For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

***Graze Group Build***
Rules:
Pick any 1/144 or 1/100 kit from the Graze family (Pic Related), and paint and customize it. As far as customizing it, I'm going to place a limit on that. The limit is 50% additions to the kit.
To define 50%, look at it like this, you could take a Graze Ritter and replace the arms (including shoulders), legs, and backpack and I'd call that 50%. I'm not counting handheld bits in that. If you're unsure of something please ask in IRC, the thread, or email.

Start Date: 12/1/16
Due Date: 3/1/17
Submissions go to
[email protected]
Submission format
Please submit photos in jpg via a compressed file (zip, rar, or 7zip), please don't link images to imgur or photobucket or the like. Please also include some WIP photos of the kits being constructed/painted/etc as validation that it's your custom.

Anyone owned the old F91 1/100 kits like this one?
How good/bad are they?
>>
>>15211128

Only thing I have painted so far is my Gouf Custom. Looking back, it's nothing special. I'd love to go back and get another one and do something different.
>>
>>15211150
I just ordered an F90 ADS, from the videos I've seen its joints are shit, but it's still really cool for a 1990 kit.
>>
>>15211150
I've got the Hardygun, and it's actually a nice little thing aside from the stickers on the bunny-ears being pure shit.
>>
>>15211150
You have to do some painting on them. A lot of parts are not the correct color because of the kit making technology of the early 90s, so you will have to paint pars of the kit. Articualtion is not great compared to modern kits.

Also an annoying detail on the 1/100 F91 kits: no detail on the bottom of the foot. They are just flat.

Not OP but someone would need to post a pic of said suits. He seems to pick his images from the current thread and go from there. He took my RX-78-02 as the first in this "series". I'm saving all of them so far. They're fantastic. Keep up the good work OP.

I have that vigna zirah
is awesome, articulation is kinda crappy but the suit oozes style
I ended up giving it the rifle of my MG F91, since its own rifle was bent to hell and back out of the box
also, it is super cheap, I remember mine was like 1000 yen or so in HLJ
>>
>>15211199
try pulling up and out on it before pressing it back down. Mine aren't always a snug fit, but if you fiddle with them enough you can get them to staty shut.

I know I've asked several times across several different threads about airbrushes, so I'll try not to be obnoxious about this, but I have 1 last question. If I get a Master airbrush, which I know are knockoffs of Iwata brushes for the most part, how close to the real deal is it. I really don't want to get a cheap shitty airbrush, but if it's close enough to the real thing, I don't think I would mind too much.

also, the VSBRs in particular are the pieces that need the most work, as they come completely molded in red.

final note is that none of my action bases could even support it since there really is no place for it to attach to them and none of my connectors worked, so it was stuck in the ground forever

>>
>>15211150
They have good, unique moulds that highlights the unqiue designs and features of each MS more VERY WELL. However, due to their age, you could expect problems such as subpar articulation, wobbly joints and varied levels of colour separation. In regards to colour separation specifically, because they were experimenting with system injection at the time, so some kits are exceptionally well coloured, especially for its time, and other may only have two colours total, stickers not included.

Overall, they're great and you should definitely get them if you like the design. Straight builds will be okay, but they would look great with a bit of touchup and painting.
>>
>>15212495

I bet the guy didn't talk face to face with the owner about the issue with the ice. In all his posts he didn't say he directly talked to the guy about it, only that there was ice, no salt, and an implication of neglect.

I'd fire that guy for insubordination on the spot and use the freed up minimum wage money to then buy salt and shovels for the rest of the respectful employees.

There is a right way and a wrong way to bring up work grievances, public social media is NOT for discussing internal work issues.

>>15212566
This guy gets it.
>>
>>15211211
They took much more care with the kits' designs and moulds are much more stylish as a result.

Those are stress marks. You know, when you bend plastic it turns white, yes? When your nippers are blunt they do less cutting and more bending, producing a stress mark at the gate. Man I had the scare of my life. I'm working on a kit for the HLJ contest and yesterday I decided to add some different colors to a piece. I masked it properly and then painted on the new color. Thing is I screwed up the thinning and the new color didn't come out right, so I spent a whole afternoon fixing that. Then I removed the masking tape and holy crap somehow the paint managed to get past the tape and got ALL over the piece. I spent this morning stripping the piece of paint to get a clean start thinking I had ruined the thing.

fortunately I managed to fix it and now it looks as intended.

Within the city itself your best bet is either Image Anime or whatever stores Chinatown has to offer, although the Chinatown mall overcharges for a lot of their stuff. GundamPlanet is less than an hour from the city, so if you can drive into New Jersey it's worth a stop over. Image Anime and GundamPlanet also stock up on P-Bandai stuff if you want to spurge a little.

Cool that's great, which one ?

Yes, we were asking stores to put it in the about ~200 range because that makes it like buying at the normal price if you lived in Japan which is what we're trying to accomplish since a lot of the flack p-bandai gets is mostly related to the hoops that a store has to go through to acquire it in the first place to sell.

If you're trying to test selling a limited run line of a niche series at select retailers that everyone might not have access to, why would you start with a high-cost product like a High-Resoultion kit over something more easy on the buyer's wallet? An RG or MG would make more sense for something to test buyer interest than a niche like that only has two releases out so far (One being P-Bandai) and only one other announced for this year)

I just got done top coating my RX-78-02 and Mk II. Holy shit, I did not realize how much better they look with the matte finish. I gave the RX-78 three coats and the Mk II 4 because I wasn't satisfied with the third. They're drying now. I only coated the shields as well, Didn't feel like doing the weapons. I may do them eventually. I almost picked up an HG Barbatos so I could practice sanding more. It's gone now though so that blows. I pulled the trigger on the Ground Gundam and I'm gonna build it after I do my MG Char's Zaku II 2.0 and the MG GM Sniper II. I may try weathering on the Ground Gundam to give it that extra effect.
>>
>>15218217
That's awesome. Did you wind up doing the seams too, and which tip coat did you use?

Also, I'd suggest grabbing a 1/100 6th form or lupus barbados. The 6th form was a really fun kit to build.

I didn't seem weld. These are my first two kits so I've been taking it slow. I was super nervous about top coating but now that I've done it isn't really bad at all. Don't think I have it in me to enter that zaku modding contest. Been sitting on this zakuIIF2 for 2 weeks now and I can't bring myself to start. Didn't have much on my mind besides giving it a black and gold color scheme and maybe stenciling it a bit. Kind of regretting not picking up the ortega for that giant axe.

Did not help that the Alteisen arrived and grabbed my attention.

Can I use regular enamel thinners for a panel line wash, or does it have to be lighter fluid?
>>
>>15218591
I really wish they made some for the DLC characters, I need Big Band and Beowulf posters
>>
>>15219003
thinner wash will eat the plastic without some kind of topcoat to protect it
>>

Well yeah, I'm gonna put an acrylic topcoat down first before the panel line wash. I just wanna know if I have to go get some lighter fluid or if I'm okay with the stuff I already have.
>>
>>15219018
just make sure the topcoat has completely cured, acrylic takes longer than lacquer or enamel
>>

I hear acrylics take about a week to cure fully, which is fine since I'm a lazy fuck. So can I use Testors' enamel thinner or should I get lighter fluid?

if you gloss coated it you can use whenever thinner you want as long as it does not react to the top coat.

I got pic related for a graze I'm painting.
I didn't see any enamel topcoat. All they had was lacquer. Is that going to mess up my kit if I'm painting with enamel?

Want to paint they eyes red since they don't really stand out but can't decide on the shade. From top to bottom on the runner:

Which one would bring out Barbie's eyes better?

Though maybe you might want to try putting on a couple of additional layers first to get a better idea? It's not like you're only going to do one coat on the actual eyes, right?

I currently have a MG Tallgeese (one of my favorite suit) and a RG Sinanju (I thought it looked cool on pictures, but after building it I regret it).

Hg origin and ibo kits have a lot of nice engineering, articulation, and surface detail.
>>

yes and that's only those, not the majority of HG.

i'd say go with RG if you insist on 1/144 but many of them can be flimsy in one way or another unless you glue certain bits of them to their near-identical inner frames, which aren't much to begin with.

I'm going to be building an HGUC Hygogg soon. I want it to be the first kit I do more than just snap and panel, I want to try giving it a flat matte topcoat as well. Is Testors fine for my first time or should I splurge on the presumably higher quality Mr. Hobby?

Okay, you have a seven foot scrap plastic statue of a gundam. It looks fantastic and displays a great deal of skill and imagination.

The fuck do you do with it now? Like, is it strong enough to pick up? Do you just sit that shit in a corner and hope it doesn't shatter? This seems very impractical.

Aside from wallet reasons, which is admittedly probably one of the biggest factors when buying gunpla, and space reasons, I don't see any reason why not to get the 1/100 IBO kits instead, especially the S2 ones. They're only 20 bucks excluding shipping, and you get a kit with more detail and gimmicks.

But yeah, pretty fucking jelly of your Nu ver ka. It's one of the kits I REALLY want to get before ever quitting the hobby, if I ever do. That, and the MG The O. I don't know why, maybe just because it's big, but I feel like I NEED it.
The ZZ ver ka might also get on that list depending on how it turns out
