Which is an interesting concept but Mika is bland as fuck so it's wasted on him.

This mikazuki thing is actually starting to get depressing. At first the edgy killer thing was dull and felt like they were setting him up for a hackneyed "oh the milk of human kindness has changed me" setup in S1, but they didn't, and now he's just grinding himself down into a pile of pulp because he's broken as fuck.

I think this episode was the tipping point for me. Before this I've been thinking the show is sort of mediocre. Not a "bad" show, just a lot of wasted opportunities.

But this fucking episode was so offensively bad that I'm tired of forgiving it. It has had many chances to redeem itself and it has fucked up everyone one of those chances. This show is the worst show this season.

The Mika/Kudelia/Atra relationship is probably one of the worst parts of the show, if not the worst. It's literally pointless. Mika basically has autism, Atra has relegated herself to just hoping she can be a mistress, and Kudelia is attracted to him for no conceivable reason. It makes the Heero/Relena relationship look like a masterwork of subtlety and human affection.

Also this is getting so repetitive. NOBODY has a chance to shine. It's all Mika all the time. If you think about it, the reason people thought this season was so markedly improved was because for a large part of it Mika WAS NOT THERE. You could replace him with any other member of the cast and it would be a better show.

People have been chasing uc as a template for years now. Some managed to achieve p. Gud levels of replication while expanding upon the ideas of the uc universe(x is probably the best example), while others are restricted by the uc legacy instead (wing was a bunch of execs taking a look at g and saying "this can't be the face of gundam but we do want things to b cray cray", and what we got was nsync/backstreet boys trying to be the zeon assault squad in 0080). The point is, they either come across as clear ripoffs (looking at you seed) or just...bad. it's pretty telling when the best non-uc gundam shows post CCA are either completely non-uc (g, build fighters, turn a) or ovas. You could make the argument that 00 was p. Gud but honestly that show was more fmp (third party small strike force working behind the scenes with absurd levels of tech advantage, gee I wonder where you got that idea author of fmp) than gundam.

Ibo is the best rendition of the themes of uc outside of it. Yes it loses focus at times to portray characters over moral quandaries, yes I agree that this show will probably never have its space opera moment on the level of char speaking to the ef general assembly, but it's still wildly entertaining while retaining the core assets that made uc what it was (while discarding much of the tomino baggage). At this point I'd put down Ibo as the 2nd best TV series gundam-ass-gundam show after unicorn (because even in a neutered TV adaptation form unicorn is more or less inscrutable), and respectable even taking into account the collosal body of ova/movies/spin-offs/"<insert trope here> but with gundam" works in the gundam universe.

Yeah I was the same. At the beginning I had a hard time emphasizing with CB because they were just too plain OP to be exciting.

But as the show went on my opinion turned around as they kept raising the stakes and you could tell that CB was way over their heads and actually the underdogs. The finale in s1 really helped to sell it all as they had the balls to kill off one meister and half the supporting crew.

Contrary in IBO we are told that poor poor Tekaddan has it rough, how they are underdogs and how they struggle to win with their little power yet in every single encounter we've seen thus far they won with relative ease. They only conflict they lost was the Earth branch arc earlier this season otherwise all through S1 they blazed through everything thrown at them.

I love the sound effects and general sensational feel of the action in IBO. The crashing and clanging of heavy metal objects has such a distinct feel to it. It really gives the impression of the size and momentum that mobile suits possess. Watching mechs smash the shit out of each other with blunt objects has never felt more satisfying. It's a refreshing aesthetic departure that feels more gritty and desperate than typical "clean" action involving beam weapons and other more "hi-tech" designs, and it makes the protagonists' struggle feel more scrappy and homegrown.

00, Age, G-Reco and IBO are all shit, to different degrees. I will add that Unicorn is also shit, but is more entertaining than the previous listed ones primarily because of a larger budget. If I were being frank, all mecha anime released in the past 6 years have been shit on the whole.

All gundam series have very flawed writing, to put it nicely, and this is a fact that I don't think anyone can deny. It was only more acceptable earlier on because the medium was still relatively young.

It's sad but all gundam really comes down to now is how good are the mech designs, and how much of a budget does the team have to animate them in a competent manner, so as to maximize model kit sales.

To be precise, anime in general are for the most narratively bad. Even the so-called masterpieces are often flawed with stupid things. They are products for children or young adults, so this is quite normal.

I don't think any new Gundam series are necessary. I stopped buying gunpla in 2013 but a quick glance at the MG/PG line shows that G-Reco and IBO haven't even been tapped into that much.

I wouldn't mind several part high quality OVAS with 4-6 month span between them for UC sidestories like Hathaway's Flash.

Mika basically just went berserk against the Hashmal with no disregard to himself, Barbatos, or anything else. Just pure, straightforward destruction. McGillis basically realized that he should be doing that instead of his usual trickery and scheming if he wants to reform Gjallarhorn.
