Rules:
Pick any 1/144 or 1/100 kit from the Graze family (Pic Related), and paint and customize it. As far as customizing it, I'm going to place a limit on that. The limit is 50% additions to the kit.
To define 50%, look at it like this, you could take a Graze Ritter and replace the arms (including shoulders), legs, and backpack and I'd call that 50%. I'm not counting handheld bits in that. If you're unsure of something please ask in IRC, the thread, or email.

I'm coming to grips with the fact that I suck at nub removal. Sometimes I make them completely disappear, other times, I can't get rid of them to save my life.

Finished my first gunpla yesterday. Took 10 hours total, and it was an insane amount of fun. Considering doing the decals, but they're so tiny, it's giving me anxiety.

I think I wanna do the Guntank next

Looks good man. I'm not one to talk about nubs, but you've got a couple that could use cleaning up. Other than that, good job!

the paint pens are a bit thicker than the fine tip ones but are good as well. You just need to use alcohol and a cotton swab to clean up the excess if you're planing on using one.
>>
>>15202653
>Panel lining with a paint pen.

Just do an actual panel wash at that point. It will be less cleanup than smearing a panel line with a paint marker. If you're really lazy about it various companies even make a pre-mixed wash for you.
>>
>>15202663
aren't the thick ones just panel wash dispensers?
>>
>>15202677
basically yeah. I honestly only bought it once then my local hobby store got some tamiya panel line accent color in stock and i bought 4 of them. Fucken changed my life and the time i spend on panel lining.

>>15202669
Noted. Thanks guys.
Another question: when cleaning up nubs, you clip a with good chunk of gate left on the part, the clip closer to the nub, the file, then sand to blend, correct?

Is there a particular file or sandpaper I should be using? Because the file I use seems too agressive, and my sandpaper doesn't seem to do anything. I also probably need to get some better nippers.
I got mine in a kit that came with a file, exact o knife and tweezers, but I think I would have been better off ordering it all separately.
>>
>>15202752
i usually tend to cut it out with a small nub left and use a scalpel blade to cut out the excess. I actually don't use the handle it came with and instead taped the end of the blade for better control. I always found that these scalpel blades are sharper than normal xacto blades.

https://www.amazon.com/Premiere-9411-Disposable-High-Carbon-Individually/dp/B00EP0T1HY/ref=sr_1_3?s=industrial&ie=UTF8&qid=1486965358&sr=1-3&keywords=Scalpel+Blades+%23+11

I can't attest to how good the quality is now considering i still have roughly 60 more blades and i bought it a couple of years ago.

I don't care for my own safety because of my low self esteem, but is my doggo gonna choke on the fumes? I have a tiny backyard
>>
>>15203071
Yeah, the fumes in general are pretty bad for the health. A little every so often isn't gonna kill you but still. Care for the doggo
>>
>>15203071
As a friend of mine and a long time model builder always says: "If you can smell it, it's going into your system."

If you go without a mask while spraying outside, do multiple short runs with breaks in between and make sure it's a day where there's a light breeze to clear the fumes out.

I just finnished building my Kämpfer and I gotto say, this kit it great. I did not expect such a competently designed kit when I first opened the box, but it turns out it it. Only thing I've run into that's kind of sucky is that the head and the waist joints are a little loose, but that can be fixed.

It also looks amazing with the huge thrusters all over and the insane amount of weapons.

I thought schizophonic or hobbynotoriko were alright too for out-of-box/day-one-release reviews, since they also covers additional articulations and details, and other nifty stuff like symmetrical build or no sticker build, even custom builds.
though they only cover mostly stuff from 2004, so i think for older mg or hguc they might not have it. also no runners or manual.

I'm using nippers, and I'm trying to leave a decent amount of gate when I cut. I just can't tell how close is too close when removing the excess. I started using a file this time, but I seem to get too close to the pieces when I do that, and wind up having a completely smooth surface when I get around to sanding, but there's still a visible mark where the nub was in a few places.

the gunpla polls out here don't lead to any decisions, they are just a form of advanced marketing for things they are making. I.e., it's already being made, the kit being on the poll and even winning they can then use that as part of an infographic.

"Look at this great new kit! It even ranked X on this poll!"

The shit thing is that you could see most S1 gundams being the same inner frame, so it blows that we didn't get MG Dynames or Virtue/Nadleeh. Kyrios would be more understandable because transformer but still.

I halfway wonder if we're gonna get an exia 2.0 mg soon and a bunch of 00 kits using that inner frame a la SEED.

Yeah, I'm pre-building the M.S. Evolve and it packs a lot of engineering for such a little tank. There is even a pilot seat on one of the runners.

Very interesting build so far.

>>

You could look for Gunpla Starter Set Volume 2. It comes with a Gundam hammer and the G30th RX-78-2 (think proportions, panel lines, and greebling reminiscent of the 1/1 scale Gundam). Oh, and a fine tip Gundam marker.

Flat is less glossy than matte, generally.

• Flat paint is ideal to cover minor imperfections or bumps on the wall as it does not have a glossy finish.

• Matte paint also allows you to cover imperfections or bumps on the wall as the gloss in matte paint is considerably low.

Yeah, 1000. It wasn't all Gunpla, we had gotten Nerf guns, scaled buildings to attempt to make dioramas, stuff like that. Though we did spend about 6-7 on plamo in general. Master Grades, a perfect grade Zaku, and whatever interested us at the time. We want to get a 1/12 Zaku and Beargguy to display at our house but fuck those things as hard to find.

Opinion varies. You have obvious unlikable characters in Quess and Hathaway that hog up screentime, Char reverts back to his Red Comet personality instead of staying mellowed out as Quattro, but Amuro wrecks anything that opposes him once he gets used to the Nu, and all the battles and the ending were cool. The robots are also pretty damn iconic, and Chan is much more likable than Beltorchika was at first.

I thought it was pretty good, but there's other people that hate it with a violent passion. It reminded me of the Star Wars Death Star assault scene more than anything else.

For starters you need to sand down your nubs before painting, that's step one, I can see you missed a bunch of stuff on the legs. The guide can give you a guide on how to do everything, you need to read it.
I don't really keep track of how much water or thinner I add to paint, but it's obvious you didn't use enough or any. But again, you need to go back, sand those nubs down, then use primer so the paint sticks to the plastic. wait a day, then get back to it.

that's the thing about the RE-GZ. No one has really strong opinions about it.

It gets overshadowed by the Nu and the Saz + its a cost efficient version of the Zeta, and it doesn't even properly transform it just sort've bends over and has a space hang glider.
However it does have bunny ears rather than a v-fin so thats a plus.
Also the colour separation is a little weak and it suffers from old MG syndrome of crappy articulation among other things.

Verdict, get it on sale. Hope for a 2.0 or ver ka but don't hold your breath

Any moddeling nippers are fine. You're building plastic models, that doesn't mean you NEED to have Japanese mats. I got nippers from Faller, which is German and guess what; they are amazing and cheap.
>>
>>15209231
You need to start with sanding down nubs, because it just looks terrible to leave them on (it's the first touch up you should do anyway). Prime your kit properly and then you can start painting.

Read the guide it explains everything. The ammount of thinner needed depends on all kind of things like the type of paint, the brand, PSI for the airbrush, hell even the collor used can make a difference. Golden rule is "the concistency of milk" so once you reach that level of thinning you should be fine.

Also paint in layers and don't make them thick layers. Multiple nice thin layers work better then one thick one does.
>>
So what is up with all these people not removing their nubs properly lately? I read a lot of people are just snapping their stuff together and then try to remove some of the "vissible" nubs. What is this madness? Why not remove the nubs when you are cutting out the pieces? It's soo much easier to remove them when the pieces are not snapped together, not to mention you can't miss them. Is this not a better sollution on every front, compared to messing with them on completed kits?

Are people just lazy or impatient to finnish a build? Or am I the idiot here for doing nub removal piece by piece?

How do you anons remove your nubs and tell me why you think it's better then the other options.
>>
>>15210179
I also remove them as I'm assembling. I've been using a knife to shave them down and then sanding them afterwards, although sometimes I get overzealous and gouge out a chunk of plastic. That always feels bad.

I will say that seeing people who don't even remove nubs makes me feel like I'm not as terrible at this hobby as I thought I was.
>>
>>15210179
Generally I remove them piece by piece, but if it's something like two pieces of a leg or an arm I'll sand the nubs down after connecting so it's even on both parts.
>>
>>15210179
It's extremely time-consuming. When I first started, I would just nip it as close to the piece as I could and just leave it at that. In this manner, I could finish a kit in 5 hours without stopping.

Now that I remove nubs to perfection without leaving any marks, it takes me about a day per major part (like a limb). I just get exhausted of doing the same process for every single nub. I can see why someone would want to just snap the whole thing together and only work on the most visible nubs afterwards.

Even still, I cut corners wherever possible if I know that this nub won't be visible after it's been snapped together, I won't bother giving it the perfectionist treatment
>>
>>15210222
>five hours without removing nubs
>a day for one part
You must have a short attention span and his is coming from someone who jumps from hobby to hobby really quickly. It took me about four hours to build a GM Striker, and this is including nub removal and even panel lining.

Don't have a show on or be reading something on the side, just build the kit. Focus.
>>
I am supremely lazy with nub removal and really don't bother with anything more than just nipping them off.
>>
>>15210184
Where's snapshit's trashposting when you need it?
>>
>>15210222
>it takes me about a day per major part (like a limb)
I know that pain. Depending on wheter it's a MG or a HG it can take a while when you try to do it right, though I do manage to finnish a HG in half a day with nub removal and so forth.

Taking a day for a limb sounds like a bit of overkill though!

>>15210236
How so? It's not hard and it might take a little extra time, but the end result is so much better and more satisfying then when you don't.

I'd never be able to just look at a kit with nubs on it without thinking it's a half done job and it would drive me insane.

>>
>>15210179
I generally remove nubs while I'm building. I started using a knife and have gotten pretty good with it. I however noticed I started getting lazy near the end of building my Mk IIs legs and did a subpar job on the leg armor. Fortunately the armor easily pops off so fixing them won't be a chore. I must've missed a few when I was removing them the first time around. I noticed a fat one on the beam rifle like an hour or 2 after I called it a day too. Sometimes ya just miss them when you're building.

>Hear all these anons have problerms with nub removal.

I don't get it guys, it's not hard to do, it takes almost no effort and there really is not a lot you can do to screw it up. So why is this such an issue that it's being treated like it's climbing Mount Everest?

just cut them off and leave a bit, then file that away and sand the remaining part to make the surface smooth again.

There is no reason why this should be taking a whole day and there is no reason why you should be gouging out parts. If a knife causes gouging then use a nipper! You have to be really extremely clumbsy to screw up when using nippers.

Has nothing to do with short attention span. I'm a perfectionist. I take a long time per nub to leave a perfect surface finish. I definitely don't rush it because once you grind down the plastic, you won't get it back. You also risk leaving big scratch marks if you're impatient and didn't do the gradual sanding correctly.

This process leaves me exhausted after several pieces and I gradually get more impatient, so I just stop before I start fucking up.
