*** THERE IS NO "GUNPLA GENERAL" DISCORD SERVER. IGNORE AND FILTER THE TRIPFAGS SNAPFIT-KUN (!jyii1UI8x.) AND AIRBRUSH-KUN (!P37CHgxil2) WHO SPAM THE THREAD AND SAY OTHERWISE.

THERE IS ONLY A TEXT CHANNEL ON THE /m/ DISCORD: https://discord.gg/TGjVRAG AND NOTHING ELSE.***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

***Graze Group Build***
Rules:
Pick any 1/144 or 1/100 kit from the Graze family (Pic Related), and paint and customize it. As far as customizing it, I'm going to place a limit on that. The limit is 50% additions to the kit.
To define 50%, look at it like this, you could take a Graze Ritter and replace the arms (including shoulders), legs, and backpack and I'd call that 50%. I'm not counting handheld bits in that. If you're unsure of something please ask in IRC, the thread, or email.

Start Date: 12/1/16
Due Date: 3/1/17
Submissions go to
[email protected]
Submission format
Please submit photos in jpg via a compressed file (zip, rar, or 7zip), please don't link images to imgur or photobucket or the like. Please also include some WIP photos of the kits being constructed/painted/etc as validation that it's your custom.

Don't forget the Hunt for Snapfit Contest is still rolling.

Tag and bag him, send proof to Bandai and they will congratulate you and give you any plamo you wish. Find him by any means.

Bonus points if caught alive and bludgeoned to death on livestream!
>>
>>15143898
Can't we just get the EXIF data from one of his pictures on his personal tumblr
>>
>>15143900
However you find him works. The end justify the means etc etc.

As long as we ensure he doesn't live to see 2018 or cease posting, do what must be done!

Why an Amazing Zaku for starters?
>>
>>15143951
I got this kit a couple of years ago, back when BF was airing, i built about half of it but wasn't happy with how the nubs turned out. Recently decided to give it another go, got much better with the nubs and such.
>>15143940
Why the dislike? because it's a BF kit?
>>15143947
I do have a MG RX-78-2 2.0 that i got at the same time. But i think i'm mostly gonna stick to high grades. I'm on a budget, and gunpla isn't cheap in my country.

Most people, myself included, just don't really like the Amazing. I personally think the armor looks fucking retarded and the missile pods and gray things on the shoulders and legs just don't look good.
At least the Kampfer Amazing's cool.

Set it on fire and get a PROPER ZAKU.

real grades aren't that much more expensive than high grades and are much more satisfying to build
>>
>>15144018

It's the opposite for me. I don't like the Kampfer Amazon's box weapon pods or dumb looking guns. I like the Zaku Amazing because it really feels like a regular Zaku kit someone just stuck some army plamo parts onto.

Doubt it since it's cheaper than the Sinanju which had less gold than this.
The blacks might come as glossy as the Sinanju's reds though.
The gold will be the standard puke gold similar to the SF and the P-Bandai gold frame.

I can't decide between a HG Zaku or a RG Zaku. I know the HG are some of the older models and have less articulation, etc. But they also look more true to the original Mobile Suit anime than RG. That said, RG is nice with the exoskeleton. Doushio?

The Origin Zaku combines the surface detail of essentially a PG with the posability of an MG and the durability of the HG. It has a near complete inner frame, like the RG, but is much more stable and things like the head are more anime accurate. You can't lose.

If you want something that just looks 1:1 like the anime ones, get the old HG.

I'm a novice gunpla builder, I recently bought two HD kits, one is an IBO suit that I can't remember the name of but it's piloted by the lady with the scar on her chest that dies because all the best girls in IBO have to be killed for some reason. And Full Armor Thunderbolt, I was wondering what I should use to file down the nubs? I did read the guide and I Am planning on getting an x-acto knife, but Sandpaper seems kinda iffy with me since it'd just fold over alot, I was wondering what you guys use on your nubs, post pics of your tools if you can pretty please, I am also wondering how to put on Stickers.
>>
>>15145967

Don't sand unless you're going to paint, because even the smoothest sandpaper will leave a discoloration. Sometimes the discoloration is not noticeable after a matte topcoat, but you have to get a sense for it.

You can literally remove nubs just with an xacto knife. The standard blade + small chisel blade is all you will ever need, besides a good pair of nippers(the 30 dollar standard Tamiya nippers are the best bang for the buck, I've found).

There are youtube tutorials that will teach you how you should be shaving the nubs off. You will probably fuck up your first kit. It's normal.
>>
>>15145978
I already fucked up my first kit, I did pretty decent all in all except I fucked up one of those squishy polycaps so it's arm falls apart, it was Destroy Mode Unicorn, and I used my Mom's sparkely callous filer, I'm a little nervous about using a xacto knife because I'm a little afraid of cutting myself.

You're going to cut yourself in this hobby, get used to it. At least with xacto blades it's a clean cut so they heal quickly.
>>
>>15145988
>You're going to cut yourself in this hobby, get used to it.
Dumbest fucking sentence I've ever read. You might as well tell him to not wear a mask while spraypainting or airbrushing cause paint's gonna get in his lungs anyway. You can very easily shave off nubs while still being safe with a knife, this isn't an either/or issue.
>>
>>15145988
Ok that helps I remember earlier this year cutting the tip of my thumb open with a steak knife. It wasn't pleasant.
>>
>>15145998
Accidents can happen dude, especially if you're not used to exacto knives.
>>
>>15145998
Thanks for the tips dudes, I'll be sure to get a knife, snippers, and a filer just in case.
>>
>>15145998

>telling him getting cut is inevitable in a hobby where half of what you do is cutting plastic is the same as telling him to ignore all safety practice

Maybe it's the dumbest sentence you've ever read because you don't have reading comprehension. You can be as careful as you want but you're going to cut yourself eventually because of something like underestimating how sharp/dull your blade is or how resistant the nub is and just slipping off.
>>
>>15146002
You can also rub your finger nail over small scratches and white parts so they don't show as much.
>>
>>15146001
Accidents are called accidents for a reason, and they're usually preventable by not being a moron when handling dangerous objects.

>>15146004
Maybe try using a method that doesn't bring the blade in contact with your skin like an idiot? Like cutting the nub away from you instead of towards your thumb like I see so many people with scarred fingers do. It's basic goddamn knife safety.
>>
>>15146014
>Like cutting the nub away from you instead of towards your thumb like I see so many people with scarred fingers do. It's basic goddamn knife safety.

I don't think you understand that draw cuts are very effective so even people with "basic knife safety" knowledge still do it. You ever work on a boat?
>>
>>15146011
That might be a problem I have a habit of biting my nails when I get nervous which is alot so I can't scratch that much.
>>
>>15146014

There are people whose entire hobby is collecting knives so they own ten thousand dollars of knives and touch knives all the time, and they still cut themselves.
>>
>>15146022
It's not scratching, you rub the surface of your nail on it, not the edge.

I'd say get the RG because you're going to have a much more fun and cooler looking model when you're done.

The first rule of Gunpla is that it doesn't matter how good or bad the show is, or even whether you like the show or not. The Build Burning and it's variants are great kits despite how meh the show was, the kits for Gundam AGE are also really good for a bad show.

Button cell battery, wire, and LED. Maybe a switch. If you are just using a button cell (watch battery) you don't even need to worry about a resistor.

Yep, based my Graze Brothers' on my Nephews, so one is an outlandish monstrocity with nearly every booster part I can tack onto it, while the other is a much more conservative with only doubles of the standard Graze Armaments.

Here, I ordered this dude the other day, but it won't arrive until around Feb 18th, so I'm thinking of ordering something else to do in the meantime.
Is there any reason my first kit shouldn't be a MG? Is it any more challenging, or is it just more time consuming?

I've found a couple of other gundams I like, but they're mostly master grades. They would arrive before the end of the week though.

Firstly that's a older MG so it might be a bit tricky, (i don't know about it's quality.) Secondly Master grades generally aren't much harder, but since they are more expensive it's more a big deal if you screw up. That's why i did a HG first. If your confidant in your skills it should be fine.

You can just rotate pictures on your phone, here I did it for you. Now stop sperging out at anons when they hurt your feelings, this isn't reddit so don't expect handholding and cuddling.

Also why not use a file/sandpaper? If you dont have them just go and get some it's cheap and it helps out making your kit look better.

If it was dullcoat, a common trick people often use to hide/remove most of the frosting is to recoat with gloss and then spray a flat coat again.

Also, make sure the model surface is clean and its not overly humid. And don't overspray. Humidity and overspray are the two most common causes of frosting as the cause the spray to pool and the matte powders to clump instead of leveling off properly.

That doesn't work, 4chan strips metadata when images are uploaded. Rotating an image before uploading will likely lead to the image still being oriented improperly when posted.

The easiest way I've found to fix this is to just drop it in a dropbox and reorient it with photoshop/paint.net/etc, and you can also scale it down so they're not fuck-huge anymore too.
>>
>>15150100
You CAN actually rotate it on the phone itself (it's how I upload most photo's from kits), you just need to edit the picture and rotate it there, you can save your edit after that and the orientation is then fixed in the file.

>>
>>15150471
Depends on how fast you work and how complicated the kit is. My first HG took me an entire stressful weekend, now they take me maybe a couple days working on and off when I feel like it.

You'll inevitably get better as you get used to it, but ultimately work at your own pace, there's no rush.

They're alternate versions of kits, like the White Dingo GM Sniper II, or the Crossbone X-2. Usually a couple more accessories and different plastic.

Have they remade any of the old hg kits with multi colour runners?

P-Bandai is Bandai's (of japan) online webshop. The item is supposed to be only available from there, but some other asian countries carry there own version of it and have the kits available. Usually p-bandai kits are variants of existing models that are recolors or have only a couple new parts.

Unfortunately they block most western shipping addresses so unless you're asian you need to go through a middleman seller and pay markup if you want one usually. Apparently Derringer has been trying to arrange some sort of deal for Bluefin to get them ever since the tallgeese mg.

Green stuff is pretty damn durable once it gets hard and it's fine to use without proper ventilation if you can't deal with the vapors from tamiya putty. It's a lot heavier than Tamiya putty though, so you wouldn't really want to use it to fill small gaps/panel lines.

Also don't buy Citadel Anything (The paint range is fine, but that's more personal preference/what's available in your local area), it's overpriced as fuck. For example you could buy the "Citadel Drill" they sell for like $26 that comes with 3 drill bit sizes, or you can just grab a pin vise that comes with six different drill bits on Amazon for $12.
