For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

***Graze Group Build***
Rules:
Pick any 1/144 or 1/100 kit from the Graze family (Pic Related), and paint and customize it. As far as customizing it, I'm going to place a limit on that. The limit is 50% additions to the kit.
To define 50%, look at it like this, you could take a Graze Ritter and replace the arms (including shoulders), legs, and backpack and I'd call that 50%. I'm not counting handheld bits in that. If you're unsure of something please ask in IRC, the thread, or email.

Start Date: 12/1/16

Submission format
Please submit photos in jpg via a compressed file (zip, rar, or 7zip), please don't link images to imgur or photobucket or the like. Please also include some WIP photos of the kits being constructed/painted/etc as validation that it's your custom.

For those who are retards like myself and line things before you have the proper tools, the Gundam eraser marker is just diluted Isopropyl Alcohol. Instead of spending $4 for a couple of ounces you can get an entire bottle for $1 at almost any store.

Just make it 1:2 so it doesn't strip every bit of whatever you lined off.

Both good options. Far as the Spiegel hands go, having seen you post this in /toy/, I say drop the polycap hands entirely and grab one of the Jigen Build Knuckle sets. Each one comes with a full set apiece of Small/Medium/Large hands, and the Smalls should be perfect for mid-90s No/High Grade 1/144s.

in a scale of 10 I'd say 6/10
the real challenge is not fucking up the titanium finish when removing the nubs and that can be nerve wrecking
I also skipped the whole reverse wash thing for the gold trim and used the stickers since their metallic shine goes perfect with the metallic look
adding the metal parts was also something new since I never tried them before, but once I understood how to put them, they were a breeze

I would recommed this thing if you:
- have the cash to spare (10k yen is no slouch)
- really, really want a shiny Sinanju and,
- don't feel like spending extra money, time and effort attempting to get the metallic finish yourself
>>
>>15257766
I'm so jealous my RG sinanju looks like trash compared to this.
If you guys want a Sinanju I definitely advise you to not pick the RG one.

I'm thinking of getting the HG WF-04 Heavyarms Kit (alongside Kyrios and Barbatos) But I haven't had any luck finding photos or even a review? Genera concerns about the kit?

I already have an EW Heavyarms from way back in the 90s (pic related). I'm also wondering if any of the above mention kits could work with any of the HGBF accessory sets like the Jigen hands and such

>>
>>15259406
3D printed in translucent plastic/polymer

It's most likely SLA printed using liquid resin.

From what it looks like it's just the "look", a statue to prototype how it'll look rather than the actual thing.
>>
>>15259614
You can get interior touch up paint for cars that's designed to be used on seat fabrics and vinyl and shit like that. It's designed to flex. That's probably the only thing you'd be able to paint that with without it cracking and flaking off. It's sold in spray cans too.
>>
New Gunpla Expo in ten days. Hopes, dreams, expectations, and despair?
>>
>>15259603
Depends on what paint. If you can, vallejo acrylics are the best for handbrushing, and since enamel thinner will chew through ABS plastic, I'd avoid them unless you prime first.
>>
>>15259594

>>
any reason the blood orphan line has no MG? I know the 1/100s are good but I am just curious
>>
>>15259927
IBO is Bandai's absolute budget gunpla line. Pseudo-internal frame aside, you can tell that the joints are very cheap and the kits are made to use relatively as little plastic as possible unless the kit breaks 1500 yen (the lazy ass shoulders of the Io Frame Shiden are a horrendous culprit).

Essentially, Bandai didn't want to give up making really cheap kits that turned out a profit, so they cleaned up their act slightly from the G-reco kits, told the mechanical design team to work off of the same internal design to streamline production, and lo and behold, they found a way to both explain why every MS in IBO has the same basic internals compared the HGUC, and also use cheap as hell designs in terms of plastic consumption and ease of manufacture.

They've made their money back and they've seen they don't need to work much harder to turn a great profit.

A new mg mk ii with the rg proportions and detail. The mk ii 2.0 is cool but the head is too big and there's not much detail.

A new zeta with the rg detail but not as fragile as the rg. Same with the mk ii the latest mg is solid but it is lacking on details.

New gp0/fb mg. I bought the really old one bc I love the gp01 fb and you can really tell the kit is like 20 years old.

Since the 200th mg is going to hopefully be announced soon I want it to be special. Hopefully either a popular suit that has no mg already, a really really good looking mg that can replace the zaku 2 2.0 as the gold standard mg, something unexpected like a mg psycho gundam, or the mg g self since it's like the only protagonist suit without an mg besides barbatos and even that has lIke 4 1/100s. Definitely won't happen but I'd love a 2.0 alex. id also love a mg fenice that's the original fenice, mg psycho zaku, or kampfer amazing (or just a kampfer 2.0) Oh yeah and a new dom would be stellar

For rgs I'm honestly really surprised we don't have an rg unicorn.
I'd love to see a rg turn A or turn X.
Maybe more build fighters rgs since apparently the build strike sold really well. hopefully we could get a fenice or zaku amazing.

For hgs
Honestly high grades are killing it. The origin hgs are all solid and the ibo ones are cool too. I'm sure any new hg will be great too.

I'd love a new Pg or even a 2.0 of an older pg. I really want a pg but my favorite suits that have a pg are apparently bad pgs and even though the strike and strike rouge are supposed to be really good I just don't know if I want one. Unicorn looks cool but it's too expensive for what looks like a scaled up mg. it just seems to lack the detail a pg should have imo.

Ng 1/100 I'd love a big zam.

The FMs are way better than HGs, if they had waterslides and a little more work put into the frames they would slay MGs.

Original God MG is perfectly fine and honestly better than most of today's MGs. The one and only issue it has is ball joint in the hip instead of 3-axis joint. Otherwise that fighting frame beats the shit out of today's gimmicky but weak shit.
>>
>>15260261
No they wouldn't. The frames are neat but they're just hunks of plastic. They don't even have butterfly joints in the shoulders or any of the articulation you'd find in MGs in the past decade.

All plastic joints and part separation won't do anything if there's not some new feature that would make them worth buying. Though it would also be likely since they'd bring back those undersized bracket hands that you guys cream your pants over because you want SIMPLE parts on MGs which is meant to be a more complex building experience than a NG

I think the zz ver ka is 198 and the 199 is a new justice gundam (?) I've seen that rumor but idk if it was legit or not. ZZ ver ka would have been a good choice for 200 but since it's not I'm hoping they're going with something better for the big 200.

MG 100 was Turn A because Katoki has a hard on for the design.

A convention is "a gathering of individuals who meet at an arranged place and time in order to discuss or engage in some common interest."

Basically, if there's a scheduled list of events, it's a a convention. If you're just there to look at stuff, maybe buy something in the gift shop, it's an expo.

You need to get the arms from the HG Seravee (not pictured) and you pretty much have a Seravee II. I have not built either kit but they should all use the same polycaps so kitbashing would help you retain most if not all of the articulation.
>>
>>15262863
I hadn't realized the HG Raphael came with that much of the parts to make a Seravee II.

Thanks for your help, that's a lot more doable than I thought

Please bear with me, since I'm a chump that doesn't know better.

I have pic related (1997 Bandai LM Series 022 Sachiel) in my closet since ages and I would really like to give a try to this model building thing once and for all.

If I go to a "Games Workshop" store will I be able to get the required tools/painting/advice to start this hobby? Or can they only attend the needs of Warhammer-like merchandise? I'm specially iffy concerning the colour palette, since the instructions are in japanese and I don't know if I can bullseye the correct acrylics. (if someone has a Sachiel colour guide at hand, it would be a lifesaver).

The only other store I can imagine asking for starter's help is a traditional model building shop (trains, tanks, planes and such) but I'm afraid the patrons there will just tilt their heads in confusion when I show them what I want to work on.

tldr. Please help me so that I don't end up exactly like this guy on the video:

AFAIK Games Workshop is fine for paints (if you're loaded as shit) but for actual builders tools you're better off at the model shop or online.

Don't be afraid to ask them; a model kit is still a model kit, after all.

Master Grades aren't really more difficult than High Grades. They just offer more parts and therefore take more time to construct. I actually started on Master Grades due to my brother getting me one for Christmas and thinking I'd enjoy it. Turns out I did. Now I'm on my 3rd kit. The Char's Zaku II 2.0 pictured earlier. GundamGuy's deal is that he reposts images from other places, sometimes not crediting the sources and sometimes getting things wrong (I haven't visited the site in a while, but I remember seeing the 1/100 Graze mislabeled as the 1/144 Graze). He also occasionally posts his own speculation as fact. Apart from that it's not that bad as an aggregator site, and honestly it's probably one of the better Gunpla news aggregators in English.

TagHobby's a Chinese site that deals with Japanese figures and merch in general, but it tends to be more reputable than GG in my experience and occasionally has its own exclusive scans. gtoys.blog48.fc2.com/ seems to be a popular Japanese site for Gunpla news, but I don't particularly care for its layout. There's also Bandai's own bandai-hobby.net [age if you want to get information straight from the horse's mouth, but you'll limit yourself only to press releases and will have to wade through moonrunes.

Honestly though, lurking /gpg/ and one other site like GG or TagHobby should get you most of the Gunpla information.

Not Gunpla but Gundanium Gateway is a fantastic little site for Converge/Assault Kingdom/STANDArt/other smaller mobile suit figures.

His pic stealing was so known that some modeler watermarked his pics with something like "GG is a thief" or something and he still used it. I use gundamkitscollection but really don't know if that's a good source.
>>
I was wondering, with all the weight issues of Gunpla due to heavy buster swords, shields, giant backpacks, why don't they implement metal feet and ratcheted joints?

I got into Transformers recently as well as some Threezero toys and noticed that ratcheted joints are essential for large scale figures, in particular for Transformers due to the frequency of transformation.

I've always found many Gunpla designs silly as they are always compelled to recreate a 2D design in 3D form that is not suitable due to the unbalanced weapon weight.

For example, I would choose the the Gundam Vidar over the Lupus Rex as the latter has that heavy mace which requires a stand.
>>
>>15265242
That stuff can be solved by thickening the joints with glue or paint.

They are model kits first and foremost. They have to be build-friendly. It's the same reason why gunpla mostly uses paint-friendly Polystyrene and not just ABS for the whole thing.

ratchets stress plastics over time, especially on smaller figures.
die cast are expensive to manufacture and would jack up prices, which is why they are usually reserved for premium/adult collector-oriented figures like soul of chogokin, riobot or ex gokin. plus they are terrible for midair posing.
also most of oversized weapons are hollow anyway and even so, nothing wrong with using stands.

So, I'm back. I took the "Games Workshop" solution since their store is at nearest from my workplace/home. Good news; I got the equipment and more. Bad news; I'm 100 Euros poorer, what the fuck ;_;

On the lughter side, the clerk was very helpful and offered me to come by for a trial painting in a figurine before I start with the big proyect in mind.

>>15264599
Thanks. I managed to guess some of those colours with help of the pastebin (mech9). But as I told the clerk the paints I wished for, he said he can't work with those denominations and advised me to "be creative with it", like mixing colours and adding layers.

There was but one thing...He gave me the advice to buy as an extra this citadel model spray to "basecoat" the plastic before I start painting. Not sure if it was the wisest of purchases or if he wanted me to spend some extra cash.

That's Warhammer minifigs....Do you normally basecoat your gunpla? For what purpose?

Once again thanks for the tips.
