The thing is that Lalah was only a few years younger than him. Everyone seems to forget that Char was only 20 during the events of 0079. A 3 year gap isn't weird at all.

As he admits in CCA, he had no real interest in Quess and was just using her as a way to further his agenda against the Earth and Amuro.

It's misinterpretation of the Char/Quess thing in CCA, mostly. Quess, was 13 while Char was in his 30s. However, that romantic attraction was completely one-sided from Quess and Char was using that devotion to further his own plans. There was no real relationship.

Some people point at his relationship with Lalah, too, but she was 17 when he was 20, which isn't as bad as Americans try to make it.

Supposedly Lalah was working as an underage prostitute when Char met her, which implies that he was going to brothels that provide underage girls. But that's not really canon anyway since it's just from some side manga and the actual animated canon has Lalah working casinos with her newtype powers instead.

People just ignore the fact that he had a mature bombshell gf in CCA and look at his disinterest in Quess as evidence that he only likes the really young ones.
