Rules:
Pick any 1/144 or 1/100 kit from the Graze family (Pic Related), and paint and customize it. As far as customizing it, I'm going to place a limit on that. The limit is 50% additions to the kit.
To define 50%, look at it like this, you could take a Graze Ritter and replace the arms (including shoulders), legs, and backpack and I'd call that 50%. I'm not counting handheld bits in that. If you're unsure of something please ask in IRC, the thread, or email.

I think its a good kit. Same with most IBO kits, great inner frame and pose ability. There were no quality issues with my kit.

Pretty much, except Gastima.
On the plus side, they look nice and other than Gaeon and G-Self, the color separations are top notch though it's not really an issue if you're good at painting.

So progress on the Iok Reginlaze is coming smoothly, if slow for my progress. Anyone got any ideas on where I can get appropriate 1/144 scale decals for Gjallarhorn MS's? I tried eBay and found nothing, and Samuel doesn't seem to have anything from IBO.

Whats the best way to strip unknown paints off of gundam? I bought a MG sandrock from my local thrift store and the runners are painted.

It's a webshop based in China that sells third party decal sets for almost everything gunpla as well as a few other series. You can also buy third party kits and occasionally some P-bandai stuff from them too. They had there own website but then basically just put everything on a facebook page. If you see something you want you send a list of it all in an email and you get sent back an invoice for paypal.

Has anyone built those bandai star wars kits? I finish my a wing a while back and ran into a problem with the water slide decals did not want to stick to anything. I do need to vent a bit. I started on my V-gundam hexa kit and tried improving and changing my method of getting rid of nub marks. Unfortunately i fucked up a number of times, often ending up making the marks look worse than they would normally and left a light knife cut across the side of the torso... I hope i'll be able to fix the worst of it with gundam markers.

What makes it worse is i have been able to get rid of the nub marks well, the problem is i can't do it consistently. That is what frustrates me the most. Not to mention the all the damn tiny stickers on the hexa head grrrr.

Piss poor articulation, partly due to design, mainly due to engineering. Poor color separation, and poor joint performance.
If it was a kit back in late 90s or early 00s, it would be cutting edge and be appropriate for the times. But right now, it's a joke. Compare it to say, 00 Gundam, which is ten years this year iirc, and that model blows it out of the water by far.

The gist of it is that due to the design of the G-Self (And some of the other G-Reco kits in general) they suffer from not-so-great articulation and being a bit of a stickerfest, and in general doesn't feel like a kit from 2014.

The first-release G-Self also has inaccurate colors where the torso is a candy-red instead of a dark red like it is in the show. They fixed that with the Perfect Pack however.

newbie question, do you always need to use something with waterslides or can you just put them on with water and leave em. saw my hobby shop with something called micro sol and another sol item, whats its purpose?

Well technically you can just leave the decals and have the topcoat protect them, but Microsol and Microset protect your decals even further.

Microsol specifically is mainly used for softening up the decal more for curved surfaces. Simply apply it after putting the waterslide on the surface.

To say that G-reco bombed is not strictly true. The show itself preformed well enough relative to it's timeslot (at 2am..) It didn't get much support from bandai, and the kit line was directly competing with the Try Kits. And despite this the line still sold well enough to get a second wave. Don't confuse your personal dislike of a show with how well it did. However while G-reco didn't bomb, it didn't do super great.

That's the problem though. Since it didn't perform very well despite the timeslot, lack of support, and competition, Bandai will take this as it's a failed product. So in their eyes it bombed. I personally don't mind the show as I've seen much worse.
But we have to be realistic here and acknowledge that if it ever gets a MG, it'll be some time from now. If it wasn't for Kio being a shitty character, we could have gotten Age 3 MGs. I would have loved a MG Orbital.

almost done replacing the crappy molded cables on my HGUC Revive Hyaku Shiki - excellent kit, such a dream to build. Hand painted with tamiya.

The instructions make it apparent the construction from the waist up is based off of the HG, but there's a lot more going for this kit based on building the head alone.

For starters, there's the usual third party shtick of throwing panel lines everywhere, but the construction is hella tight in the head, especially the head fins (The ones on the HG were loose as fuck, which prompted me to make a more GM-style head with my custom. Here they're a snug fit and stay in place).

The only complaint I have so far (Asides from a lack of stickers) is that there's only enough parts to have one head built. They could've easily thrown in three more parts for the thing, but they didn't so oh well. I have it built here in normal mode but I'm probably gonna keep it in Marute mode.

white tamiya primer spray printer, 2 thin hand coats of tamiya metallic gold, 2 coats clear yellow, then one final thin touchup coat that was clear yellow with tiny bit of the gold in it. The finish isn't perfect but I don't mind them looking a bit handmade.

The upper torso's construction is pretty much the same as the HG's asides from the use of a smaller hole for the connection from the upper and lower waists. Also it seems like all the balljoints are gonna be plastic on plastic based on the one used for the front torso and the pieces for the waist.

Also the Marute head feels a bit looser than the Harute head. Nothing some glue can't fix but still kinda meh.

Another beginner question, I'm going to take the next step and start panel lining my small new collection. Do I need a specific color for yellow parts or others? Strike Freedom was a tad overdesigned with the guns, DRAGOONs, chest cannon, railcannons, etc...
Destiny I really do like and it had a really well-designed MG, with the exception of its waist section which was kind of a mess.
Infinite Justice meanwhile is simple in design, and well-engineered all around.

I hope they do the Legend. Really like that thing's headsculpt and its legs.

Also, there is a shit ton of thrusters that need to be dealt with. Some of these are epically tiny. Any thoughts on how to secure them during the painting process. I used a hot needle and poked a hole through most of the insert sides but dont have any alligator clips for the ultra tiny thrusters. The plug side of the thrusters on this kit are about 1mm...

The difference between the Manga and Animation Thunderbolt kits is purely just plastic color and sticker application in certain areas. The Animation GM for example comes with the exact same foil sheet the Manga one gets but doesn't tell you to use some of the stickers on the backpack like they are on the left, for example. There's no difference in molding on any of them as far as I'm aware, so I doubt they'd go the mileage to make both a OVA and Manga styled Atlas.

As long as it's room temp and not super humid in the booth and also where you leave the paint to dry you're fine.

Make a long stick out of an old runner, then heat up the end with a lighter till it's sorta soft and then stick the end of the thruster on it. Once it cools it'll stay in place while you paint, then when you're done it pops right off easily, test it with a little chunk of the runner and see before you do it with the thrusters.

Acrylic paints are fine, right? That's all I have in the house (Testors brand, if it matters), so I'd prefer not to have to buy more.
