***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

**MELEE GROUP BUILD**

Build/paint a robot with a loadout focused on melee combat! Anything from shields to swords to lances to axes to bare fists is fair game. There's no room for ranged weaponry here, however, so anything resembling a rifle, Rocket Launcher, cannon, pistol, or any other ranged weapon is a no-go (Small ranged weapons that are built into the kit itself like head vulcans are ok, however).

More clarification here:
>If the body part has a built-in ranged weapon (head/chest vulcans, claw beams, etc), then that's fine. If it's a separate part like the Alex's arm vulcans it's best to leave those off.
>Melee weapons with in-universe ranged capabilities (Like the Kimaris's lance or the Gyan's shield) are fair game too.
>Any scale and any brand is fair game here, you're not limited to just using Gundams this time around.

Disaster, the paint was not fully cured before I put on the tape in order to paint the fine lines on. Upon removing the tape, the pain pulled off with it in some spots like tissue. Also I had some bleed in in other spots.

Im not 100% sure yet. Outside of some left over dry rubs from the tallgeese and/or zaku, I don't think I have anything like that. I think I'll finish getting it built before I tack anything else on. That stuff is just what I knew I wanted regardless of anything else.

I've heard it's basically a Barbados 1/100 but with Bael accessories. They're the same shade of white, but with blue accents instead of yellow and red. Also, the blue on the V fin is a sticker on either end.

In other news, my sister painted some bearguys as a present for my girlfriend. She did okay aside from not really using any sort of proper technique.

Why don't you panel line as you go, when the pieces are smaller and more manageable?

Ehhh it's a habit. Also, I tend to get all the dust and stuff from sanding/filing everywhere, and I'm always afraid of getting it into places I'm going to panel line, so i just finish the kit, brush it off with a lens brush, and panel line afterwards. It also makes the build go by faster. I'm already a slow builder because of my work schedule, so if I lined as I went, it's be a glacial pace.

But that's a good suggestion. I'll try it on my next kit and see how I like it.

Have finger guns since I don't have the weapons completed.

It's not a bad thing. I have the 6th form and like it a lot. Basically all the Barbados kits have had the exact same skeleton and different armor and weapons. It's a decent skeleton, and the other stuff is interchangeable between all of the Gundams and some of the grunt suits like the grazes and shidens.

That's what I've kinda liked about the IBO stuff so far. I can parts swap between my Schwalbe, Vidar, and Barbados of I ever wanted to kitbash and/or custom build something with very little modification to the parts needed.

TL;DR : it's not a bad thing. Pick any of the IBO kits you like, and you probably won't be disappointed. I need to get a Barbados Lupus and a Gusion rebake. Really wish there was a Full City 1/100.

What are some good colours that are close to black but not quite as dark? I painted a kit using flat black and in decent lighting it looks good but in worse lighting or when I take photos of it it's a tad too dark.

I have already tried a couple alternatives, like vallejo black gray or vallejo dark prussian blue but they are slightly too gray and blue respectively.

Last groupbuild I threw that on there just to 1) Make sure you guys didn't just grab something off google/twitter/etc and claim it as yours and 2) Show that it's something you made in the timeframe of the build. Me forgetting to put it on the new copypasta was my bad.

It's less of an issue here since there probably won't be a prize this time around, so if you want to just throw in a timestamp with your model that says "sup /m/ 04/XX/17 or whatever that's fine in my book. If you wanna make a new entry that's fine too.

I think it's an AE Zeta with a GM Custom head. Bandai's holding some sort of themed contest, where entrants build "Mass Production" (versions of) suits, or something from IBO. At least I think that's the gist of it; just ran the page through Google translate.

The grand prize for both categories is an airbrush set, and there are fifty secondary prizes in both categories to give away, too.

So I saw this at a local anime store I was in and was tempted to buy it. Its a fun looking kit, I don't actually own any legit Gundam units yet, and that visor looks sweet. But at the same time, I don't know what this unit is or what its from. Is there any info to go on so I know what it is and what missions it was used for specifically? It looks like it just has the beam saber and I think thats a conventional machine gun, so I can't imagine it was highly specialized. And before anyone asks, yes I went to the wiki but it doesnt really have much to say.
>>
>>15406446
>But at the same time, I don't know what this unit is or what its from. Is there any info to go on so I know what it is and what missions it was used for specifically?
There isn't any. It's essentially a MSV RX-78 suit. Otherwise from what little has been said it's an amphibious mobile suit with unnecessary space maneuverability removed in favor of ground and aquatic movability.

From what I remember of anon translating the manual a good while back, it was essentially supposed to be a ground gundam/gm version of the rx-78-1, used to gather ms combat data for the eventual gm line like they were. But when the -1 got destroyed at side 7 the plan was scrapped.

The entire MSD line is similar to this, one off prototypes or ms that never got passed the planning stage as the idea is that it's the EF going through ms documents after the war or something.

The reason Origin is putting out so many new designs with very little to no lore behind them and no appearance in series is because the only ms to really appear in the flashback arc they're animating are guncannon, guntank, and a few early zaku family ms. Basically like the original msv line back in the 80s they just wanted more kits to sell so they pumped out some additional designs with minimal backstory behind them.

So my attempt at modding painting for the zaku contest was mostly a train wreck. Due to some disastrous events and taking a little too much time to get too little done parts went missing and the paint was ruined in some spots. I had bought some extra thin painters tape from a supply store to help do the gold lines and when it came time to take it off it just ripped the paint with it like tissue paper. There wasn't much for me to do other than hastily patch it up.

Still, here are some results.

Any tips on what to do here to paint this piece? I need to get rid of those seam lines, but the yellow fangs at the front are not detachable without separating the piece.

Do I just have to find some way to mask the piece perfectly? Or do I paint the pieces separately and leave that area and fix it after I've painted the rest?

What method are you using. I couldn't sand for shit, so I just use a knife to shave them off. Its a tad noticeable if you dont paint and are looking for it, but not nearly as bad as nubs. And if you paint the kit, you can see it at all.

Tamiya grey primer and tamiya black spray paint. Details done in tamiya acrylics with a brush. The culprit was likely not letting the paint fully cure since I was rushing and applying multiple layers in one hour intervals.

I still feel the temptation to go back in the next few days and redo the goddamn shoulder, it was supposed to be so nice and it came out like this. It's hard to even look at. You can see every spot the paint ripped off from texture alone.

>>15406700
I just wanted to do a fancy black tristar with some gold instead of white. Yes, I am horrible at thinning paint. I get very impatient.
>>
>>15406708
Yeah best thing would be to paint what cant be removed and masked off. Then fill the seam and paint the rest.

Here's a head-on shot. Only problem I have with this kit is the awful seamline on the machine gun. For a 2017 kit that's pretty lame. I don't have putty myself, and the plastic is a different kind than found in other kits, it is much softer. You absolutely could just do a straight build if you don't care about articulation and want to paint and glue something together the old fashioned way. I only suggested otherwise because I know a lot of peeps on here are quite finicky about their articulations!

The first time I tried to panel line looked like this and then I never tried again. Guess you really need a "gundam marker" to do it.
>>
>>15410299
You don't "need" gundam markers, you just need to not be terminally retarded.

All you have to do is gently wipe the excess off, a fucking eraser will work with most markers if not a cotton swab.

You can just slop that shit on like a crack addled monkey and as long as you wipe it gently so only the ink/paint in the recessed groove remains it'll look like you're a goddamn pro with a surgeon's steady hands.

>>
>>15412442
I just noticed... This is the Vual, but the chest, arms, legs, groin and even parts of the face are from the Astaroth Origin.
What's up with that?
The only thing that doesn't seem like it came from the Astaroth is the right shoulder, that shield part and that faceplate thing it's got.
>>
>>15412525
Its the lore to it, the family who owned astaroth origin sold its parts cuz they where going through hard times. Thats why the new astaroth looks so different
>>
>>15412525
I think that's the point, if I recall correctly the Vual has parts of the astaroth origin, because in the manga the astaroth origin was stripped of all its armor, that's why there are two different astartoths.
>>
>>15412525
iirc in the manga, astaroth origin had to sell its armor, only leaving the frame. thats why astaroth looks the way it is and vual has some of its armor

i hope gyoubu never leaves gundam, i want to see more designs from him
>>
>>15412533
>>15412534
>>15412535
Ohh, so that's what happened. I never read the manga so I always assumed the reason why the Astaroth looked the way it did was just because it got heavily updated and modified like the Kimaris and Barbatos did throughout the series.

Kinda lame though that Vual is barely the Vual now. I kinda want it just because I love all the Gundam designs in IBO universe, but I don't see much of a point of getting the Vual if it's like 80% Astaroth since I already have that kit.
I wonder if they'll ever make an Origin version like they did for the Astaroth.
