Got the Lost Galaxy dvd yesterday. It gets a lot better once Scorpius dies, but the rangers don't have much personality. The season belongs to the villains this season anyways.

Help me out here, /prg/. I'm trying to come up with my own Ranger team. I know that I want there to be a Black Raven Ranger on the team.Which means the motif of the team would be based around animals or birds. Problem is I'm basically stuck and I'm not sure what I want the other Rangers to be (though I am thinking having the Yellow Ranger's animal be a cheetah).

Also the Red Ranger would be female. I don't know if that would make any difference but I just feel like that's worth noting for some reason.

Otherwise, i'd suggest making the other rangers respective animals be centered around ones associated with predators or hunters (wolf, fox, snake, etc.).

People give too much credit to the dinosaur motif.
These kind of things aren't sucessful because of themselves in comparison with later seasons, they're sucessful for being the first. Jetman would have worked as well. Or any season really.

The Gold Ranger saga is pretty disappointing, and the behind the scenes kinda makes it somber. Though Jason's back.

Lost Galaxy had a lot of bland rangers. They had a lot more personality in the first episode, but its never really used. Though I think theres a lot more american footage as well. Probably 2nd if RPM is first.

Wild Force didn't have much to offer as compared last seasons. Really sticks out in the stream.

SPD took a lot of odd turns. Like, SWAT had them not get along with each other at all. Even though Reflections says otherwise.

Mack's android storyline is ok in Overdrive, though its not enough to make it a plus.

Poor acting really makes Samurai almost unwatchable. Its clear that they retain the characterization from the sentai, but is told in a terrible way. Production is so bad that theres proof they used TVN's subs for it.

Overall, I'd say its pretty decent.

So, what does /m/ think about the Power Rangers boom studios Comics? Do you think they respect the source or going way to far?

I know they're made by different people, but it's so jarring that there's only one season's worth of material between a Ranger Blue episode where Flynn figures out what the fuck his life is while saving people from a robot apocalypse with his broken down bus, and an episode where the Samurai Rangers have to stop Octoroo's plan to destroy a bunch of toys so kids will cry.

It went to shit with the second arc. Its mostly the writer putting fanservice and his oc suits with the plot being an excuse around them. Also, its all about "tommy was evil, remember" which was sort of acceptable in the first arc but its a drag now. Not to mention mos t happens in a parallel universe so its ultimately inconsequential. Tommy isnt evil, he was brainwashed, there's no inner darkness to overcome at all. Its ridiculous people insist on this when the franchise had karone, literally a ranger that used to be the freaking main villain.
As for how much it respects the source material, billy and trini are on point with the characterization but that's it. Technilogy makes it impossible to fit with the show's timeline anyways.

Pink pretended to be on continuity and the writer promised a big twist that was implied on the show. Said twist didnt come and, again, technology makes it impossible to match the show's continuity(unless you come from bendis's timeline where we all had smartphones and 'googled' things in the 90s). Also, mostly a fanservice excuse and its mostly a serious rtrrad of kim's season 3 arc.

i don't understand why that's a bad thing. even as a kid I always thought he was the least interesting part of the show. honestly, he'd have been better off in Hayley's role with someone else taking the black ranger powers.

like, i get that AbareBlack doesn't have a whole lot of screen time and they had to work around that, but in DT it doesn't seem like a downside. the main three, plus Trent's story are more than enough to keep me watching.

A large number of Rangers likely was done exactly for overseas audiences, since action figures are a big part of Power Rangers' toyline. That's why they have to do stuff like zord armor and toyline-exclusive Rangers. Actually adding more Rangers to the show with fighting footage is a big boom for BoA, while it adds very little to Japan, since action figures are irrelevant, so they're just collectibles and characters that give some personality to the mecha components as far as the toyline goes.

The basic robot actually seems kind of similar to some toys based on the new movie (which include the rangers inside spheres), so it was likely meant to be some attempt at synergy.

As for the Gold Ranger. The producers didn't think a gay man should be a superhero, so Billy got screwed over for the role. Everyone was confused to why he was never the Gold Ranger. It gets worse given the explanation was from an explosion that ruined his molecules(he even describes it like banging 2 magnets of the same poles together; a common homophobic remark). Billy walked out in the middle of "King for a Day",

I think some writers were opting for Billy to be the Gold Ranger, later episodes show it. The explanation for what Billy was doing during that arc was going to be the Turbo powers, but it was never said onscreen. Also some writers in later seasons (like Judd Lynn and Doug Sloan) wanted Billy to come back, so I don't think they care about his sexuality.

There was also a rumor about tieing VR Troopers in Power Rangers, but its mostly false. As for Trey, I think they wanted an excuse to use triplets in something.

IIRC, the audition scripts for Samurai used dialogue pulled straight from TVN's Shinkenger subs.

On a related note, there was a trailer for the Super Megaforce toyline (that was only for retailer's and marketer's eyes) that blatantly used footage from Gokaiger with TVN subs, and even a SHT bumper featuring Kamen Rider Wizard.

Pitches like this happen all the time in show biz. Some amount of budget is allocated all for someone to say yes or no.

True. Obviously I'm just guessing, but I'm sure there's some special clause for movies in their contract. Still, it seemed like Disney attempting to make a cartoon was a major factor in them selling the license back to Saban Entertainment.

Of course, rumors also say Disney execs wanted nothing to do with the brand because they didn't have full control over it, and the cartoon dispute was the exact excuse they needed to jump ship. I guess it depends on who you believe.

Kyuranger initial roster already doubles the usual sentai roster. Heck, if we count RyuCommander as the sixth there's 10 other rangers so the same as 5 mains + 5 extras, you would only be missing one figure(powered up sixth, and that's if they don't use DracoViolet suit and/or Pegasus red to replace it) so it evens out.

Also, if its true BoA helped with the design they probably agred with exposing the cockpits.
