***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

== THICK MS GROUPBUILD ==

Build a kit of your choice that's heavily armored, and thick in the thighs/arms/torso/general area. Examples include:
>Dom + Dom Variants
>The O
>Virtue/Seravee Gundams
>Gusion/Man Rodis
>Full Armor gundams (If they're heavily armored, and not guns strapped everywhere like the FA Unicorn)

Non-Bandai kits are allowed, so feel free to whip out a Frame Arms kit or something and work with that as long as you make it thicc as fuck.

Start Date: 6/15
End Date: 8/31

GroupBuild Dude, I would like to personally define thicc as at least 3/4ths the width of the HG Barbatos' mace.

It wasn't about legitimacy, some autist was throwing a fit about the kit because while the ms mode is decent it doesn't really work in the drone mode correctly and lacks another gimmick or two. He started running his mouth off about other third party and bootleg kits and proved he didn't know shit.

But yeah, yesterday was a spergfest for both the threads.
>>
>>15620749
Regular gundam markers aren't for panel lining, the tips are too thick. You're pretty much just going to smear silver on the parts all along the panel.
>>
>>15620776
I bet it will happen again.

You can paint all over the damn thing like a retarded monkey on drugs, you just need to clean it up with paint thinner or cotton swabs and it'd look decent.
>>
Do any of you guys use gloves when building gunpla?
I use cheap latex gloves in order to keep the pieces fingerprint free, plus it makes it easier to hole the pieces; however I want to move onto a more permanent solution as I go through gloves pretty quickly.

Any recommendations?
>>
>>15620789
Such is life on 4chan.
>>
>>15620749
Just use black panel lining markers bro. They're not so much "black" as they're an inky dark blue. It'll show up and look much better than whatever shitshow you're going to make with the silver gundam markers
>>
>>15620838
I was wondering about this as well.
I have a seriously bad case of hyperhydrosis so if I just hold a piece it'll get marked with heavy sweaty fingerprints or if it's in my hand it'll more or less get drenched and ruin or erase any panel lining. I just have to handkerchiefs I hold all my pieces with but I'm curious about other easier methods like gloves.

What are some goods and relatively cheap evangelion models? I did some digging, but apparently the older (1995+) kits have rubber issues. The fact that they're all basically named the same doesn't help either.

I know they're cheap SD kits but I really wish they stepped up their colour game on the weapons.
I was surprised to see they provided blue wrap-around stickers for the 0-Raiser's wings yet nothing for the GN-Rifle, the rifle tips could have been molded in white since that's the only colour they are. I'll probably use a white Gundam Marker on them tomorrow.

Fun build though, I've got SD Banshee Norn and FA Unicorn to do next. Also a Real-Grenade Zeta

I snooped around lately and I saw clearly, that a couple of the hobby shops in town are getting supplied their gunpla from Bluefin, via UPS.

The shipping crates clearly are stamped with Bluefin as the sender.

Despite what Derringer says, this is what's happening, and with the combination of UPS shipping, and shipping from the USA, it's no wonder Canada experiences 300% price hike for gunpla. It's insane.

Isn't it high time Bluefin sets up a Canadian branch or operation so they can get directly from Japan instead of middlemanning from the USA?

Why are you saving all of your boxes? Sounds like a massive waste of space to me. Which reminds me, I should get rid of a bunch of manuals.
>>
>>15621478
Feels wrong to throw them away, especially considering I'll need boxes to store gundams in once every surface in my house has been filled up.
>>
>>15621483

I save my PG unicorn box for that reason (it has a plastic handle so I figure it could be useful at some point), and a few to help organize larger painting projects, but I don't see the point of saving them if you have to flatten them anyway.

Remember that we're talking about model kits, not figures. There's nothing wrong with getting rid of the packaging, so I'd suggest you get over that feeling and save yourself some space.
>>
>>15621483
I keep a strip from the side of the box.
I'm planning on making a collage with them at some point.
>>
>>15621515
I usually cut the side strips off and keep the tops in a big plastic storage file, because I like the pictures. I could just download the images online but it's a different feeling I can't explain having something physical.

A "looks suspiciously like a sex toy" static grass applicator and some static grass packets bundled together. I'm sick of trying to make a diorama or base and it ends up looking like part of a golf course.

Spent a few days doing research on them and different companies (Apparently a lot of underpowered Chinese shit out there), looked into how much it would cost to make my own (Not much less and for a lot more effort involved it turns out), and grabbed a brand that had good reviews and good looking examples.

I took a bench grinder and shaved down a tiny but nice nipper I found in a old tackle box. I made the cutters a lot more narrow to help get into cramped runners easier

I believe being able to cut the gate where it connects to the runner is more important then getting a clean cut. If its going to be seen and you don't paint the kit you must avoid stressing the plastic. Filing and sanding a nib is way easier then trying to get a stress mark out of dark blue plastic

Those shoulders are a tactical mistake. If it were used in a real battle and there was an enemy MS capable enough of getting close to it, it could theoretically use those handles on the shoulder to tear off those entire arms. Specially when grabbed from behind.

Just sayin' from an engineer's standpoint.

What color would make sense for paint chips? is there any "canon" on this area (as in what would be directly beneath the paint), or should I just look at real life examples?

I want to make use of a chipping medium so I need to know what to use beneath my base coat. I could use a rust color but I'm doing a desert based color scheme so I'm not sure if that would make sense considering the environment.

In the Universal Century canon, mobile suits used titanium alloys with fancy names like Luna Titanium, Gundarium Alpha/Beta/Gamma. Titanium oxide is white (it's the pigment used in white wall paint), but matte white looks like gunpla plastic. So idk. Maybe that's why you only see modellers do burn-marks. You could use rust colors but the idea of 20 meter robots made out of (heavy-as-fuck) steel is kinda dumb. Anyway it's all made up fiction so meh, who cares.

I'm fine with pretending that they could rust like steel would, but seeing as rust would be somewhat limited (but not nonexistant) in a desert environment I wonder what color they would have by default. Can't go wrong with the typical inner frame grey, I guess.

I'm not so sure about using actual metallic paint and then doing the chipping medium/basecoat over that.
>>
>>15623022

Never mind that last sentence, I'm reading the weathering magazine volume about chipping and they did it using an alclad metallic. Guess I can choose between rust and actual metal.

>>
>>15623163

it's for the group build so I guess it could just add to the weight" of it.

Actually I'm considering doing two layers of chipping so at one point I would have a rust + steel covered piece and then covering that with the base coat. I could motivate the rust by the age of the mobile suit despite it being desert colors.

Well... if you look at it from scienific point of view. Gundanium is a alloy of Lunar titanium and electrically neutra iron

The raw titanium has a blueish color to it and raw Iron is a light gray.

Mixing them would give you a very dullish gray blue and it wouldn't be shiny.

As for suits made with Hardened steel that's just a dark or lighter gray. It can be a rainbow of colors though if it's heated but that would be hard to pull off on a model.

Just got done snapping the new HGUC Zeta. It's a pretty nice kit. The pseudo inner frame is nice and the articulation is pretty good. Better than most HGs. The shoulders in particular are MG levels of articulated. There were some issues though. The wing binders however are kinda lacking. They only move really in one direction and you can't change the angle of them reletive to the rest of the MS. The red parts on the wings are stickers and honestly it's not really acceptable. With the detail on the rest of the kit there is no reason they shouldn't have been separate red peices. I'm gonna have to strip the stickers off and paint them. I haven't transformed it yet so we'll see how well that works.

It's basically an upscaled 144. All it has is basic articulation. Doesn't transform like the actual MS despite being a 1/100 scale in these modern times where bootlegs are already pretty good. Giant gun doesn't transform into a big hand either like it's supposed to. The manipulator arm in the dick only opens about 35 - 45 degrees and has no articultation aside from that, making it useless and pointless. The only thing they got right was how the legs fold.

The weather masters are quite useful. However, unless you want an extremely strong effect you should start slow and small and work the area outward.

Also Snow in set B is kinda useless for gunpla and A is all kind of redundant.

Snow is useless mostly because its used for highlighting terrain and such. As snow would actually kind glob and stick to something instead of just being flat or as an edge highlight its kind bunk for gunpla. Everything in set A kinda fills the same purpose and doesn't look radically different.

D overtop of metallics can give a very cool heatstain effect and C is really good for making shit look old and busted.

What are they, exactly? Pastels? Any point in getting them if I already have washes/oils/pigments?
>>
>>15624455
>>
>>15624568

They are very similar to pastels. Though a little more geared toward being used on plastics. They are extremely easy to blend though which makes them very useful after the fact and for getting smooth application. Something that with paint would take a long time any many layers to get nice gradients.

They serve a purpose but if you are already fine with doing weathering with washes/oils/pigments then I would suggest just doing that.

Personally I like them because they have a real gritty look to them (because it is powder consistency) that a wash just doesn't look quite the same as.

Obviously though it depends on your skill level and application. If you are good enough you can make anything work. It's just a matter of time investment.

Supportive =/= hugbox. Learn how to be a normal goddamn human being already.

It's not actually that much bigger than a regular battleship and the Dendrobium is not much smaller than the Albion.

A 1/100 would probably be the size of an average bedroom but I think a 1/144 is feasible if you were gonna set up a massive diorama at a convention or something.

If past pre-owned, damaged packaging order from AmiAmi and Mandarake are something to go by, it'll probably have the glue holding the box flaps together gone, or one of the corners are crushed.

Or one bag has been opened.

>>
>>15627463
I'm pretty sure one of them is a reborns gundam and that one will pave the way for an HGAD 00 series gunpla.
>>
>>15627523
There's nothing wrong or outdated about the hg reborns though. And iirc that was the booth for the new buildfighters stuff. The one on the far left is very blatantly a barzam as well, especially from the different angled pics of it (upside down triangle body outline, big prominent crotch, headfin).

>>
>>15626805
Man at least with the Build MK2 they gave you clear beam saber parts
>>
>>15627536
The hguc zaku III was one of the first several hguc and is so outdated that it doesn't even come with beam saber handles at all. Just the toothpicks and a shallowly molded detail on the underside of the front skirts (Where the sabers are stored). I don't think the TA zaku III has any new parts at all. The main body is from the mashymre custom, the backpack from the original, and the rifle is from that blue geara doga.

155's siphon assembly wastes paint just trying to reach the straw and overcome the pressure.

Is the Hime Brain pretty decent for an old HG? Been playing and loving the hell out of Super Robot Wars J, and just got her, and really love the look, and abilities of it in the game.
>>
>>15628295
Just looking at it, it looks pretty shitty to be honest. Like a really stiff looking model, that shot isn't doing it any justice. But seriously though, anon. If you like the mecha and there's nothing else, fucking do it anyway because that's all you'll get probably. I got the 1/144 Turn X before we got the MG and I didn't care despite the kit being old because I loved the mecha.
