For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!

***Graze Group Build***
Rules:
Pick any 1/144 or 1/100 kit from the Graze family (Pic Related), and paint and customize it. As far as customizing it, I'm going to place a limit on that. The limit is 50% additions to the kit.
To define 50%, look at it like this, you could take a Graze Ritter and replace the arms (including shoulders), legs, and backpack and I'd call that 50%. I'm not counting handheld bits in that. If you're unsure of something please ask in IRC, the thread, or email.

Start Date: 12/1/16
Due Date: 3/1/17
Submissions go to
[email protected]
Submission format
Please submit photos in jpg via a compressed file (zip, rar, or 7zip), please don't link images to imgur or photobucket or the like. Please also include some WIP photos of the kits being constructed/painted/etc as validation that it's your custom.

Life is too short to settle for limited shoulder range of motion; chop away, son. Godspeed to you and your hobby saw.

Besides, if it's a melee unit it should really have maximal arm articulation.

So, I wonder which one should I buy? Here are my two choices

>HG Gundam Vidar
>HG Astaroth Origin

Which one should I buy?
>>
>>15237586
Both are sexy as fuck especially Vidar, but Astaroth Origin is more fun to build imo.

>>
>>15237439

>>
>>15237586
Vidar is missing its sliding rack gimmick and its back binders can be obtrusive to shoulder/arm movement, not to mention easy to pop off. Otherwise it's a solid kit.
Astaroth also require a little painting like on the elbows, but no real problem for me.

I'm thinking of getting a 1/100 barbatos 6th form for my first attempt at painting a kit. How should I go about painting the emblems on the alt shoulders, knees, and chest? Hand painting, or should I try to do a wash? Or make a stencil/mask it?

>>
>>15237992
Then it's fair competition, since they won't be able to produce things like this as cheaply as Bandai could.

>>15237968
Don't joke, because they could have if they wanted to. Don't forget how much impact the RD and SRC lines had on the super poseable robot figure market. That MS musume wasn't designed with affordability in mind was the main reason why Kotobukiya is doing so well, aside from the fact that Bandai couldn't sculpt human faces to save their life.

It's probably static.
>>
>>15239404
Is that a Zaku backpack?
>>
>>15239409
It's definitely based off of the Zaku 1 Sniper, With the exposed machinery on the right side and all. Alongside the rifle. But I don't remember it having a 1/100 release. Plus, the modeler was explicitly going for GM sniper with salvaged Zaku sniper parts, hence the shield, right leg, and visor.

Plus, the proportions are off. The Sniper Zaku backpack is way bigger, so it's probably custom. I'd like to guess it's using the HM Zaku 2 backpack as base, but I'm not sure about that either.

Haven't touched my gunpla for a while.

Do you guys sometimes build and then take parts apart for painting? Going back and forth between painting and prepping parts drained me very quickly.
>>
>>15242017

Yes, it helps with memorizing how the parts fit together and familiarizing yourself with the details of a kit before painting.

How can one go back and forth between painting and prepping parts?
>>
>>15242032
Well sometimes I'd grab say all the parts for the legs etc and paint those then go back and do others.

Probably very stupid an inefficient.

I'm having some trouble with the high grade psycho zaku, could anyone help me?
the problem is: some polycaps are too big for the holes they're supposed to fit, more specifically the hinges on the plates that cover the leg thrusters(circled in pic related) and the ones on the piece that connects the legs to the main body.
did anyone else have this problem?
I trhought about shaving off some bits of the polycap with a hobby knife and also tried shaving the hole to widen it, but I'm not sure if it's the best way. should I graba a sanding paper and try that instead?

Oh hey, Hobby Search has the Lancelot listed as restock. Guess Bandai wants more money from the R3 hype.

Much better than the 1/144, it's THE ideal Vidar kit unless Bandai make an MG for it.
Great part separation, the sliding gimmick is there, the pistols finally get their own holsters, the hands now have hinge joints for better posing, and the arms articulation overall is much better.
However, the legs still can't bend for more than 100 degrees, the feet can't accomodate to splitting pose unlike the 1/144, and the back binders still use ball connector, though my Vidar's binders connect pretty tightly so far.
Pretty good kit IMO.

That's the joke all the time about the Zeta so I never got it. But my Exia and Mk.II both are fine. In fact my Mk. The exia is a little more touchy though, with dangly bits and how slim the design is naturally.
>>

That's filling in some blanks incorrectly, anon. Unless by 'support' you mean 'soul-sucking apathy'.

> guns not attached?

You are correct, sir; the magic of Blue tack is strong in that WIP image.

These days those smoothbore (with spare hot-swap barrels!) +railguns are modularly attached with 3.5mm neodymium disc magnets, eight per gun. MBP/10 would magnetize again.

The Kutan parts are also magnetized on so that they're removable so's I can swap in the anti-beam cloak, old WIP pic related.

The oly grade I've ever built, spent a lot of time on it and did enjoy it, I'd say it was a good kit overall but there are a few bits that will easily fall off whilst trying to pose it, and as others have said, the wings.

The wings are damn heavy, and will give you a whole lot of hassle depending on the pose you want it in, I also found the the joints struggled to hold the twin buster rifle up decently, the legs had a few small screws to sort of lock things in place if my memory is correct, could have been handy to have that option with the arms too.

Years and years since I've built it so might be off on a few bits, not a bad kid, just a few little niggles.
>>

Fixed.
They'd never fucking do it otherwise because all they care about is mold longevity and make everything as soft as possible for the 90% snapper fanbase who don't care.
>>
>>15246403
Im a brit who loves polish largers also! We should start a polish beer and gunpla club
>>
>>15246834
That's for their gunpla. For their other lines that aren't going to be regularly remade for the next 30 years they don't care about longevity as much. Just look at their Halo stuff and recent Patlabor kit.
>>
>>15246924
Even the new Patlabor kit is a soft gummy mess of non-detail compared to what literally every single other military model manufacturer does on a daily basis. Bandai simply can not be trusted outside of Star Wars and again that's entirely because of Disney's influence.

Warner Bros has nowhere near that kind of influence but more importantly is notorious for not giving the slightest of shit about the quality of their merch.
>>
>>15246932
that's some nebulous comparison

>>15246834
>make everything as soft as possible for the 90% snapper fanbase who don't care

>>
>>15247405

>>15248675
Dropped a really small connector piece for the funnels of the HG Hi-Nu once, found it like a month after in the one place I didn't look - under my desk where my feet are.
Reason being, I could have sworn hearing it fall and bouncing off a metallic piece on some furniture to my left, so I searched everywhere to the left of where I build to no avail. I stopped building for a week, then begrudgingly finished building the kit, lamenting the fact that I would NEVER have one of the funnels finished.
Lo and behold, a few weeks after, I just happened to find it.

So while you might lose motivation, the fact is that the piece IS somewhere in the room, and that you WILL find it one day.
>>
>>15250527
It's the design 3-D printed next to the RE100 Bawoo for comparison.
On the last page, and on the website, it says we'll be seeing and getting more info on the ZZ ver ka on the 24th of March.
So 1 more month until we get a release date or maybe a prototype displayed somewhere.

Just finished assembling the torso unit. That was a bitch, my fingers kill. I did discover that if you separate the gray end piece where the pink pieces are supposed to end up and then cut the grey runner right up to each pink piece you can slide them off fairly easily and then slide them on to the actual "coupling". A bit easier than trying to push them all while still on the runner.

Nearly everything about this kit posses me off. Who at Bandai thought it would be a good idea to make large parts in abs plastic? This stuff is impossible to glue and sand easily and get seam lines off.

The construction, while not locking parts in, is still build upon build upon build. There's still half a sprue of polycaps to use.

Anyway... Slav Origin Guncannon.

And there is cement for ABS. And ABS is about as easy to sand as PS.

Even the EX-S Gundam at least has some more aesthetic consideration than the Atlas.

Is the soft plastic used for joints not ABS?
Whatever it is is awful and melt when sanding off the flashing. Cutting or scraping off isn't any easier.

I see you're new to gunpla. Take a look at your manual and find the runner layout page. Next to each runner it has (PS) or (ABS) or something. That's the type of plastic in parentheses. (PS) is polystyrene; (ABS) is ABS; (PE) is polyethylene, a flexible and slightly elastic plastic that's wear and tear resistant.

You can see the PC-001 is (PE), meaning it's polyethylene. There aren't many cements for it (and they're more toxic than PS cements probably) and most people don't use cements on it because it's usually used for moving parts and generally shouldn't need gluing.

Also, PE is a very soft plastic and has low, for lack of a better lay word, melting point. So if you try to sand it it'll get softer like gum. You shouldn't sand it, only trim it with a knife, but usually the parts are hidden well enough you shouldn't have to.

For future reference, ABS is a rigid plastic like polystyrene.

I have yet to recover the lost PC-B. For 3 and a half hours I've been on my hands and knees inspecting every nook and cranny in my room so I can continue building my 1/100 HG Shenglong kit.

Feeling around, getting a bright light to cast shadows off the floor, flipping my bed around to see if it could have gotten stuck in the sheets, even going as far as to enlist the help of my roomate far behind on rent to cover the opposite side of the room.

To help better understand the scene in question, I've been using a slightly bigger piece from the PC sprue to hopefully get a better idea as to where it could have landed. My results prove inconclusive, and I may fear that the missing piece may have actually been vaporized during its course from my sweaty hands to the gray carpet of my bedroom.

It is past midnight and I have work at 5 in the morning. I will not sleep, eat, shit, or think about doing anything else until I find it. I may even call in sick to spend the day combing my carpet and furniture.

God help me.

No. I can't find a single screenshot of that scene, but the closest you'll get to an anime representation of us is that one shot of Tatsuya Yuuki when he was painting a kit in the clubroom wearing an artist's apron and a gas mask. I don't think there would be groupies fawning over most of us, but that's beside the point.

>My results prove inconclusive, and I may fear that the missing piece may have actually been vaporized during its course from my sweaty hands to the gray carpet of my bedroom.
This kind of thing tends to happen for any model part that escapes to the floor. For some reason they usually manage to acquire enough energy to tunnel into parallel universes and are lost forever.

TV Altron has the best color. Shelong shoudn't have been blue-red-yellow, that scheme should only be for the main suit of the series.
EW Altron's colors a shit, but it's slightly better than the Shenlong's.
