MJOLNIR armor has piezoelectric motors. The Spartans are made tough enough to use the armor without being pulverized - in training they're shown a video of a regular marine trying to use the armor and it destroys his entire skeleton because it's so powerful.

The HRUNTING/YGGDRASIL was a step up and clearly modeled after the SST OVA armor.

Rank and fire marines I don't think ever get powered armor, but I think there's powered ODST armor after a certain point.

SST is the most significant work and introduced power armor to the mainstream.

Warhammer and Starcraft are SST derivatives. Powered Armored Human soldiers fighting space bugs and skinny humanoids ayys.
>>
>>15324129
Significant does not equate original, as I'm sure you knew before you even wrote your post.

Your lack of understanding of how prolific Smith's work in the 20s-onward, how it influenced writers like Heinlein who were 40s-onward, only shows your lack of historic sci-fi history.

If you hadn't bothered to try to warp what words meant, you would've seen there already was a point ripe for the picking: Starship Troopers was the first story that featured powered-armor as a primary element. The nuclear reactor power-suit was barely in the one book it appeared in.
>>
>>15322885
>Fallout

Absolutely the best
>>
>>15324129
... I just realized you would've had to have read the book to have known that last bit. That's my mistake, but still valid. Even disregarding that there's like 6-7 POV characters in that book, it's mostly a "getting too old to carry battleship hull" thing and barely featured.

Those ones are from Silent Storm, a turn-based shooter. They're called Panzerkleins. The setting is kinda weird though, because you can play through 90% of the game thinking it's just a common WW2 game, then suddenly POWER ARMOR. They sorta trivialize fighting against infantry.

MJOLNIR is power armor and only Spartans have the mental ability to wear it. It will kill anyone else because their reflexes aren't fast enough to control it properly. You try to salute, break your arm, and spasm yourself to death in pain. The "power" part is the undersuit, the "armor" part houses a reactor, shield generators, etc. ODST and Marines do not have power armor, but ODSTs have basically been replaced with Spartan 4s anyway.

Panzer cops are the shit, probably tied with pic related for my favorite power armor. I have a really specific sweet spot when it comes to power armor, and most aren't all that memorable to me but that Keroberos armor and Kakugo's Fortified Armor Shell for some reason just come off as really badass in a way that's not easy to find in any medium, really.

in the GitS Anime, almost everyone has a cyberbrain at least and a lot of people have prosthetic eyes too.

the original laughing man incident. the only people that saw the guy's actual face, were the elderly homeless people. Since they had no cybernetics.

Most people don't have cyberbrains. If you consider special forces, high security, and bankrolled terrorists as "everyone", then sure, they "almost all do".
>>
>>15327760
You imply that makes everything dirt cheap. What actually happens is people go thru the cyberization process, in whatever capacity they do it in, in a long drawn out process and its handled much in the "age gates" of our time with driver's licenses to adult hood status. It becomes a business like insurance or a 401k of its own that becomes another thing families or individuals save up for and center around their lives. It isn't quite like getting a facelift or tummy tuck (unless you've already cyberized) and then still requires rehabilitation.

It becomes a marketable enterprise, hence much of GitS political intrigue involving private companies defrauding people or manufacturing illegal goods, its a money making system just like any other. GitS is a MORE complex world than ours, they inherit their own baggage on top of our own.

And not everyone is cyberized at all. In a system above, only people with the time and money available to them or the necessity for their job would get extensive cyberization. The reason only 2 elderly homeless people at the incident is because it happened in a busy metropolitan city block full of people with money and the time to be shopping or doing business. Those people would be cyberized enough to have their eyes hacked real time. He was getting revenge on a company responsible for fraud AND manufacturing illegal goods AND manipulating the market.

Its probably an incredibly complex net of fuckery in the business side of cyberization. I doubt its easy or cheap for anyone involved. Profitable yes.

This is a misunderstanding that comes with abbreviation.

Power armor is not mecha - as in the word we use here to describe piloted machines with limbs that we also call giant robots (which is also not always correct since most mechs can't operate on their own)

At the same time power armor is mecha - as in the short word for mechanical used in japanese to classify things like giant robots, power armor, space ships etc. The word this board is named after in fact.

So power armor are both mecha and not mecha, depending on the context.
>>
>>15332201
I think you're just inserting what you feel mecha means. Most people equate mecha with robot, without all the adjectives or descriptors you threw in. Robots, in general.
Also, I think it's mech you were thinking of.
>>
>>15332201
>So power armor are both mecha and not mecha, depending on the context.

Its more like depends on who's talking, in general eastern (outside of Japan at least), mecha by modern depictions means anything robotics. Since for us, tanks, tractors, ships, etc. are already had their own things. And fuck, one of the early mecha animes had their robots remote controlled, much of the genres are compossed by directly piloted ones because it was more popular by fans.

The only one who blarbs about mecha must be about piloted robots are bloody western, thanks to their exposure to BTs and Gundams, and their wierd generalization.

As far as budget allotment goes, making power armor is own game mechanic (remember how lazy Beth is w actual scripting) meant they had to make it an all-game-long thing to make the effort worth it to themselves so, T45's old design stays in so the player gets handed some shitty power armor in the Early game, and the new look gets called the T-60 and breaks the fuck out of Canon with no attempts to reconcile, as usual. As a side effect making T-51 less advanced and not the pinnacle of pre-war armor. Bastards. Also then they made Enclave armor and Vertibirds pre-war tech too now because apparently the Enclave needs to become even more incompetent I guess.

Why do these designs always have big, clear "this is where you should shoot me" windows on the helmet?

If they're using a powered exoskeleton to increase load bearing capacity, they should be able to carry 7.62-proof plates over the most vital areas, make the helmet cover the head completely, put little cameras on the outside, have crappy, compact VR goggles inside, and put some of the armor on a hinged joint so they can see with their bare eyes if necessary.

People figured this out hundreds of years ago, why are these designs trying to use glorified 20th century partial helmets?

The future will be HEAVY AS FUCK
>>
>>15337127
All your descriptions would be costly and made the soldier too sluggish, also add more maintenance nightmare.

Also, if you can't cover your vitals and exposing yourself too much, then you're not much of a competent fighter. The suit is supposed to up your survival chances and performance, not to makes you indestructable one man army.
>>
>>15337127
I think it's so that when the suits show up on recruitment posters that people can see the face of a man and identify with them rather than some faceless robot mask nobody cares about.
Also outfitting every guy with fancy doodads is expensive. Better not to get shot in the first place than relying on a piece of metal covering your face.
>>
>>15337128
Yup, it seems it will be a comeback to heavy infantries. Also, the future will also be mobile as fuck.

The concept is too valuable to be shelved, the potential of exos is too much, especially in the eye of SOCOM.
>>

>Yup, it seems it will be a comeback to heavy infantries. Also, the future will also be mobile as fuck.
>The concept is too valuable to be shelved, the potential of exos is too much, especially in the eye of SOCOM.
On the mother fucking BOUNCE!
Seriously though, I figure the best proving ground for Exo-tech would be Special Operations; If extremely limited operation time due to energy capacity is what's holding Combat Exo back, use them in Strikes or Raids where extremely heavy but brief combat is expected.
Instead of making a Suit to fit standard infantry activity, build Spec Ops around the use of the Exo-tech we have currently, such as off-loading energy generation to the insertion/extraction vehicle.

Hell, if that rumor of a Nuclear Reactor that can fit in a car trunk is anywhere close to true, said vehicle might be pretty damn /m/ in and of itself.
>>
>>15337159
>Also outfitting every guy with fancy doodads is expensive
I don't know, I feel like outfitting a guy with an armour plated powered exoskeleton in the first place would be expensive enough that you might as well go whole hog.
>>
>>15337153
>>15337159
>Expensive

Manufacturing a few 3/4 inch thick steel plates to bolt onto a powered exoskeleton isn't that expensive, certainly not enough to negate the advantage of nigh invulnerability to most small arms fire.

Some of the stuff on the suit in >>15337092 isn't that different from what I was thinking proposing.

Powered exoskeleton with steel plates bolted on
A helmet made of two or three pieces of cast steel with some extra bolts holding the hinged piece to the main piece
Padding
Simple communications equipment
Small, cheap cameras on the exterior of the helmet, think of the sort you see on phones, like twenty of them, with some giving the ability to see backwards.
The helmet would be by far the most expensive part, my idea isn't far from the concepts the military shows off to the public, mine is just a bit better designed and allows it's wearer to take full advantage of the ability to carry mostly bullet proof armor rather than pointlessly trying to implement a 20th century helmet designed to be lightweight at the expense of protection.

>Sluggish

Better than dying.
If you think there's no advantage of wearing heavy body armor you're a god damn idiot, militaries already have the vast majority of soldiers walking around in dozens of pounds of stiff Kevlar, they clearly value armor even when it limits mobility a bit, the mechanical joints of powered armor help to make the extra weight of steel plates and other equipment less of a burden, they may very well allow a soldier in powered armor to run faster than a typical current soldier carrying sixty pounds of bulky equipment that makes him overly top heavy.

>maintenance nightmare

How?
If you're using a powered exoskeleton in the first place you're gonna have to maintain that, I don't know about you but i don't think a simple steel plate is a delicate little machine that's going to require lots of upkeep, and the cameras/built in headset in the helmet are durable and easy to replace.
>>
>>15337127
>Why do these designs always have big, clear "this is where you should shoot me" windows on the helmet?

Because the helmet isn't going to be rifle-proof to begin with, so you might as well just give the guy wearing it shrapnel protection over the face plus decent visibility.

You want power armor? There's your fucking power armor. You want some better drawings? Fuck you. Culter-Dei can do lots of stuff. Like cyberjumping. Can you cyberjump? Hell no. Play E.Y.E.
>>
>>15340528
>Helmet isn't going to be rifle-proof

Why the fuck not?

It's powered armor, just put a neck joint to support the weight.

>decent visibility

VR style goggles inside the helmet displaying images from small exterior cameras+the ability to switch part of the image to display a view from a camera attached to the gun would give vastly better visibility than a helmet with an eye window.

You're wrong.
>>
>>15331904
This was explained in The Fall Of Reach, not some game theory bullshit whatever it is
>>
>>15340549
Different poster, but do you realize how fragile camera equipment is still? even a little bit of sand can scuff the hell out of the only thing you can actually SEE out of, and in the situations where it would be needed even the smallest scuff could obscure someone right before they shoot you. It's wholly impractical from a maintenance point of view
>>
>>15340576
Just use a ton of little phone cameras, they're durable as fuck, cheap, and easily replaceable, I highly doubt if you put ten or more of them on a helmet they're all just going to break at once.

They'd also grant the wearer the ability to see backwards/directly upwards without having to turn their body, and the helmet could have a hinged piece of armor over the eyes so that even if all the cameras suddenly stop working the wearer could just flip open the visor and see fine, also maybe put a seam in the armor around the lower face that allows the user to take part of the helmet off if they ever need to stuff their face with donuts or something.

Flawless helmet design.

Listen here you moron-faced dogpiss drinker, I'll have you know that glorious Culter-Dei warriors are just as, if not infinitely moreso, capable of mecha-ry, even as deeply infested with weeaboo scum such as yourself it may be.

Besides, when was the last time there was some stupid-looking giant robot with three eyes? You Orus knockoffs have merely adopted your space samurai ways, duct-taping crescent moons here and drawing Chinese dragons with sharpies there. True Culters were born in the mecha, were molded by it, surpassing the already antipodean standards set by Jian.

You are nothing but another geyser for me to extract from the earthly mantle. I will shit gate spells and you will drown in them.
