It analyzes and subverts almost every fundamental trope from old school super robot shows, such as the value of idealism when piloting a humanoid mech, the very fact that humanoid mecha are incredibly impractical, the fact that small children always seem thrust into dangerous situations in these shows, and hell, even the nature of combat itself as something other than heroic, but rather tragic. If it's not mecha then why the fuck has it appeared in Super ROBOT Wars so many times? It's not an occasional thing like Tekkaman Blade or a one-time thing like Yamato 2199-- it's a recurring series, has been since 1997 in Super Robot Wars F.

No matter how you try to address it, Evangelion is a mecha series. It's biomechs, but it's still a mecha series.

It starts out as a reconstruction, yes, justifying the same old tropes before stripping them away and imagining the genre in a different way, much like what eva is famous for doing, such as was common in the 90's. Now my friend, I am not going to summarize the entire plot of the series for you, and the burden of proof is on you anyhow at this point. If you really want to convince me you have to do more than cherry picking statements while conveniently ignoring others that clearly disprove you, and just doing the equivalent of shaking your head and going "nuh uh" like a little kid. Now, unless you actually present an actual argument I might consider replaying, but until then, no more.

Have you even seen the show past the halfway mark? It examines and lauds the core themes of those shows, though perhaps in not the most subtle way, in particular the made for kids tv anime of the 70's, not the later works of both mazinger and getter robo which introduced the concepts that you are referring to when you call them "more serious than Evan or Gundam". I dare you to go back and watch those same shows, and tell me that Nadesico isn't at accurate in how it handles it.

Evangelion is a genuinely well directed show, both the monster of the week shit and the psychological character drama shit are good, but as a whole Anno didn't manage to fit them together well and the entire show ends up being an absolute mess.

It would be much better if those two aspects of the series were separated into two entirely separate shows.

If that had happened neither of them likely would've ever been as infamous as what Evangelion actually ended up being, and that's be a very good thing.

The anime industry has been greatly influenced by Eva, and that influence has mostly been mimicking the bad parts of Eva rather than the good parts, Rei and Asuka contributed to waifu-faggotry on a level never seen before, and thus 90% of the anime industry is now dedicated to waifu shit.

Nigger we have Godzilla threads on this board all the time, and most of the them aren't talking about Mecha-Goji or Jet Jaguar.

Evahater here, i enjoyed the setting the tiny bit of worldbuilding we got but everything that was developed past that was incredibly infuriating.
The trio of Misato, Kaji, and Ritsuko was nice though. I'm actually really glad that aspect got lifted by Fukuda and re-imagined in SEED with Murrue, Mwu, and Natarle as that made the show bearable when it was heavy on Kira and friends drama, coincidentally a shitty aspect that Fukuda also lifted from Eva.
That being said, i think Mwu was a better incarnation of the character portrayed by Kaji; Murrue's portrayal was more motherly and less lewd than Misato, but not necessarily for the better; i think Natarle succeeded and surpassed Ritsuko as her inner strife was much more palpable and although she did become an antagonist to the other two by the end, she did so out of obligation to her national duty and still was able to thwart the escape of a very real threat to humanity.
