*** THERE IS NO "GUNPLA GENERAL" DISCORD SERVER. IGNORE AND FILTER THE TRIPFAGS SNAPFIT-KUN (!jyii1UI8x.) AND AIRBRUSH-KUN (!P37CHgxil2) WHO SPAM THE THREAD AND SAY OTHERWISE.

THERE IS ONLY A TEXT CHANNEL ON THE /m/ DISCORD: https://discord.gg/TGjVRAG AND NOTHING ELSE.***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

***Graze Group Build***
Rules:
Pick any 1/144 or 1/100 kit from the Graze family (Pic Related), and paint and customize it. As far as customizing it, I'm going to place a limit on that. The limit is 50% additions to the kit.
To define 50%, look at it like this, you could take a Graze Ritter and replace the arms (including shoulders), legs, and backpack and I'd call that 50%. I'm not counting handheld bits in that. If you're unsure of something please ask in IRC, the thread, or email.

Start Date: 12/1/16
Due Date: 3/1/17
Submissions go to
[email protected]
Submission format
Please submit photos in jpg via a compressed file (zip, rar, or 7zip), please don't link images to imgur or photobucket or the like. Please also include some WIP photos of the kits being constructed/painted/etc as validation that it's your custom.

My big purchase for this month. Since it is a special occasion, all attention will be focused on this, and nothing else.

But for reals, I have got to stop using EMS for shipping, jesus.
>>
>>15166843
Fuck, guess that will never happen then. Guess I'll just order another PG to ease my suffering. Build it with my partner in the house we own.
>>

Can anyone recommend a compressor?

My unbranded TC-20T's tank has a strange black tar in the tank and I'm not sure how safe it is to continue using. I put it away for quite some time and I can't remember what it was like the last time I emptied the tank's water fitting.
>>
>>15166881
Does it have bubbling going through the whole tar?
>>
>>15166887
Not sure, it's kinda dried out and the surface looks like someone patted it peanut butter. Not sure how to really describe it.
>>
>>15166891

Hope you can see that, it's the water separator/trap.
>>
>>15166912
From what little I can see, I would suggest taking it apart and cleaning it out with a good cleaner. Only thing I could think of is black mold so be extremely careful.
>>
Ordered a couple of Graze's today (Schwalbe and Kai) and the Reginlaze. I love the way these suits look.
>>
>>15166918
The tank has that stuff too. I guess I'm just going to toss it out.

Any idea on how to dispose of a air compressor?
>>
>>15166923
Why not the best Graze? Graze Ein feels neglected.
>>
>>15166933
Thermite in that case. Overpressurise it then make a nice boom.
>>
>>15166934
Graze Ein is kind of ugly and gangly. I might go for the Graze Ritter in the future, but I didn't want to spend too much on plastic toys.
>>
>>15166948
>plastic toys
In what world would you treat model kits like toys?
>>
>>15166934
Average /gpg/ construction tends to run in fads. For a while everyone was talking about the Origin Zaku I, then RG Sinanju, Gyancelot, FA Gundam Thunderbolt, etc. Graze Ein was in there too.

Popular models come and go with each passing month.

I just notice that, in every facebook group, local friends etc etc, people are buying alot of bootleg kits....looks like bandai is losing this war and i wonder how this affect the brand.
>>
>>15167822
The bootleg companies mainly make kits of P-Bandai stuff and effect parts, I noticed. On their part Bandai has opened up P-bandai to my region and I do buy from them because there's a notable quality difference. You get what you pay for.
>>
>>15167822
Most of the Bootlegs I see being bought are things that Bandai doesn't/hasn't made themselves.
>>
I wish the GN Archer came in 1/100.
>>
>>15167832
Thats not true, there are so many stuff that is not P bandai. Looks at the Providence, DM stuff have so many kits that are not just P bandai and daban have many kits too like the PG unicorn. I do agree that is OK "not realy" when you buy a kit that bandai does not have.

There seems to have been a demand for third party releases these days instead of outright bootlegs. That's why Dragon momoko has been very active lately in regards to releases. Sure there's the bootleg PG Unicorns but here most of the bootlegs that sell are the dragon momoko kits. Also the Harute final battle version kit as well.

I think it's a good thing though that they're focusing on these niche kits that bandai doesn't want to make.

Sand paper is more for finishing off the nub left overs. It's still better if you use an X-Acto. I've only fucked my shit up once but after that i learned how to hold and cut everything properly.

You can always use the pussy method of placing the part on your cutting mat and cutting towards the mat. It's less precise, but it's what I do.

Reason people fuck up and slice their fingers is because they cut towards themselves. Just cut away from yourself and you'll be fine maybe.

>Sprue cutters
>X-Acto knife
>cutting mat (Does anyone have any particular recommendations for this?)
>patience

Anything I'm missing? My birthday is in seven days so I'm going to buy this shit for myself because I have no friends and want a new relaxing hobby.

I say cutting mat but that's because I always see them in others' pictures. I just cut on the open manual of whatever I'm building. There are tons of little cuts in my desk, but they're so small that I can't see them unless I look for them so whatever.

Thanks. I'm going to assume seam filling would come before priming and painting, right? I've read that super glue is good for that, but I don't know what brands to use.

PS: this thing is a bitch to pose. It's skirts and legs are bulky as all get out.

Just cut away from yourself. You'll have more control. Don't cut using your elbow. Do very fine movements with your intrinsic hand muscles. You're a big boy/girl. You'll be alright.

Really new to these threads, but I have a couple gunpla made already. I got a MG Tallgeese I and a RG Sinanju.

Depends on the model. 00S1 High Grade models like Exia and GN-X fall apart in your hands, while something like a Jegan or the Revive Hyaku Shiki is almost as sturdy as an actual toy.

Fuck if that statement ain't true. I fucking love the design of the GN-X but the ankle pieces, the binders, the front skirt thing, the hands, and the shield. Everything fell off so damn easily. It was all relatively easy to fix, but fuck was it annoying.

I've got a Jegan on my desk that I've knocked down numerous times and the only thing that's fallen off was hand holding the gun. Other than that, shit is sturdier than Russian Tech.

Just finished putting together the helmwige reincar, and holy shit is it stable.

The joints are super stiff/firm (including the waist) and holds its pose pretty much no matter what you do to it, guess its a design choice due to the massive sword it has.

Anyone have any experience with the Farsia or Ms.Sazabi? I like the look and color of the Farsia but kinda want to make the Miss Sazabi the same color as it.
>>
>>15169398
Because its fun, And I spend about the same money on it kit and paint as I would at a night club or a day out drinking. Except it lasts longer, healthier (although I'm a night of heavy drinking might be better than the paint I've breathed in) and I have something to look at after (flirting with girls and buying them something to drink might not result in anything, hitting the buy button on Amazon has a 100% success rate of bringing attractive gunpla straight to your door).

The time isn't that big of a factor, I usually watch TV while I'm doing it, so it'd be the same as someone else solely watching a show.

The problem for me isn't motivation, the moment it stops becoming enjoyable I'll drop the hobby. I have a half finished kit that's been sitting around for a year now because I'm not the interested in it.

Get a new hobby, or get some friends. I'm not trying to be a dick, but you shouldn't be looking for motivation.

If it's missing anything, it's more lines on those panels. Look at the Rex or the Zoe mechs and you'll see that not only do they have those cool highlight lines, but they've got a bunch of normal paneling as well. Genji too, for that matter.

Thanks, and Yeah, you're right about that piece actually being brown. Oh well. I can make it work. I think to add a splash of color/flavor to the model, I could add a single red stripe or one on either side from shoulder to toe. Kinda like the human debris or just as an identifier for a custom MS or ranking pilot.
>>
>>15169717
And maybe a stripe down the side of the head piece.

>>
>>15169723
Thanks. We can pretend it's stolen.
Does anyone have a recommendation for some paints that will match near those colors? >>15169717

Preferably a spray for the tan/brown. I think I can hand paint the stripe, and if it comes out sloppy, it'll add to the character.

There's something oddly fun about meshing together two kits that are more than three decades apart.

>>15169730
Instead of hand-painting the stripe, buy some masking tape that's like 2-3mm wide and paint the parts you want the stripe on red. Then mask where you want the stripe to go and then paint the rest of the part regularly. A bit more work, but you'll get a much cleaner result.

You shouldn't have any problems with color mixing as long as you let the red dry first and you don't paint the tan too thin.

I was reading through Bandai's release/restock schedule and stumbled upon this. SD fans, do you know anything about this "SD G Generation Set" thing? I'm wondering how many kits this thing includes for nearly 18k yen, and searching through Google/HobbySearchAmiami/HLJ isn't giving me shit.

Actually yeah, i like this variation as well, Miss Sazabi var3 is a close contender tho.

>The moments we have enjoying them are fleeting and we need to build more to get that same feeling.

If you just twist and snap, maybe. But for me there's always a new facet of the hobby to strive toward beyond just building stuff out of the box.

Once I had snapped kits, I wanted to figure out how to clean up the nubs. Search for the best nippers, etc..

Then I wanted to experiment with sanding, altering the shine and shape of the plastic. Then seam removal and Sprue Glue™.

I'm just barely getting ready to learn to paint after about a year. Putting together an airbrush set-up was an entire adventure in itself, and now I need to source the right types of paints, primer, top coats, and so on.

All the while I keep adding to or trying new stuff on the kits I've already built. Like this poor Wing kit I built as a kid in the 90s, which is the perfect fodder to test out new techniques and stuff.

I don't have to build more of them, just reuse them every step of the way.

Found some old GW varnish in my paint bin and put it on some parts. Curious to see if paint will stick to it afterward and I can use it as a ghetto base coat until I find some actual primer somewhere. If not... sand it off and try again, I suppose. All part of the fun.

Next comission job - 3d-printed from MadCat Mk2 in 1/72. That ABS plastic is total crap, honestly. Bad in sanding, bad in priming, but I'll finish that walking bastard anyway. And it's unexpectedly small, only 12 meters height. Here it's with Wildcat (just funny coincidence, I've picked nearest plane in my sight) in same 1/72 scale. Comissioner wants simple gray paint overall, but it's just too easy for me, so I will make some little stand with crashed airfield plates

thin plastic wrap thats a cunt to put on, and in the case of the psycho zaku that uses zaku 2.0 molds for a lot of it instead of it's own, isn't even made to hold the wrapping specifically, so one wrong step and its a rip through it. I am one of the ones who unironically like the wrappnig though so i'm ok with it I guess.

I just got dumped and I'm taking it pretty hard. I've been really depressed lately and have a lack of motivation to do anything. Like seriously. I haven't played vidya in over a month, I barely keep up with my shows or comics, and I haven't hung out or done anything with my friends in weeks. The only real thing keeping my mind off the feels has been working on the RX-78-02 my brother got me for Christmas. I'm pretty much done, just need to topcoat it. It got me back in the hobby after not building for like a decade. I enjoyed it more than I thought so I ordered a few more kits. Got my Mk II last night and got the torso built. Gonna work on it more this weekend to avoid seeing people.

Thanks anon. I know I'll eventually get over it. It's just hard right now. I've been watching 0079 while I've been building and I've been enjoying that. I'm a bit wary to start Zeta though since I heard it's so depressing. But I love the MkII so I wanna watch it just for that. It's probably one of my favorite MS designs ever. I'm pretty impressed with the MG Ver 2.0 so far. Some of the engineering does feel a bit dated compared to the RX-78-02 but that kit is 10 years newer so that's expected. Ya think they'll ever do a Ver. 3.0? It'd be tits if they could make a new one with modern articulation and a place for an LED unit or something.

Highgoose is pretty stable if you keep him in a regular standing pose without an action base. Sinanju is pretty floppy due to how heavy the shield is and using the same inner frame as the Gundam Mk II for a kit that's 1.5 times the size, so if you want some cool poses grab an action base (I personally prefer Tamashii Stage Act 5s instead, but that's more on preference)

Wing Zero you'd probably want an action base for for fancy poses with the wings. Astray Red Frame has pretty good footing, and I can't speak for the Full Cloth since I don't own it. Try grabbing a High Grade on the cheap instead.
