***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

Sorry for the random OP image I just wanted to make a new thread before leaving

I didn't like IBO stuff at first but it kinda grew on me, the exposed waist on everything is kinda a like it/hate it situation with no inbetween though

Should be fine. Gelgoog guy has been hosting it for several years now and there has only been a few grinches, all of whom were added to his blacklist for next year.

The Graze is perfect for a themed groupbuild

>Really basic frame for the Grazes (Barring Ein) that can be used to just strap shit to and it'd look fine
>Variety to choose from if you want different aesthetics (Want less curves? Go with the Graze Kai. Want more curves? Go with the Graze Ritter Want more thicc? Go with the Regingraze )
>Inexpensive kits since they all reuse the same inner frame so you can buy two and kitbash them easily

A groupbuild focused around a common kit a perfectly fine thing to do. Heck, our last groupbuild's second placer was a Graze.
>>

>>
>>14954254
I like the whole interchangeable aspect but most of the gundam frames look really fragile and skeletal, they look like they have vulnerable uncovered parts and the only thing upgrades have done are add armor everywhere else or give the suit high heels. The lack of ab armor in an upgrade is kind of dumb
>>
Guys is that cheap panel lining method(AKA by pencil dust) worth a shot?
And also I'm fine for now with sprays+hand painting so should I try to buy airbrush anyway?

Also funny thing is, I spend so much on sprays that I would buy a REALLY good airbrush by now. So how are costs of paints when using airbrush compared to using sprays? Sb has enough knowledge for that?
>>
>>14954310
But I like seeing exposed hydraulics. It makes the Gundam frames look more industrial and mechanical.
>>
How do you structure your builds? Do you disassemble and denub/sand every part then paint every part at the same time? Or do you prefer to build in sections (legs, then arms, etc)?

I've been doing it by section lately and I feel like it goes slower but my work is higher quality. It also feels like doing 5 seperate small models rather than one huge one.
>>
>>14954310
>>14954320

Its really dumb that everything gets armored, or goofier looking high heels, but that stupid midsection is left exposed. I know what I'd aim at if I was fighting one of these goofball things.

Also kudos to the guy who made a White Glint Graze. Armored Core is where most of these designs belong anyway.

Finally, I'd play devils advocate here and do the zeek one. At least you get more variety with the designs, deployment, equipment, pilots, etc rather than everyone building a thing with high heels and a M4

>>
>>14954320
They don't look very industrial, if they were there wouldn't be any flashy colors or even a humanoid design. Your dream Gundam is the power loader from Aliens
>>
>>14954317
A mechanical pencil works well enough for a snap build, but if you're painting, you really should be doing a panel wash.

Airbrush is a good investment if you want more control over your paint job, and if you're in it for the long haul. Paint jars generally cost < $5, and you'll shoud get at least a few HGs out of a jar
>>
>>14954180
Removing safety flags and sharpening up edges requires only your nippers and sanding sticks
>>

There are curved lines on the side that can't really be seen in this pic and two small parts on the edges of the helmet, but I'm still trying to decide. The head is the riskiest thing to mess with imo so I'm trying to save it for last

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Kd4-up_Y5Y&index=16&list=PLC1672C46F266F336&t=8s

That channel in general is helpful.

Learn to assemble and disassemble your airbrush before spraying so you can be sure you have everything in mind, like if you accidentally didn't push your needle far enough for example.

Don't thin your paint in the cup, do it in a paint bottle and pour that into the cup. You can use disposable pipettes which are cheap to get basically exact ratios.

Do you know what a panel wash is? It's necessary to do one after painting to fill in panel lines, markers won't work well on top of paint.

after airbrushing Tamiya for over a decade and now trying Vallejo, I can safely say fuck tamiya. Vallejo is so much better for color selection. It also seems tougher to me, somehow.

>>
>>14954719
Should I really care when there's much better choices like Canada or The Moonland itself?
>>
>>14954725
It can never hurt to prime regardless of the part, it'll only help to have more surface adhesion and make the paintjob tougher. You prime based on the colors you plan to use, white for lighter colors, grey form medium, etc. You can also do weird stuff like priming light and putting dark paint on, it's worth testing on scrap parts or spoons.
>>
>>14954729

>>
>>14954745

>>
>>14954736
theres a lot of information to take in. This was what always put me off to painting. But I guess you just have to take the jump and keep on practicing.
So for example:
Prime the Alex's blue parts with gray
mix my lacquer up with mr.leveling thinner. a nice ratio. (1:2?)
Pour into my airbursh
keep the brush moving at all times, nice even coats. (2-3)
let it dry 12+ hours
panel line with paint and thin brush
any decals
top coat of my choice?

not tryna be spoonfed, just being cautious.
>>
>>14954732
>canada
>better

It's a shithole, but be my guest.
>>
>>14954781
at least it's better than the country that held whatever the 2016 elections were supposed to be, though
>>
>>14954760
Generally you will want to go:
Prime->Thin/mix paints->Put in cup and paint (brush should be moving, don't hover in one spot)->Waiting sufficient time depending on the paint used->Gloss coat before details such as panel lines and decals->details->top coat.

Things to keep in mind:
>Will the paint layers interact well or eat each other.
>Where do I store the parts when waiting (styrofoam blocks or cardboard work great to put alligator clips in)
>Weather

When spraying be sure to not start the paint on top of the part, start slightly away and lead the brush in, or else you get a blotch of paint where you started.

WEAR A DAMN RESPIRATOR, FUMES ARE TOXIC.

Otherwise, practice makes perfect, all the facts will never be as useful as you figuring it out yourself. Don't worry, I was in the same boat a bit ago, only started weeks ago but I'm now halfway done with an initial build and know that my layers all work together thanks to spoon testing.
>>
>>14954760
>let it dry 12+ hours
>panel line with paint and thin brush

>panel line with paint and thin brush
any decals
>panel line with paint and thin brush
any decals

>any decals
>top coat of my choice?

You're gonna want to put in gloss coats in between these steps for both protection and to create a smooth surface for the panel line washes and decals. Also you can add Mr. Retarder to the paint steps to help level it out even more. Otherwise this looks good.

the RG Sinanju looks pretty good, however, 2 glaring issues curse its beauty:
- the waist is connected by a tiny ass peg that can barely hold the whole thing together, more
often than not, the torso will separate very easily

- while the shield looks great, it is simply too heavy for the arm, making it unwieldy for the kit

I actually presume the Refined Barzam is more popular...but Bandai may be testing the waters to see if its worth putting into full production with the Barzam.

So if you want to see a Refined Barzam, buy at least one normal HG Barzam, I guess.
I am guessing that if sales are good, we may see a P-Bandai Refined Barzam using a bunch of the Titans Gundam Mk2 runners, or if sales are great, we may see a full release of the Refined Barzam as an independent model.

I finished this horrible 1/60 Ingram from the early 90s.
- Did lots of modifications to the proportions.
- Rebuilt the inner thighs to be separated from the outer thighs in the proper location.
- Drilled/scraped out holes for the shoulders, chest, feet, and revolver.
- For whatever the bits on the ankles and thighs with holes in them are called, I cut off the ones on the normal kit and replaced them with better ones made from 1mm pla-plate.
- Gave it the gray fabric around back of neck.

How bad does it look, anons?

>>
>>14956392
Use decal setting solutions when you apply decals.

There are 2 that I use that work great: Micro Sol and Micro Set. You should be able to get them in hobby shops or online. They make decals able to wrap around different surface shapes and make the decals look very smooth on the surface of the model once they have completely dried.
>>
>>14956392
Look it up on YouTube. Get yourself either Mr. Mark Setter/Mr. Mark Softer or Microset/Microsol. It's super easy to do.

Cover the area in gloss varnish. Cut out the piece you want. Soak it in a small dish of water. Use tweezers to pick it up and dab the back on a paper towel. Place some Mark Setter where you want the decal. Use a hobby knife to slide the decal off the paper on to where you want it. Push it around on the edges until it looks good. Use a q-tip or edge of a paper towel to absorb most of the liquid. Readjust as necessary. When it dries, apply Mark Softer. This will literally melt the decal, so don't apply a ton. Paint it on and absorb any extra with a napkin. Leave this to sit and DO NOT TOUCH IT YOU WILL FUCK IT UP. Once it has an hour or so to dry and set, you should be looking at a nice decal. Apply another coat of gloss varnish to seal it in and make it blend with the background.

The way the camo is painted has too many staight lines, it'll look more like good camo patterns if the lines taper to be bigger or smaller on one end, some more wavy shapes could also help.

The edges of the shapes are a bit too rough, painting a machine that huge even with brushes or paint rollers would probably create cleaner edges to each color.

From those pictures the overall color schemes look a bit too contrasting and toyish, a bit of drybrushing and washing with various browns, beiges, grays and/or blacks would make the colors blend together a bit and look more realistic.
Make things look more faded.

Marasai looks good tho
Could just use a bit more weathering

I'm making a RX-78-2 HG gunpla (my 2nd ever gunpla that i owned) and saw that the A1 and A3 parts looks weird (i know this is for the head part but hear me out)

●Why do i need to put two silver stickers on the A3 piece if its gonna be covered by the A1 piece?

●Why is the A1 well...different? I mean its the visors i know but why does it look like yellow see-through? Wouldnt it be covered anyways by the sticker?

It's two different options for doing the eyes. That's why the dotted line and the icon in the corner. Your options are thus:

A: Stick on the silver stickers and then paint in the black around the eyes. Light will come through the plastic and hit the reflective silver to make them look like they're glowing.

B: Just put the printed sticker on there and not paint anything.

Did you not read Blue Destiny? Suits equipped with the EXAM System have an frustrating tendency to go berserk, kill everything in sight, then kill their pilots.
>>
>>14956922
>making a giant weapon that the pilot can lose complete control of

Fucking incredible.

Outside of a few Wing VHS tapes, 0079 is my only experience with Gundam. I've got Zeta queued up for when I have the time though.
>>
>>14956927
>making a giant weapon that the pilot can lose complete control of
comes with the territory when you put a soul in a can and stick it in your robot
>>
>>14956922
Thats because its powered by the angry souls of dead newtypes
>>
>>14956929
>>14956931
Did the Zeon design something that necessitated mechromancy to combat their strength, or is the entire premise just soul magic?

The scientist in charge used a machine that trapped the soul of a newtype girl into a device, which was then installed in the Blue Destiny and the Efreet Custom. The system gives any pilot within the machines newtype abilities, but the soul of the girl rebels and tries to break free, hence the berserk state. The scientist in charge doesn't care about who uses it or the casualties involved, so long as the technology works.
>>
>>14956943
Newtype space magic, man. Dont gotta explain shit
>>
>>14956949
I'd rather not. Zaku II 2.0 is already one of the definitive MG kits, there's a chance they'll do what they did with 78-2 3.0 and just make the RG inflated, and nobody wants that.

Ok so quick and shitty height comparison, but I'm 99% sure that HG helmwige Linker's(or whatsisname) sword will be taller than Astaroth's.
In other words: FUCKING FUCK huge. And I heard this will only cost 1,200 yen... No it fucking won't, I think it will be 1600-2000 yen or this monster of a sword will be in weapon's pack.

Anyway about this comparison, keep in mind that Valkyrie frame is about half a head shorter than Gundam frame.
>>
>>14956953
I don't think we'll get MG IBO for a long while given that the 1/100 are essentially MGs themselves, and if we look at 00, which was the last one to pull 1/100 NGs, the Exia didn't get a kit until 2 years later.
As much as I don't want it to be, I'm expecting SEEDshit. Probably Strike Freedom 2.0

About to start my second build. Kind of want to do more than just a snap build this time - anyone have a decent first step for a near-absolute beginner? Did Bandai shut B-club down?

B-club used to be Bandai's resin kit department, making resin parts for gunpla and some entire resin its, from 1/220 scale to 1/100, since the 80s. There has not been any new B-club kits for about 5 years. The kits were super expensive and often got recast, and P-Bandai seems to be making stuff that B-club used to.

Premium Bandai had mercy on all the lazy niggers too incompetent to paint their own kits and will be releasing an MS-04 in its prototype colors.

It's got a lot of neat gimmicks, really good surface detail, no real need to paint, except for the knee (though I painted the whole thing cause I do with that wit)

It's also just a unique build. I've built mg's for so long that they can get repetitive, but there's just a lot of clever engineering in this thing that are unique to the kit. It's pretty poseable considering it can pull off the "split into funnels" thing.

Put your tools in an empty gunpla box and bring your desired kit in its box along for the ride. Cut off nubs into the kit's box, dump into a plastic baggie/trash afterwards. It's not hard to build in the box, even if it's just sitting in your lap.

How do my panel lines look? Serviceable? I had a bit of trouble trying to get them clean and even without putting it on thick, and I'm sure they still could have gone on better. I wasn't too sure what to actually panel line either, but maybe that's just the kit not needing much lining. One other thing I noticed was that open areas, like the tiny vents on the sides of his head, or around the bottom of his shin, wouldn't really hold ink. Trying to clean it up usually resulted in the entire line smearing, so are those spots that don't really need to be lined, or do I just need to wait for the ink to dry before touching it up?

Also, do the other Burning Gundams have better arm joints? I love his design, but those joints suck out all the fun of posing him.
>>

No don't do this. A matte coat makes the surface bumpy, so panel line washes don't flow as well. Use a gloss coat for that. Final topcoat can be matte or gloss though, whichever you want.

matt for the VERY LAST coat, gloss for anything inbetween
