***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

== THICK MS GROUPBUILD ==

Build a kit of your choice that's heavily armored, and thick in the thighs/arms/torso/general area. Examples include:
>Dom + Dom Variants
>The O
>Virtue/Seravee Gundams
>Gusion/Man Rodis
>Full Armor gundams (If they're heavily armored, and not guns strapped everywhere like the FA Unicorn)

Non-Bandai kits are allowed, so feel free to whip out a Frame Arms kit or something and work with that as long as you make it thicc as fuck.

Start Date: 6/15
End Date: 8/31
>>
>>15614372
Wow the Unicorn looks way better without the Psycho Frame.

I'm posting this here again since no one seemed to reply from the last thread:

So, some of my old kits have parts that just keep developing magical stress cracks/fractures. Pic related but not mine.

My Clanche actually had her wrist guards shatter to pieces. How the fuck do I repair this and prevent it from happening again? Specially the wrist guards on the Clanche. I have an inkling the ball joint on the wrist expands the polycap too much thus cracking the flimsy THIN plastic wristguard...

- If I sand the wrist joint to make it smaller, the hand will end up limp and loose.
- If I shave he polycap's outer edges, the wrist guard will be loose.
- If I shave the inner part of the wrist guard that hugs the polycap, the wrist guard will be loose...

I'm stuck in a clanche-22 here.

Also. in regards to fixing stress fractures/cracks, do I use putty? or plastic cement to reattach and seal them back together? And what kind of putty do I use? Is that tamiya brand stuff ok?

You can slap on new outer pieces but it doesn't make it any more of a reprint when the core of it is still the same Alex from over 10 years ago. It's just complete stupidity for them to do that, and i curse what ever suit who gave the okay to do that shit. We can get a new Alex revive potential but no we get a kit that is bad even for it's time.

CR-C90U3.jpg

I just hit a roadblock and really need some help in regards to painting. I've been working on an off on my armored core CR-C90U3 kit for the last couple of weeks and finally got through painting all of the parts (except the ones on the PC runner) and began assembling. It's my first time actually painting a kit and while I know it wasn't the smartest idea to start with this kit, I really want to make it look good. The thing is, I used metallic black (enamel I believe) as the primary color for the frame, but after I finished snapping the head together, I noticed that the black color came off of the back of the head. I began to snap the back of the core part and noticed that the black coloring also started coming off. It does leave a nice chrome finish but since I already have 2 shades of silver for the kit, I'd like to keep it black. All the other black parts have their color so I'm sure it has something to do with me getting my fingers on them.

Is there a way to protect the paint or will I have to repaint all of my black parts?

Nobel gundam finally arrived.

Sometime this summer I want to kitbash her with a GM to make a GM girl, still haven't ordered the kit though, anyone got recommendations for which GM to use?
Which ones would have parts that fit nicely with the size of the Nobell?

I mostly want to do a classic GM girl but if others are a better fit I might consider them.

Personally I like to wash the parts in an ultrasonic cleaner with some soapy water but failing that you could just lightly clean them off with a toothbrush to clean off oils and shit. Using a primer is essential to painting though so the paint has something to adhere to.

I'll give you a (you) since I'm feeling charitable.

>So, some of my old kits have parts that just keep developing magical stress cracks/fractures. Pic related but not mine.
First thing's first, you need to give us pics of YOUR kit and your problem first before anyone can begin to give you any kind of advice. Your descriptions are too vague, and without being able to see the problems ourselves, we're not gonna know how to begin to offer you constructive advice. Like, we have no idea if it's "stress" cracks like you claim, or something else entirely (pic looks less like "stress" and more like plastic degradation from using corrosive paint without a protective primer/base coat)
>>
>>15615742
I'd actually like to give actual pics but I don't have a decent camera. And my s5 doesn't seem to focus when taking close-up pics. My macro shots of the problem part keep getting a potato-quality result that you can barely see anything besides a pixelated blur. Ergo my use of someone else's pics as an example because it's the closest thing that looks identical to the cracks I have.

Also, regarding my query, this part:
>in regards to fixing stress fractures/cracks, do I use putty? or plastic cement to reattach and seal them back together? And what kind of putty do I use? Is that tamiya brand stuff ok?
This wasn't that vague. You could've answered that, at least. But nevermind. Since I got more "actual help" and useful advice over on the other gunpla general.

>>
>>15614500
Not really sure how to help that friend. I do weird things to my gunpla and have yet to deal with age cracks like that. If it's a kit I really like and feel I have to devote more time to it I usually study the pieces closely and then when building I'll coat the underside of the pieces with JB Weld or some other type of epoxy, making sure to not be problematic with any range of motion. It gives the kit heft as well as secures any magnets, ball bearings or iron filings I may hide inside. Maybe that's what you need to do to strengthen and reinforce pieces so they won't crack over time.
>>
>>15615812

I did keep trying. Tried everything sans factory reset. It's like everytime the camera on my s5 tries to focus on a close up shot, it focuses super sharp for 1 second where the entire thing looks HD then goes back to potato-mode. I just fucking want it to get stuck in that split second where it's super focused so I can finally take pics of my other kits but it keeps being a pos.

While it's true that Tristan's general shittiness has called attention to the general unwillingness of the gunpla fanbase to step out of their snap assembly comfort zone and do some basic touchups, it sure as fuck shouldn't be considered some sort of litmus test. The Tristan is a legitimately lazy kit. It's so out of place I'm almost certain it's some kind of marketing stunt, like later on in Twilight of Axis the Tristan will get upgraded to a new frame entirely and a new kit will come out with a proper new runner replacing the Alex's.

But oh wait, you're just shitposting for (you)s so I don't even know why I bother.
>>
>>15617102

It's definitely a shitty model by today's standards, and bandai is heavily at fault.
But it also shows that modern gunpla builders have gotten lazy.
People should be taking it on as a fun challenge.
Revamping a crappy lot is one of the most fun and coolest experiences a builder can have.
It also lets you go all out on techniques.

Er, no? It relies on the camera2 api, which admittedly the S5 doesn't have so iirc it doesn't have manual focus or a pro mode anyway. But any phone that has camera2 will have all sorts of manual controls built in to its default camera app.

Anyway, like I said in >>15615983 the best way to get the S5's camera to focus is just move the phone and the subject of the photo around a bit, maybe give it something flat and bright to focus on. And sometimes you won't get it perfectly clear, but it'll be clear enough that you can make out details well enough, just with some fuzz.

HiMock has that squat statureand those stumpy legs/arms. Tryon 3 (and thus the vanilla ZZ) on the other hand still has the standard gundam proportions, it's just a little beefier than most other MC Gundams. Full Armor ZZ on the other hand is most certainly thicc however.

They'd make a largely scratch-built kit I want to make 100X simpler to do, I want to enter it into the THICCBUILD but if I don't use simple, easy to implement joints I'll probably just get lazy and do a Dom or something.

I thought it was fairly straightforward reasoning.

Let's use the OG Gundam as a basis for what would be considered "normal" proportions. Tryon 3 in comparison has more of a bodybuilder look to it than a thicc look. The only thicc areas to it compared to the original gundam are the legs. Something like the Virtue on the other hand is more in-line with being "Thicc" (Although that comes with the virtue (hue) of having another Gundam underneath all that armor)

>>15618354
That seems a little silly, since it's totally possible to take any kit and make it sufficiently thicc with enough armor/plaplate/sculpting
>>
>>15618424

If nothing else, I feel like they are really easy to use. I have only used them with their brand primer so far but I have to try it with a proper black base as well.

>>
>>15618441
I think the problem here is that "thick" or "thicc" isn't a very well defined term. It's kind of a newer concept that hasn't cemented itself in everyone's mind yet. Everyone can look at the Gusion or The O and say "Dayum, yeah that's thick", but they don't know how far that term extends and what exactly it envelops.

I think maybe you should use some other terms to reduce confusion (and butthurt) over the next 2 months. For instance, broad and stout are really good descriptors here.

Do you check your email?

I do not, some of those cups (the red one and the one with the paint on the left) are the ones I use to store stuff like thinner/cleaner in so that I can quickly dip a Q-tip or something when I need them handy.

Also most of those cups are actually clean on the INSIDE and those that are clean are the ones I use to mix paint in.

I've never had anything "contaminated" so far.

I've had no issue with the "thicc" build thus far but the more you "explain" what does and doesn't count the more you're making butthurt anon look right about it being vauge and ill defined. The definition is terrible and arbitrary.

How are the Tryon 3 and ZZ not "thick" (I'm getting fucking sick of saying "thicc" it IS a stupid meme...), because they " has more of a bodybuilder look to it than a thicc look?" Please, at least 5 of your examples in >>15618554 have the exact same proportions and can be described exactly the same way. What makes them ANY different at all?

Anon was right, thicc was a terrible idea.

This debate over what does and doesn't count comes up at the start of nearly every group build on here and /toy/ (Especially anything that uses the word "grunt"). Even during something as specific as the graze group build we ended up stretching the definition to include grimgerde and reganlaze. And the one anon is the one organizing everything and paying for the prizes in the end so he makes the rules.

If you want to bitch then either don't enter or make your own group build with a theme you wanted. No one is stopping you from doing either one.

I always thought /m/ had a solid definition of what was considered thick and what wasn't. I mean skinny shit like most 00 suits and IBO Gundams asides from the Gusion should be obvious as to what THICC isn't, and I used the RX-78 as an example of not THICC since most mobile suits share a similar build. It's mostly Zeon stuff that you see being THICCposted asides from stuff like The O or the Rick Dias. I was trying to get a little bit of every modern HG line with that image, and I was using the Full Glansa as an example of a Full-Armored gundam that would be considered fine, although in hindsight I probably should've used the Baqto instead for AGE.

I'll leave it up to you guys if you want to decide what's THICC and what isn't. It's better for yourself to look at a kit and go "Hey, would this fit in with the rest of the group build?" rather than to have people arguing over what's thick and what's not for the next two months. I'll rescind my prior comments about the ZZ/Tryon too, since they're pretty cool suits and are reasonably bulkier compared to most main gundams. I'd actually like to see what people would do with it if it's not just a straight build/repaint.

THICC is a pretty dumb meme too but I do love heavily armored suits so I'm okay with this group build anyways

You're going to need to hollow out the wrists and fit a polycap in there before using the builders parts hands. Not overly difficult, but depending on which polycap you use you may need to trim it down a bit.

But yeah, the 90s polycap hands are terrible. You can't even really paint them as it just scratches off at the drop of a hat.

Different anon here. More participation would be nice...but how many people voted on this poll? Wasn't it close to 200? How many people entered the last build? 16.

I almost want to suggest the poll going by email so only participants vote for the next build. And then anyone in the thread can enter.
>>
>>15619103
And more than 40 of those votes were for thick build, but at the end of the day only about a dozen will probably enter.

People just like having a say in what they see posted in the threads and want to be included I think. They really should give kitbashing a try though. With modern kits its especially easy to swap parts around with a little research prior to buying kits.

The way strawpoll works is it counts each vote for each option, so it's 200+ votes spread across the 6 options that were on the poll.

Conversely on the last two google polls I did while we were also poling for the next group build I got somewhere between 46-53 voters, so that's probably a more reasonable account for how many people voted in the strawpoll

Participation seems to be exclusive, honestly. I see posts about how people who don't make full customs don't have the right to post. A lot of people that lurk this thread don't own air brushes I imagine. I try my best to put effort into my kits with detailing painting, decals, and what not, but there are a lot of people that say snapfits shouldn't even be in this thread. You can't have more participation and also have it be Gunpla Expo level customization and workmanship.
>>
>>15619155
From my experiance most people who complain about snapfitters tend to not do much more than snapfitting themselves.

ENTITLED snapfitters are a different story though.
>>
>>15619155
No fuck that. No where has Groupbuild Dude said that only customs are accepted. I'm pretty sure there were 5 kits last build that weren't customized beyond paint. Maybe 4, I'm not sure.

Honestly, so long as it's denubbed and painted to any degree that doesn't qualify as trolling, I welcome anything. Rattlecans are good if you prep them, and a decent airbrush runs about 50 USD, I believe. And you can get a compressor from the hardware store for 20.

That actually makes me think a straight build would be neat. No paint, just denubbed and sanded like Kawaguchi teaches.
>>
>>15619210

i'm wondering about HLJ sales, in order to get a Zeta and put it on the warehouse to wait so I can even split the price of the shipping.
I'm an eurofag, so it would be like 3010 yen with shipping included, something like 24€.
On Amazon the model is something like 33€ with prime, and it would arrive in 5-7 days.
Sincerely speaking, I don't mind about waiting, 'cause of my backlog and my other activities, and the offer sounds convenient if you don't care about time (you can wait even for one month for stuff to arrive, or even more)
The main problem is that I'm not completely convinced about the item, so I'm asking the zetafags in this thread and the model owners, what do you think of the RG Zeta, is it worth buying afterall?

A lot of P Bandai are more than a simple recolor. And I don't see why wanting more part separation is a bad thing. It benefits snapfags and actual modelers. Not every kit has to be a shitty russian tank kit with no color separation and lots of flash. Model kit technology advancing is a good thing, and of course people will expect the modern standard.

I will agree with you 100% on articulation though. A kit can be an absolute brick for all I care as long as it looks glorious. Fuck all the guys shitting on MG The O and RE100 Nightingale.

kit quality is judged on the merit of what comes in the box, not for the potential on what you can make with it after kitbashing. you see people bitch about plated kits (especially non-undergated ones) when those are released, though by the same merits anyone could just strip it and repaint it themselves no problem.

builder skill does not indicate kit quality.
