Worst thing about these First and Next movies, you can tell the creators really wanted to do a dark, modern reimagining of the showa Kamen Riders. Not a bad idea at all, but you've still got the Toei production values alongside the Inoue writing. Other than making the camera browner and the effects slightly gorier, it doesn't do anything different writing-wise compared to the Kamen Rider airing on TV at the time. I guess it's cool that you can show your friends a modern Kamen Rider movie without talking belts or gimmicks, but the movies just aren't very fun or engrossing to watch. What is a Rider series you really like that generally has a middling-to-poor reception?

For me, it's OOO. The midseason slump hit OOO harder than most Riders because of that string of natural disasters in Japan in 2011 and the mix-and-match gimmick was underutilized, but the overall style, themes, and characters managed to mitigate all of that.

Fuck. This special and Kamen Rider 3 really made me like Takumi. I was kind of eh for him in Faiz, but he's a badass here. Not to mention its actually a really nice send off for Faiz.

What happened to Mari and Keitaro though? It was implied that they died? And Takumi being dead at the end of Faiz but being revived. Did I miss anything that explained that more?

So I've watched W, Gaim, Ghost and Kabuto (in that order), and now I'm trying to figure out which Rider to watch next. I enjoyed W and Gaim, I was very disappointed by Ghost, and I enjoyed Kabuto up until the last 10 or so episodes which seemed rushed, as a bunch of concepts were introduced but never really expanded on or concluded time travelling Hyper Kabuto, mister "I am immortal" that dies two episodes later to little fanfare, TheBee Zecter just fucking off for half the series, Daisuke's lack of existing and Kick/PunchHopper coming out of nowhere with no real explanation of their zecter's existance, even if I fucking love their suit designs. I'm also very much enjoying Ex-Aid so far. I'm thinking maybe something pre-Decade, but if anyone can convince me otherwise, I wouldn't mind watching another post-Decade one.

I'm okay with slow-paced as long as it's going somewhere. I might actually just watch through the ones I haven't seen in order, as what people have recommended are basically the first few Heisei shows.

Now the real question is which series can I watch all the way through without going through TV-N? According to the guide in the OP, it doesn't seem like a lot of groups have subbed stuff from Ryuki through Kiva to completion. I want to avoid as much banana new show as possible.
