As a newfag who only got into Symphogeah relatively recently, the hate for GX feels really overblown. I agree it's the weakest season in terms of writing and particularly how it handles its characters (bad character arcs for the main trio, people getting sidelined, underused villains, problems being fixed by flipping a switch), BUT I get the impression people mix up "being worse than S1 and S2 at doing certain things" with "being legitimately terrible at doing certain things".
There's a metric fuckton of shows with way worse pacing, way more recycling, way more boring villains, actual character assassinations, and so on. GX is shakier than the rest but I don't get how it's supposed to be the unholy abomination people see it as. For the most part it nailed the music and over-the-top attacks, which as far as I'm concerned are like half the experience.

With Symphogear people have two seasons worth of expectations built up, and the first episode raised people's expectations even higher with how damn good it was. So of course the disappointment will be crushing when it turns out to be poor. Also, as someone who only got into it recently, you didn't have to deal with waiting every week only to get more and more predictable and slow episodes of the same thing happening to a different set of cast members, while also messing heavily with said characters. Seeing, for example, Chris turn into a blabbering idiot who's stupid enough to almost shoot her own juniors just for the sake of artificially making what's meant to be a character progression moment for her have more impact is painful.

There's also the issues it brings to the future of the series just by having existed: They brought topdad in and can't easily dismiss him; Ignite is going to be a huge issue as should be apparent to anyone familiar with series that have similar powerups (Due to it having no downsides now, they will either use it every fight, look retarded for NOT using it in a fight if they're losing, or it will be rendered pointless by them being able to do everything in normal form anyways).

I liked G a lot except the rushed ending. There is no perfect season. Let me.

S1 started by trying to be more dark than it should be, but that only made comedy relief scenes stand out more because the contrast was just jarring. Second half decided to more into crazy territory and it was a good move, especially with the absolutely amazing, batshit insane ending. Ancient priestess, Tower of Babel fitting nicely into the theme of the show, good pacing giving the final battle time for nice fights, character interactions, scenes like Chris's sacrifice (Bark at the Moon, baby). The ending made up for a lot of problems - wonky animation at times, reusing songs over and over (only 3 gear users and plenty of Noise fights since those were still considered a threat), some annoying cliche stuff here and there (Miku please), but not like other seasons weren't cliche sometimes either.

G had very strong start, the animation improved a lot (first 3 eps could be a movie), more gear users = more songs, and those weren't really used for random Noise fights anymore so you weren't listening to the same battle theme over and over again every episode. Plot twists were hype, more moon plot and Custodians teasing, Mikugear was amazing (some people dislike the idea of letting Miku fight and I understand why, but personally Miku has grown a lot on me during G after I didn't like her that much in S1, and her episode and song are the highlight of whole G for me). Sadly, the ending was quite disappointing, even without comparing it to the perfect one we got in S1. The QUALITY was rampart, Chris vs Tsubasa and Kirika vs Shirabe (I love you more, NO, I LOVE YOU MORE) were kinda there, Nephilim wasn't a good final boss like Fine since he was just mindless, badly animated big monster. Ver infusing his arm with Nephilim blood gave me hope for a final fight against literal Verphilim, brawling it out with the gang while screaming about justice. Or something. I wish.

G proved that Symphogear still works, and I expected GX to expand on Custodians plot, but instead we got alchemy. Carol and 11 were ok, dolls were a nice addition (especially Garie), and the season started pretty strong again, but there was a lot of bullshit going on. Hibiki getting an arc again (and the worst possible one), topdad, doll of the week, the list goes on. The twists were still there sometimes but not nearly as hype as G ones, the final confrontation had some good moments (mostly thanks to the music, even if they reused the group song), but again nothing compared to S1. Overall the weakest season so far, but for some time I considered it mostly a filler before going back to Custodians - which apparently isn't happening since we are getting more european alchemists in S4.

Seriously tho, where the fuck are Custodians? S1 set up an interesting story that mixed god, ancient relics, technology and civilizations as things that exist and have relevance. G was a direct sequel to that, but GX and now AXZ went into that weird magic and alchemy direction. What's up with that? We could have greek or norse mythology inspired Custodian demigods going all out with their The Three Tenors songs, sending out their Valkyries to fight gears, and getting into fistfights with Genjuro, bringing the destruction to the world. I'm disappointed.

GX's action, bar a few exceptions, is really underwhelming. No one really does anything outside of their designated episodes, the Noise pretty much stay still throughout most of the later episodes, Hibiki seems to have forgotten kung-fu, etc.
After the shuttle scene, episode 6 and Chris using gun kata I can't help but feel like the action took a uncharacteristically huge step back considering Symphogear only made things huger from S1 to G
Tsubasa's attacks for example used to be epic: making swords rain, making swords pop from the ground, etc. In GX the best we got was the wheel thing and the sword shield again.
I agree people can go overboard with the GX hate, but I get where they are coming from. Carol was a weaker villain than Finé and not nearly as entertaining as Ver, the dolls had cool designs but the monster of the week thing was pretty bad, the action wasn't as awesome apart from a few key scenes, the Noise are STILL hanging around except now they are even more boring because they just stop moving in the later episodes.
I wouldn't even mind the noise returning if they did something interesting with them. For one, one of the keywords mentions that mythological monsters and shit could have been noise, think of how varied they could make them based off of that alone. Make sure you have japanese time set on your device.

At the title screen (on launch before the main menu) there's a button on the top right. Bottom option in that menu repatches the game. It didn't wipe save but make an export key just to be sure.
