Look, I loved PR as much as the next anon here, but it's a relic of the past. It'll never catch onto greater popularity because of the Internet age. Kids aren't in the dark of Japan and frankly, there's more familiar superheroes that they can watch on CW as well as the movies. Everyone's mom, dad, uncle, aunt, older siblings, cousins, and even grandparents or even great-grandparents know who Superman, Batman, Captain America, Spider-Man, Wonder Woman, etc. are.

PR does not have that kind of extensive imprint on the society and culture of the US that DC and Marvel heroes have. It was a quick cash-grab to peddle Japanese shows for network TV and it succeeded beyond all expectations, but it doesn't have the staying power of time-tested US icons.

What are you talking about? DC superheroes in the 1950's only suffered because of the Comic Code Authority. That and post-WW2, publishers wanted to expand to Westerns, romance, sci-fi, etc. instead of just superheroes. The interregnum only lasted for a few years before the Golden Age shifted into the Silver Age.

PR is a very different boat compared to DC/Marvel in the Golden and Silver ages. I mean, you could've made a better argument about the collapse of the speculation market in the late 90's and how Marvel declared bankruptcy. But luckily Marvel had the Ultimate books to bounce back with as well as the Fox X-Men films.

I was 9 when I grew out of it. I don't recall being mocked for liking it at that point but I do remember seeing previews for Wild Force and thinking "Nope. I have lost interest in this" and for the next 2 seasons or so I got the same feeling every time before I finally realized what was happening.

Sure, unpopular things can get popular again. Look at Ninja Turtles. From the late 80's to the mid-90's, Turtlemania was all the rage. And it wasn't until the early-00's that it got a jump-start again thanks to the new cartoon and the Michael Bay movies. But even now it's nowhere near where it used to be.

If you honestly don't see that PR isn't going to be popular by dismissing MUH REASONS, then you're eating too much Member Berries. Saban Brands doesn't give a shit about doing anything beyond half-assed. Super Megaforce was their last chance to get their shit together and they blew it.

Lastly, you're making a mountain out of a mole hill over the 1950's era of cape comics. It's nowhere near the kind of drudgery that we've been getting with PR over the years (I'm looking at YOU! Disney!) and it's been part of American pop culture for generations. You can't say the same for PR.

Superman started in '38. 1950(to pic a time, give or take) there's 12 years in between(less years than Power Rangers has been running btw), how many generations do you think there can be in 12 years? Super heroes werent part of american cultures for decades THEN, they became one after.

Look at this segment of Kids React to Power Rangers which came out in 2014.

I personally think one of the main reasons why PR isn't as popular as it used to be is because every season repeats a similar formula: Bad Guys come, Teenagers with Attitude come to save the Day, Zords destroy Super-Sized Monster-of-the-Week, rinse and repeat. And 2010's kids prefer live-action slice-of-life than beat-em-up action. If they wanted capes and masks, they were fortunate enough to grow up in the time of the superhero boom in cinema and TV. My neighbor's kid loves CW Flash for instance while one of my co-worker's daughter idolizes Melissa Benoist's Supergirl.

With US superheroes in live-action, like Marvel's, you can watch a story about a good-hearted guy that sacrificed himself to become an inspiration during WW2, the mythos of an arrogant godling who learned his humility on Earth, a reckless genius playboy whose family and drinking issues lead him to become a techno icon against oppression. Even Guardians of the Galaxy was basically if you took Firefly and mixed it with Indiana Jones shenanigans. There's more variety in the stories than what you get in PR.

Today's kids however are far more media-savvy than us and have more tech at their tech at their fingers than we could've dreamed of as kids. PR just doesn't seem to be considered cool or trendy to today's generation beyond early grade schoolers. They want to emulate what the older kids and young adults like, which is usually DC/Marvel.

Yeah. Kids in the early 90s didn't have much in the way of live-action guys in costumes beating up bad guys outside of Saban or the Burton/Schumacher Batman movies. But now, they're spoiled for it. Power Rangers only had to compete with other cartoons or other cheesy shit like Xena back in the day. But now, they've got to deal with the CW shows that produce far too much content for Saban to match.

And I know Linkara sucks, but he made one genuine good point about how today's kids are too used to shows like Avatar, Steven Universe, and the CW shows I previously mentioned to appreciate PR nowadays. Aside from RPM (which is now almost a decade ago), Power Rangers hasn't adapted or modernized at all. Even at its best, Dino Charge still felt like a kids' show made in 1999. It hasn't shifted itself the way other kids franchises like TMNT or Voltron have. But I don't know. Maybe the movie will do something different.

I really enjoyed that Ninja Steel episode. Sure a few lines had a bit of awkward delivery and the puns in the last fight could have been a little more relevant to the monster but overall it felt fun and the music this season sounds great (theme song could be cut short a bit though).
