Rules:
Pick any 1/144 or 1/100 kit from the Graze family (Pic Related), and paint and customize it. As far as customizing it, I'm going to place a limit on that. The limit is 50% additions to the kit.
To define 50%, look at it like this, you could take a Graze Ritter and replace the arms (including shoulders), legs, and backpack and I'd call that 50%. I'm not counting handheld bits in that. If you're unsure of something please ask in IRC, the thread, or email.

Why does Bandai hate making master grades.

Excluding P-Bandai shit, we got like 3 kits last year.
It's because kits can buy 2 or 4 HGs for the price of a standard MG. Also storage and shipping is a bitch with MGs.

Personally I only buy 1/100 kits though.

In my case, the silver coating thickened up everything so the joints were very stiff. Had a hell of a time doing any posing where the shoulders had to be moved.

Yeah they're a bit stiff for this model and were pretty tough to attach
>>
>>15152264
Oh that's quite horrible.
Pick IBO kits, they're cheap and much better than SEED kits.
>>
>>15152225

I love his weathering stuff and the paints are probably nice for static kits but I'd rather use a lacquer that is much more durable for Gunpla which have many moving parts. If you're not worried about durability as much they're probably nice if a bit expensive.

OK so I got my black and grey Gundam Markers for panel lining. Gonna work on my RX-78-02 some more today, cleaning up any lingering nub marks, adding decals, and panel lining. I also got that 6 pack of touch up markers if I need to touch up any paint anywhere. Here's my question for you guys, well multiple questions; For the blue and yellow sections, would you recommend the black or grey marker for panel lining? Yellow I think the grey would probably be fine, but what about the blue? I think it might be dark enough to warrant the black but I'm just not sure. What are your recommendations? Also once I'm done I'm going to top coat it to give it a nice finish. Do you guys just top coat the armor pieces or do you do the inner frame as well? I thought that maybe you'd only want to do the armor but I wasn't really sure. Thanks guys!
>>
>>15152482
the GM Striker definitely needs an MG version
>>
>>15152534
Depends on the shade of blue but I would go for black, normally. It's preference, really, so do what you would think looks the best. For the yellow I'd recommend taking a cotton swab a few seconds after you lined it and kind of spinning it gently along the panel lines, I personally think the effect looks nice on the yellow parts.
>>
>>15151945
Because they already have a 1/100 line for ibo. Making a mg of the stuff would canabalize sales of both of the lines

>>
>>15152636
Thanks anon. I kinda like them honestly, they look cool and the engineering to how the knees bend is pretty fucking neat.

>>
>>15152718
>getting butthurt that easily
pls
Also the 1/100 line has a lot of cheap hollow stuff, with undersides of things just being undetailed plastic. Some of them have annoying stickers, static back skirts, stuff like that. There are some that don't really need improvement but the first 1/100 barbatos and graze weren't great, they could use MGs (of course I doubt anything but the barbatos will ever get one)
>>
>>15152734
Those are just minor stuff you can fix yourself with paint, scribing tools and some simple mods.
There's no need for an MG, you just need to fix your laziness.
>>
>>15152688
I doubt we'll get RG IBO for a while, maybe 5 years, considering the HG already has inner frames.
>>
>>15152636

It just depends how you bend the leg, the more you use the lower joint the more the knee cap floats. You can just bend the thigh mechanism and it will stay lower, but the lower joint takes less force so they tend to float like that if you're just posing it.
>>
>>15152738
If you can scratch build an innerframe, modify all the armor panels so that they move with the frame and etch all the details like in the MG. Then sure you don't need one.

But with all that effort you could build something that does not have a ready kit available.
>>
>>15151873

Speaking of the GM Striker, I'm thinking of getting a HGUC to do this camo scheme. Yes I know its the Katana version and not the stock one.
>>
>>15152693
IBO doesn't have MG's
>>
>>15152956
That's my point. It doesn't and won't get any because there's no reason to - the difference will be too little to even bother.

>>15152768
>If you can scratch build an innerframe,
They already have inner frames - higher quality than new MGs like the Sniper II for example.

>modify all the armor panels so that they move with the frame
Already have that, but it's worth mentioning that a vast majority of MGs don't have these features

>etch all the details like in the MG
Full mechanics are already detail heavy on the outside and on the inner frame.

Stop your bitching and whining. You know you only care about the shiny gold MG label, and if they just slapped that onto the current 1/100s you wouldn't even fucking notice.

How about compared to the P-bandai one? It's like the Gaelio Schwalbe I never made, except with Iok's beautiful MS color scheme. Worst boy, but best color scheme, desu.

And, I don't think there's like a bits barn for Gunpla, there just wouldn't be much of a profit, having to buy a bunch of kits, just to sell certain runners or pieces, and having a ton of stuff you can't sell. I mean, you can email Bandai, if you're missing a runner or piece, and they will send you replacements, I think, but you need to show proof that you own the kit in the first place.

Let's see.
There is a kind of liquid film used to make windows on planes and stuff. You could probably carefully paint it, or even add color to if beforehand (I never tried that).

Alternatively, and probably easier get a sheet of that sticker film used for visors. It's available in different colors.

due to the design of the kneecap idk how i'd improve it maybe do it, the way it split in halfdown the seamline i pointed out in pic related, though on the 3.0 they did something similar but was shitty though, the knee bends and causes the kneecap to open a slight gap, because that was totally useful, you could shut it with your fingers and the knee joint would remain unhindered, rendering such a waste of engineering useless.

one thing i dislike on the origin mg is that extra flap looking thingy jutting out that i circled in pic related on the end of the top knee joint i wish that was designed better, looks odd as fuck to me.

I just finished putting together the Barbatos 6th Form HG. I was kind of lukewarm on it at first, but I actually really like its silhouette. Much more than I thought I would, and more than the 4th Form too.

Going to take off most of the armor and pose it "Shirtless Samurai"-style with the Graze Ein. Have the 1/100th to build yet though, so hopefully I'll like it as much as the HG.

I ventured into the world of customizing stuff for the groupbuild. It was surprisingly fun, I might do it more in future.

Did you use a line scriber on the arms and torso? How about the little raised bumps?
>>
>>15154882

A lot of it is scribed with chisels, and the raised portions are just thin cut styrene. For things like the hatch you actually make a thin sheet with cutouts and mold it into the piece. Other portions are just removed from the original plastic.

MG ReGz isn't as bad as I expected. It's solid and the transformation works fine, can't pose well at all but that's how it is with all these older kits. The parts separation was amazing for the time, all the yellow inserts for the thrusters are molded separately, as was the rim pieces for the wings.

Only downside is that the beam sabers and gun it came with were undersized, so I had to use a spare Zeta rifle.
>>
>>15154894
When you say "mold", do you mean as in Mr. Cement S to melt it together?
>>

I just used regular tamiya thin cement but same idea; it doesn't have to be cement S because you're going to do lots of sanding and cutting to get it to fit anyway.

Yeah, but Barbatos is sticker hell in almost all it's iterations, plus he still knows not the hassle of nubs, so best to start him out with the Mock and move up from there.

You have to remember, this is the first model kit he's probably ever done, and I don't want to put him off from the hobby via a bad building experience.

Good news is he has an Uncle on his mothers' side who's married to a Japanese woman and thus can act as his middleman.

My whole collection is 4 MGs and I have an RG waiting to be built. I love building and customizing these things to make them my own. But I feel like I'm already at the point where anymore would just be clutter.
>>
>>15155278
>If you're dead set on getting him a hi-mock, then why even ask our opinion on it?
Well I was more asking for re-assurance I guided him in the right direction, I'm not the one getting him the kit so I wanted to make sure I gave him good advice.

>Revive RX-78, Gouf, Gyan, 00 Gundam, Build Burning, or a lot better first kit because unlike the hi-mock, they're not more boring than a sponge.
I agree with that statement (Except for the 00 and MAYBE the Build Burning, due to a lot of clear/transparent plastic) but again, I think that's what make the Mock attractive to him in the first place; It's SO Generic you don't need to know what it's from.

It's a good, cheap base on which to start on, and at least I told him to get the Hi-Mock Army Set as well.

>>
>>15155281
I have so many kits in my closet and scattered around my room, I have no idea when I'll possibly get to them all...

>>15155303
Generally I just snap-build. Occasionally do a bit of detail work, simple shading, panel lining, painting some clear parts, nothing more.

I actually got a whole spray-paint setup for Christmas a couple years ago, but I've yet to set it up or use it. Need to buy a screen or something for a window...
>>
So, I'm still really new at gunpla. Made two models so far (RX-78-02 Revive, Gouf Revive) and I've got Barbatos 4th form ready and raring to go. But I want to do the panel lining right this time. I have grey and black gundam markers, I should panel line BEFORE I start snipping stuff out of the runners? Also, grey on white, and black on color (as few as there are on Barbatos) is the correct way to go, right?
>>
>>15155403
Panel line after, unless it's the Turn A, and yes.
>>
>>15154859
Its more suited for HGs. Plus the battery expires quickly so you're left with just a beam saber that doesnt glow

regarding flat matt where someone give comparison in the past, both of them seems ok to me.
surface for both through eye seems identical, but in touch comparison, surface feel smoother in Mr Hobby.

did notice a few difference about Mr Hobby Top Coat & Krylon Matte Finish during application.
Krylon: dry faster. didn't expect this; pretty quick coating progress i would say.
Mr Hobby: take quite some time to set. looks fugly at first (uneven coat surface) but given time, it settled in a nice smooth layer coating.

Krylon have more advantage in volume & time application for comparison with Mr Hobby.
but there's few factor to be considered, as my Mr Hobby seems have less pressure in can & applied it in a shorter range; while Krylon is brand new & i spray a little further than Mr Hobby.
shouldn't upside down & spray to clear the residue in nozzle, as it sure reduce a fraction of can pressure.
anyway, each things sure have it's very own perks.

pic related by potato camera, MG buster torso using Mr Hobby while other parts using Krylon.

can't wait for the results as i recently have very own free time to assemble MG Buster with top coat progress. & thanks for anon's previous advice for both products.

the new kit and the old one are EONS apart
>>
>>15158333
Because it's something 4chan does to phone images.
Just edit it in paint and save as something new.
And you should resize them at the same time, no need for that big
>>
>>15157823
nice, btw an easy way to make your kit look a lot better is to use a fine-tip marker and panel line it. Read the guide for more info. have fun!

I followed the sticky and got #17 hobby knife blade. I carefully use it to scrape away at it little by little. However when removing nubs, I end up scratching the hell out of my gunpla. How do I get it to look smooth while not leaving a bunch of scratch marks?
>>
>>15158446
Matte topcoat.
>>
>>15158371
I'm seeing double.

Honestly, it's insane how far they've come. The NG looks like someone you'd find in the 1 Peso store in Mexico.
>>
>>15158446
Sanding the scratches with a high grit.
>>
>>15158446
Your use of the word scrape leads me to believe you're doing it wrong. Slice is a more appropriate description. Take small, thin wafers of plastic off the top of the nub until you get it flush. If that's what you're doing, then the only possible response it git gud.
>>
>>15158645
Do you have a preference between 400 and 1000 grit?

>>15158667
I see, I thought you were supposed to scrape with the #17. Slicing seems like it would be hard to control but I will try.
>>
what color should i use to detail IBO inner frames? metallic brass or bronze?

might as well sand it with metal wool.

You guys need to visit Japan at least once, or at least either Hong Kong or Taiwan (and visit their Gundam Bases, market districts).

Have you ever seen a whole floor of a shopping mall tower dedicated to Gunpla? It's a rush. Especially since the more ragtag stores will have mountains of really rare kits, metal detail parts, tools, and more for half the price you would find on Amazon.

I'm looking to make a Gyan Vulcan, but I'm reading that maybe the Valuable Pod doesn't fit with the Gyan Revive? I'd like to avoid getting the old HG Gyan if possible. Or is it going to take too much modding to work?
>>
>>15158861
You can use the adapter to fit the backpack on, the new head can go on, and even the shields arm clip parts can go on the revive, but the shoulder pads can't just be swapped on. The attach to the original Gyan by sliding its thin shoulder pegs through a hole while the revive uses a balljoint for the shoulders so the Gyan Valcan's shoulder pads have noting to fit around to hold them on. You would have to mod it to make it fit.

It's doable with a little work, but you won't be able to just swap all of the parts on out of the box.

Fuck, that's hot. How do you duplicate the lines from one peice to another? Is it just eyeballing or is there something to help?

Does anyone know if there is lineart for the Prototype Gouf (the origin kit)?

For the grey parts on the Strike Freedom 2.0 railguns is silver or black better for Panel lining?

>>15159775
How do you even panel line with silver?

Paint over the line, gently remove excess paint with cotton swab dabbed in necessary remover, paint should remain in crack but be removed from the surface of the piece.

>>
>>15159974
Yes.
>>
>>15159980
Thanks, what's the best way to apply them? Should I get some tape to hold them on the surface while I rub them with a coin or something?
>>
>>15159986
Get some tape, tape it on the wing, rub. Preferred rub tools include pencils, pens, a DS stylus, and your own fingernail
>>
>>15159986
I use masking tape to stick them to the surface and then rub it with a coin, works really welll for me
>>
>>15158844

I can't speak moon. Do they have people there that you can hire to interpret all the wonky slanted stuff? Because cute girls could make millions doing that shit for fat american dudes.

>>

>>15160014
I went to Yodobashi Akiba and Gundam Front Tokyo in Odaiba.

Yodobashi had a great selection at great prices. Gundam Front was a bit pricier given the whole "Official Store" thing, but it was really cool seeing the room they had set up there with like, every Gunpla ever on display.

Also really liked the Gundam Cafe. Nice drinks, tasty fries and garlic bread, and a loop of Gundam TV openings as BGM. Wonderful.
>>
>>15159974

I never use those dry transfers they give you in the kits I prefer water over them

>>15159991

>>
>>15160029
I bought my first gunpla at Yodobashi Akiba. Worst decision I've made. I liked the gundam cafe even before I watched gundam, I can only imagine how cool it'll be now that I've seen pretty much everything and have been building kits for two years.

I've been wondering, what do you guys use to clean the dust off your figs? I've tried being gentle with a Swiffer duster, but it still catches on every v-fin and accessory on my figs.

I tried canned air, but the dust seemed to be almost stuck. Do I need a better brand with more pressure, or did I just not do it right?
>>
>>15160067
>Worst decision I've made.
Why's that?
>>
>>15160081
Because I've since spent hundreds if not thousands of euros and hours on plastic bullshit, airbrush setups, paint and watching most of the shows.
>>
>>15156302

You wouldn't have a hobby supply company for long, then. People would notice pretty quick and just stop buying your stuff.
>>
>>15160038
How come, is there something wrong with them or are they just bad?
>>
>>15160087
They're just a bit tricky to use. Basically if you fucked up the placement, you fucked up: no second chances.
>>
>>15160085
Did you enjoy it? What would you have spent the money on otherwise?
>>
>>15160095
Is there anything I can use to remove it if I fuck up?
>>
>>15160111
Well you can scrape it off with a cotton bud but you can't put it back.
>>
>>15160054
I know the pain, I've only recently applied them for the first time, but truth be told it's much easier then I thought it would be. So don't worry and just go for it, like all the other things gunpla, doing it is the best teacher.
