The show has nothing really interesting left.

I guess Gali wants to fight Mika cause of Ein, but those two have interacted maybe 4 times throughout both seasons. Now it's just two sides which will fight cause....reasons.

The Only good thing is watching people get mad that it isn't an edgy everyone dies ending.

See this is the main issue with IBO

Not the bad animation, not bland characters but that nothing ever goes anywhere. The show just potters round everywhere going OOOOH what is this guy going to do, the answer is fuck all. Maybe they will fight but as a character fuck all happens with them.

Even when a character does achieve something it ends up being pointless. I got muh Bael! and? Muh Bael *dies having achieved nothing*. We spent all season 1 building up McGillis, half of season 2 him being sneaky and then he finally reveals his goal and it is nothing and it leads to no real resolution. We don't even know if he really wanted rid of corruption, his character never progressed passed that point.

Look at the entire plot of the series instead of just recent happenings. The show started with these orphans trying to further their existence and McGillis wanting to overthrow the corruption. Now the show is about to end. The orphans have lost basically everybody important. Who's left? Mika, a guy who literally never gave a shit about anything except "I do whatever Orga tells me?" He is literally a tool with no brains. Akihiro, the man who has basically lost everything in his life before it could even be developed into anything actually meaningful for the audience?

The guy who was driving the orphans is dead. Everyone left is such a stupid shitter that after 50 episodes they don't even really have anything they're fighting for other than revenge. McGillis was completely humiliated and killed and he was the only one with higher ideals. Don't you guys get it? I don't even know what emotion I should be experiencing at this point.

Wihth regards to its world and the potentially compelling setting details that it has, IBO is great. The backstory's not terribly original, but it was the first time we'd had a post-apoc Gundam since X, even if Earth here is pretty fine all things considered. The mechs are fantastic, parts of the world are interesting, even some of the characters are conceptually outstanding.

And then we get to the actual writing, and the wordsmiths that decide that in this universe, ripe with potential stories, we spend an entire fucking season dithering about on an escort mission, and a further season which awkwardly builds up to a 'climax' that, depending on how next week goes, may not even matter, so we'd be back to square one.

Forget Destiny/00 fixes, IBO needs them more than ever.

I think McGillis overestimated his own abilities (though he was a terrific pilot) and bought into the Bael meme too hard.

His attempt at wholly subverting the world order did well initially, but he ultimately failed because he didn't kill/convert Gaelio when both he and Carta could have been easily molded into allies. Because of that, Rustal knew in advance McGillis was plotting something, and had time to prepare and dig his trenches.

He failed because he believed too hard in his ideals, and didn't have enough behind them to successfully overturn reality. The reality is that he couldn't beat GaliEin - a monster he created with his dickery - in a stand up fight even with Bael, which ultimately blunted his "stomp all over Rustal with Bael and Tekkadan" plan.

Has there ever been a mecha character who got completely taken apart and lost it all like McGillis?

He killed the only two people who liked him to change the system.
Then he became the system and couldn't change anything.
His only allies were retards.
His allies died or were gonna sell him out.
He was revealed to have no plan beyond "muh Bael."

People didn't follow Mcgillis just for having it, he already had a power base. No one went well I wouldn't follow you but now you have that one suit okay I will. Rustal isn't really corrupt so much as efficient at what he does, which is protecting the status quo and playing politics.

He plans accordingly, does his homework, and surrounds himself with competent underlings that he builds proper relationships with and (this is key) treats with respect. He's not some sieg-hiel-throwing Zeek, or jackbooted Titan, or genocidal Vegan, he's just a really adept tactician who happens to be in the employ of the establishment.

The man is all business, and it's clear to see why he has the respect of Beardman, Juli, and Iok. He gives Gali space to work out his issues and doesn't try to control him beyond reason. Gali returns that with respect for his command, and gratitude for the opportunity to avenge himself.

Rustal is the opposite of the idealogue: the professional. That's what makes him dangerous, but he's hardly corrupt insofar as he just happens to be chiefly responsible for defending those that may be corrupt.

It may also be worth mentioning that while Iznario was a pedophile and a shitbag, we don't know just how crooked and corrupt the rest of Gjallarhorn really are. We only have McGillis' word for it, and the presence of a few now-dead jackasses like Orlis from S1.

Mainly, really... the build ups don't have as good of a pay off as the filler scenes where the show pisses you off, then promises you next ep Mika will wreck their shit. When this happens, sure, ok, that was fun but over a season of this isn't that appealing. This end battle just... feel pointless by now and I don't believe any of the build ups will pay off with any point.
