***READ THE GUIDE***

*** THERE IS NO "GUNPLA GENERAL" DISCORD SERVER. IGNORE THE TRIPFAG THAT SAYS OTHERWISE. THERE IS ONLY A TEXT CHANNEL ON THE /m/ DISCORD: https://discord.gg/TGjVRAG ***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

Rules:
Pick any 1/144 or 1/100 kit from the Graze family (Pic Related), and paint and customize it. As far as customizing it, I'm going to place a limit on that. The limit is 50% additions to the kit.
To define 50%, look at it like this, you could take a Graze Ritter and replace the arms (including shoulders), legs, and backpack and I'd call that 50%. I'm not counting handheld bits in that. If you're unsure of something please ask in IRC, the thread, or email.

Start Date: 12/1/16
Due Date: 2/1/17
Submissions go to

Submission format
Please submit photos in jpg via a compressed file (zip, rar, or 7zip), please don't link images to imgur or photobucket or the like. Please also include some WIP photos of the kits being constructed/painted/etc as validation that it's your custom.

For the 00 GN condensers is there any subtle differences using clear paint on the inside as opposed to the outside?
>>
>>15084593
A good camera with the resolutions we have now, you'll be seeing every single tiny imperfection. It's absolute pain when you're a perfectionist or you see a ton of minor flaws everywhere you couldn't see with the naked eye.
>>
>>15084742

the outside will look better because the color will clearly go from edge to edge
>>
>>15084536
What method are you using?
>>
>>15084757
I'll be painting the outside since I think it will look more like the green light is coming from inside. I just wondered what if the color on the inside would look like. Like something like a fish bowl containing the color but I don't have any spare clear parts.

>>15084618

I don't think anyone can really agree on a color for Harrison Martin's F91. Some of the colored art for Crossbone shows it with an almost dark grey palette, and I've also seen it depicted as royal blue before. It's really iffy.

Question on modding: I'm modifying an HG Geirail, first time doing so. I'll also be adding the Scharfrichter parts once they're released.

The plan is to drill a couple of holes in the back armor and attach a pair of subarms through the holes into the sockets on the frame. One will be carrying the Railgun from IBO Parts set 9 (Iok's), that can also swivel down to carry it by hand, think like the Thunderbolt subarms.

The other subarm is to be static, holding a combination missile launcher/radome over the shoulder.

The head will be modified too, with a cluster camera eye like the Fordy from Cyberbots (pictured), or Dragonar-3.

Here's my questions:

- What subarm parts should I use for a 1/144 scale?

- What parts/materials would be good to use for the new eyepiece?

- Lastly, would I be better off just crafting a whole new backpack to hold up the whole assembly? If so, what model would fit the bill?

Thanks in advance.

No, you might make a profit if you are really good, but Gundam is not popular enough to make a living off selling well done models.

Geirail already has holes in the back, just don't use the back armor plate.

For Sub-Arms you could use the ones from the GM Cardigan/Powered Arms Powereder, although the latter has been out of stock from most places for a while unless you're fine paying $14 on amazon for an add-on kit that retails for $5.

As for the eyepiece that would have to be made from styrene tubing. Just get a small diameter (like 1-2mm) and cut it to the size you'd want, then glue to a small sheet of styrene in place of the old camera/lens

Something that is probably going to be my gbwc entry this year. A 1/100 kitbash of Graze Cutom and Cherudim Gundam. I'm just at the sort of concept stage right now playing around with the parts to see how it looks together (they're all just held on with sticky tac) and what will need modding to attach (Everything by the look of it at the moment). I'm liking how the two styles mix so far, though I'm on the fence about Cherudim's front skirts.

I'm also going to be adding Cherudims backpack and the graze bazooka's barrel is getting swapped with gattling barrels among little detail things I want to try out.

This should be a pretty fun build over the next six or so months.

-HGBC Battlearms, Skull Weapon, or Powered Arms Powerder.

-Bandai Option Parts MS Sight Lens

-Your plan is fine, or just leave the back armor part off entirely to expose the pre-existing holes.
>>
>>15085057
It's going to be one of those on and off projects so I don't get burned out on it. That's also why I'm starting early. I actually tried to do a graze custom build for GBWC last year but ended up running out of time before I finished and I wasn't satisfied with a lot on it anyways. I'm going to be trying to spruce up the frame a bit with some little bits of detail too. Naoki's IBO 1/100's are inspiring to look at if you actually look close to all the little changes he made to the frames.
>>
So my collection of gunpla is fairly small. Started with an HGUC RX-78 that I bought while on vacation in Japan, bought an HMM Liger Zero Schneider on a whim because it's my favorite Zoid. Currently finishing up the HGUC Unicorn Gundam I got for Christmas.

I'm fucking hooked. But I feel like my overall skills are lacking. When cutting out stuff from runners on my Unicorn, I've been using a cheap pair of wire cutters to remove parts, then trimming them down with an xacto knife, but even then, it's not exactly the cleanest. I'd like to make my models look as flawless as some of the ones I see in photographs, but I have no idea how people accomplish it.

Please share this arcane knowledge with me.

The basic ones will be sanding it in three steps start from the most coarse sandpaper. for me, it was 600-1000-1500 (using tamiya). After that, there'll be two ways:

1. If you're too lazy to paint, polish the part using orange and blue compound to clear the scratchmark, then apply some decals/stickers (if you want to), panel line, then top coat it using clear coat spray.

2. If you're in mood, paint it with spray or airbrush, your choiche.
>>
>>15085270
>orange and blue compound
that seems pretty unnecessary, using 1500 or a buffing stick removes most scratches plus a matte clear coat will hide imperfections too.

I can write plenty of reason to hate him, but to keep it short; An obnoxious, shitposting fucktard. Just ignore and report, and hope that some mod actually removes his dumb ass from here.
>>
>>15085569
Because he is trolling. Everyone here is free to do as they like and when it comes to gunpla no one NEEDS to conform to the "board's" idea of what is proper gunpla building or not.

Snapfit on the other hand just keeps doing everything humanly possible to go against what people see as proper gunpla building and does so not because it's his way of building, but more because he enjoys anoying people (it's the way he acts with his meme pictures and that he pretends he doesn't know what is going on). He is literally trolling people just for the sake of trolling.

And you should never feed a troll.
>>
>>15085569
A few years back, /gpg/ was overrun with shitposting in the form of imagedumps unrelated to Gunpla. Due to the lack of mod or janitor presence, this would lead to threads dying rather early because they would hit the bump limit from all the spam. Eventually the threads were cleaned up from the unrelated image dumps, but the image spamming continued on, this time with a handful of pictures with misleading filenames that would be reused every thread, or every time they got deleted. Afterwards, included within the image dumps were some pictures taken of snapfitted kits from G-Reco, which was the most recent animated Gundam series at the time. Occasionally included with the images would be posts, often obnoxious or of quality you would expect to find at /v/ or Reddit, and although people encouraged the poster to improve their pictures and builds they never did, even going so far as to encourage people not to learn or to attempt to learn -- this became a great cause of ire for many in the general, as the unstated but implied purpose of /gpg/ is to educate people with a basic level of knowledge and know-how regarding plamo. Later on, the poster would adopt a name and a tripcode. That is the early history behind all the drama today.

He likes to suck on Tomino's dick, to the point that every Gundam AU that isn't Correct Century or Regild Century is bad on principle, along with its suits.
>>
>>15085569
People who snapfit kits with little intention to do more than nub removal or even panel lining aren't bad. Almost everyone in the hobby started out at that level at some point.

Snapfit the tripfag however has said on multiple occasions that he has no intentions of improving anything he posts (Be it the kit itself or his photography), and has been shitposting in these threads constantly for almost 2 years
>Is almost certainly the misnamed imagespammer/spoiler spammer (Notice how the threads the Kuns make don't get spammed?)
>Has been proven to drop his trip on multiple occasions to reply to his own posts to make it look like people talk to him
>Does not like mecha outside of UC Gundam (except 0083 and Late UC), Turn A, G reco, and Armored Core (apparently he couldn't stomach more than 2 episodes of Evangelion or something)
>Is actually a /pol/+/tv/ cross-poster >Complains about every place that shuns him being a hugbox, yet made his own discord server after being banned from the one in the OP because he couldn't shut up about politics in a room for talking about Cantonese flip book robot commercials.
>Airbrush apparently seems like an okay guy and is open to more gundam/mecha series but is still shit due to association with Snapshit

tl;dr:
>Hide Snapshit-kun threads
>Ignore Snapshit-kun posts
>Do not reply to Snapshit-kun/people responding to Snapshit
>>
>>15085790
You would think he would be banned now.

Has anyone found out if he's a mod or not?
>>
How do I make clear parts look good? I've no experience with clear kits at all, but have an idea of how to build them to the point of weathering and such. Do I just leave it as it is or will spraying clear coat help at all? I mean, there won't be paint on those parts anyway.

If it matters, the kit's that red Delta.
>>
>>15085809
He's not a mod and it's due to the mods lack of interest in a slow board like /m/

If you want to know, /toy/ got rid of him not because he was banned from the board but because a janitor kept deleting his posts, which made Snapfit quit the board out of sheer frustration, calling it a "circlejerk".

Unfortunately those interested in being janitors are also uninterested in monitoring /m/ despite it being literally the easiest non-job in the world due to the board's inherent slowness.
>>
>Taking the bait

Talking about him only empowers him. Just post your plastic robots you walnuts.
>>
>>15085827
I apply every time there's jani opening but so far, no luck.

There's always next year though. You'll know when I get the janitor position cause he'll become a quiet memory.
>>

>>15085643
This is mainly the reason I stopped posting. I enjoyed the fun attitude of the thread, and helping new people and just talking about plastic robots, but it got overrun by the image spam and tripfags to the point I had more fun working on gunpla alone or with my gf.

Just a modern day, grey jet plane type aesthetic. Think the F-14, or the F/A-18 (that I'm honestly leaning towards). The original idea was "a ground to air mobile suit developed by Area 51 like the U2, or Black bird" but then just kind of devolved into "the Zeta+ but with US decals."

It all started because my gf wants to make the Portent, but with a more NASA aesthetic.

Sure other can steal your pict and claim them as theirs, but in the long run they can't pretend to be you and will inevitably suffer a backslash if people learn about it.

It's not like "piracy" where some artist lose money if someone who would have bought the art didn't because he got it freely

Get a rotating disc to stand your gunpla on while airbrushing. You'll be painting individual parts on gator clips most of the time, but when everything is built and you're just topcoating, it makes everything convenient.

Speaking of gator clips and skewers, just cut a bunch of cardboard into strips and duct tape them together to make a board to hold all of them.

I'm not willing to drop that much money for one single part, and no idea what to do with the rest. At any rate, as it's mostly for myself, I'm not gonna be totally accurate with that shoulder shield mount and just use one them Ballden Arms joints to make do.

It's probably P-Bandai, which is an exclusive item on bandai's website that doesn't ship to the us, leaving middlemen free to increase the price as they please. Normally they're just recolors or have a few differences in weapons or such of normal releases, but some bullshit has happened like the Altron.

They exist, anon. But they were a really limited production so they're pretty hard to find, and really low quality, so you'll have to put in some work to make it look not like crap.

I dreaded this thing for more than a year since I was sure it required lots of masking around round surfaces to pull off.
Not gonna lie, it didn't come as good as I intended, as the blue paint bleed a bit at the edges in the main body, but I guess it serves as practice.
Nevertheless, I'm pretty happy so far with how it is turning out, those red and gold turbines turned out pretty cool

Did you try to liquid mask it?

Liquid mask is a dangerous trap that seems like the perfect solution but only rarely is

The arms are average, the shoulder pads can get in the way though.

The head is more limited due to the collar, it only has maybe 70 degrees forward arc at most.

It has the weird rubbery arms that don't bend, is incredibly hard to pose with its wings out and has pretty annoying stickers, but it looks like the design, and looks pretty imposing with its fuckhuge wings so I'm pretty glad I got it.
It helps that the inhuman poses I can get the thing into actually fit it quite well.

There's another method. You will get the exact skin color out of it, but in exchange it's a lot more difficult to get an even surface.

You cut up sprue pieces and use Mr. Cement S (It's 100% solvent, no filler material) to melt the plastic. Then you apply thin layers and build up to the desired shape. Finally, sand till smooth.

If you go with this method, DO NOT just throw a blob down. The evaporated solvent needs some place to go. Thick layers will contain bubbles that will be absurdly difficult to deal with.

Ah, the Razorconcepts set. I've been eyeing that up for a few months now. Is it easy to work with? I assume you have more pieces to put on, as there's nothing on the shoulders. Did you get the thruster set as well as the head?

shit is expensive, the textures are crap aside from the head (the head, gun, butt thrusters and knees are all made of different materials). It's ultra fragile too.

Yeah I have the shoulders, but they'll break if you mess with them too much, one already broke taking it off, so I'm going to leave them off until I paint them .

That being said, its better than I could scratch build and I've always wanted a Leo. The details are amazing though. Especially the gun and the head, hopefully some chink will mass produce a resign kit.
