminate armor. Also nano-laminate is pretty much immune to beam weaponry, so there's that.

>Napalm melts it right off,
Not actually, that one scene of Biscuit freaking out about the napalm was just him freaking out.

>It doesn't do basically anything at all against melee weapons, and close range firearms will rip it right off and long range hits can damage it as well though not as much.
Weapons in IBO are the way they are BECAUSE of how OP nano-laminate armor is. It's not that the armor doesn't help against these things, it's that these things were developed to counter nano-laminate because it changed warfare forever in the setting.

>Not to start a vs bullshit thread
as long as its not ridiculous shitposting I don't see the issue really.

>It's not that the armor doesn't help against these things, it's that these things were developed to counter nano-laminate.

But isn't that exactly the point? It's not some kind of invincible super material (at least not anymore) so it CAN be busted and broken. McGillis even comments about Mikas Nano laminate armor being blown off by repeat hits to the back of Barbatos and it wasn't more than 2 or 3.

>that one scene of Biscuit freaking out about the napalm was just him freaking out.

I don't know if I buy that. If a few bullets can take it off, flaming molten goo sticking to your MS is probably not good for the paint job. Actually if anything id argue it's worse since i'm pretty damn sure the inner frame ISN'T covered in Nano laminate. You get napalm on or in your shit and your joints might melt apart.

Still I think it is mostly irrelevant as I believe most of the armor doesn't corrode anyway with or without the coating.

I just think it looks cool. Not trying for accuracy if I wanted that I'd have just kept it factory.

Among my built kits it's only
6 1/100 NGs
15 MGs (including the patlabor alphonse)
MG rex ver black
4 bandai 1/72 star wars kits

My backlog is crazy though, like 8 MGs, 2 PGs (Unicorn and banshee), Rex, Ray and Sally, about 7-8 star wars kits and the ARX-8 from Koto. and Oh yeah, the Hasegawa 1/72 f¤ Phantom II Ace Combat 20th anniversary edition
and like 6 Bandai 1/72 Valks from macross, frontier and delta.

The problem isn't even that they're loose. It's that the major joints of the shoulders and hips are very thin, very soft plastic. I haven't noticed anything off with the shoulders but they feel like they'll snap when you move them, and the hips are even worse. Just pegging them on had stress marks on all four sides on the hole, and the whole assembly flexes worryingly with the smallest movement.

As I said the kit is nice, but it's hard to enjoy something you worry about breaking just from posing it.

I think the Gaeon in the pic is the perfect example of a gunpla with just the right amount of light weathering. You have to remember that mobile suits are supposed to be as big as fucking buildings. Just imagine if the life-size 1/1 RX-78 in Japan (or any building for that matter) was to be left abandoned without anyone to clean and maintain it. Its paint will start to chip from the edges, dirt will accumulate, and it'll become discolored due to constant to the elements, but probably not to the point where it'll have giant ass splotches of mud/dirt all over it. The big weathering marks you see on tank and fighter plane models look OK since, relatively speaking, they're A LOT smaller than an MS. Unless it's combat damage, big weathering marks on gunpla just messes with your sense of scale, and makes you think that something looks "off".

This product is a model kit that requires assembly. Currently the factory has only produced gray-colored prototypes. The finished product will be fully colored and have over 800 parts, and it will be of higher quality than the 8802 MG Strike Freedom. Preorder discount window is only open for a week, subsequent batches will be more expensive and they will not include the R2 and R3 parts.
