Ghost had a new writer to Toei's weekly toku. He kind of stumbles in the beginning and attempts to write victim of the week-style stories in 1 episode, but after Specter's debut he gets a better handling on it. The protagonist is kind of cliche, but nothing too bad. The series seemed middle of the road at this point.

The show actually falls apart in episodes 30+, since the main writer was out of the show for months to write the movie (he always seemed to be kind of slow, taking two episodes break between his own sets of two episodes), which brought the pacing down to a crawl since the secondary writers mostly wrote set up for a long time before the final arc started. The issue was compounded though because at that point of the series the main villains were the robot-like Ganmizer, which didn't have proper individual personalities, and Adel, who was the weakest main villain up to that point of Ghost. I think it wouldn't have been nearly as bad if the focus still were on random Ganma referencing historical people. Anyway, then the show just drags on until the final arc, when the main writer returns to finish the story (the only thing he writes in the middle of this period is an arc that's basically a movie commercial), which ends up feeling rushed and unsatisfying. It doesn't help that in these last 20 or so episodes Takeru becomes the only one allowed to defeat the enemies, with Specter and Necrom only allowed to defeat grunts and recycled suits, and jobbing to every new suit before Takeru blows them up once at least.

That can't be helped. Honestly, G3 is a very low tier suit. The only real remarkable thing about it is its impressive durability, which leads one to question just what it's made out of. The general capabilities of the suit aside, whatever that material is is pretty amazing. Remember, most Riders can punch through solid steel, so the fact that Gills can't just tear that shit apart is something else.
