Animation was still eh, but it was pretty hype to watch those two maul each other and cause collateral damage. An actual fight that gripped me compared to those curbstomps we see from Mika where they all panic about the rat or Ein v Mika. A fight where it barely got interrupted with speeches or plot or close saves and where the guys had at least had a smaller skill gap.

It's clear what Gaelio wanted from McGillis now. He wanted to prove to McGillis that it was a mistake to toss his friends under the bus because a weakling like Gaelio only won because Ein was with him.

It's not just vengeance, it's an ideological vengeance to crush what McGillis believed in and what he did in pursuit of those beliefs. It was a pretty good battle all in all and the writing is solid here. It's like the producers and writers got to the end of the series and said "now let's actually make it good."

Just hype for Mika and the Barbatos, and also to kickstart McGillis's coup after he creamed himself watching Mika go crazy with power.

Also, I find it ironic that McGillis believed Agnika was the symbol of strength when Agnika was probably good friends on the other 71 gundam pilots and relied on them to hunt the Hashmals.

We saw that even with Mika giving everything to Barbatos it wasn't good enough to actually come out clean from that Hashmal fight, he got wrecked. And Barbatos Lupus is an upgrade over the original form 4, which is a replica of the Calamity War version.

Meaning unless those 72 gundam pilots were all god-like and made Mika look like a raging toddler they would've gotten rekt every single time they fought a MA.

What's more likely is that they hunted as a pack, which explains the vastly different equipment and stats on the Gundams. Flauros and Gusion Rebake (which is supposedly a mix of new and Calamity war design) are both heavy hitters but not at all fast. Kimaris has a bunch of equipment packs, including needforspeed and heavy hitter with good defense.

It also explains why they seemingly didn't find a pilot in Flauros. Flauros's pilot was rescued by his friends and let his Gundam crater with the Hashmal.

In fact, the seven stars were probably Agnika's hunting buddies or squadmates. The fact that they started families suggests to me that they didn't even give everything to their Gundams, so Mika-like performance against Hashmal is impossible, unless their wives were also insane stalker-types like Atra, which sounds outlandish.

Also, the Hashmal that Mika fought had been sitting in the ground for hundreds of years. It probably wasn't at peak performance. Even Barbatos got some maintenance while in storage and Flauros was restored to pristine condition before being used.

I don't believe for a second that Agnika was what McGillis thought he was. And I doubt he was like Mika, who fights on his own most of the time.
